2006-04-21 Thread Bill Vander Werf

I've been following this thread for a while now.
I'm very happy for you guys who are "happily" married for 25 - 30 years. I used
to be one. If you and your mate are best friends it's a wonderful thing. Some of
you will make it to forevermore power to you.I'm not trying to be a
wet blanket here but some won't.

I was married to the girl I believed was my soul
mate for 28 years. We worked together, played together and always supported each
others different interests and goals. We owned our house. Our three kids were
grown. We had property bought in the area we were going to retire. I believed we
had the magic everyone strived for.

I was 50 and she was in her "dreaded" mid-40s.
Whamshe developed an itch I could no longer scratch. According to her, I had
stolen her youth and she would have accomplished much more if she hadn't got
married so young and been tied down to me for most of her life. Some of you have
heard the same thing and got past it. Some will hear it and won't. My wife
couldn't get past it. I was devastated.

Moral of the story:

Live every day like it's your last. Step outside
your comfort zone once in a while. Sometimes catastrophic change in your life is
the best thing that could ever happen to you.Remember, the only guarantee
in life besides death and taxes is change.

I've been divorced for about a year now and life is
better than it ever wasI never would have believed it.

(chevelle content) I still have my 71 and my
sanity.

Like Bill, I have very mixed emotions about thedirection this thread has taken. I lost my wife of 41 years about 2 1/2 years ago to sudden heart failure. We were soul mates and very much more. Was devastating and I checked out of life for some time. I have since remarried - one year anniv coming up in May. Mostly a survival thing. Mary understood and now Lou is beginning to understand the need for meto twist wrench's on the Chevelle. Since I'm retired, I pretty much pick and choose what I want to accomplish any given day or week. Made 5 church mission trips (feeding unit) to New Orleans and the Mississippi gulf coast (Mary was from MS). Scheduled to go again soon.

I've had
both cars since before we were married (13 years now), and I bought the Chevelle
just after we met (16 years ago). Luckily Charlotte likes cars, likes road
trips, and likes the "car smell" so I get no complaints after working on
them. Charlotte and Carol got along really well when they met years ago
back when they were in Arizona, so I knew Carol was a keeper
too.
I think
Charlotte knew what she was getting into, when I showed up for our first date in
my buddy's '70 1/2 Z28 with 4 point harnesses and deep bucket seats. If
she did not run away then, you know she had to be OK with all my
cars!

Hi
Larry,

The move is good in
a couple of ways. First, I'll be getting into a bigger garage, and second,
my new job will be interesting and a great experience for me. The bad side
is we'll still be living in a cold area, we were hoping for something further
south. Oh well, maybe next time.

It's about a 6.5 hour drive from our current location. You can put money on
it that'll I'll be getting a house with at least a 3 car garage!

The unit I'm going to is a Marine Safety Unit. Huntington has a rather
large port with a lot of barges transiting the Ohio river. Proctor Gamble
is right there on the river bank too and because they're within so many feet
of navigable water, they fall under CG jurisdiction.

is

very nice down there and the houses are reasonably priced.

Actually my question to Herbshould of been " Is the move a good or
bad move?" I'm sure from what I have heard that Herb has a fine Lady. I too
happen to be one of the lucky guys with a top notch mate. Just celebrated our 33
year of bliss (Boy time goes by fast - Seems like just yesterday we tied the
knot- Wish it was -I'd get it annulled - JUST KIDDING!)
