From what I've been learning, limiting food intake for the tinies is pretty much a recipe for hypoglycemia and disaster. Besides, limiting food won't mean you have a petite dog, just a skinny malnourished one. As for predicting puppy weights. I have a toy dog here (not chi) who was called "heifer" by her breeder because she was the biggest puppy in the litter. Guess what her nickname is here? "Short Round" because she ended up on the small side, lol. At some point, her littermates kept growing and she stopped. Just goes to show, you never can tell! Re: [Chihuahuas] Re: Katie...Size..Susan
I finally found the web site! Yay, because I have looked for it before when something came up in the group that reminded me of this place. I don't even really like posting the name of this place to give her more advertisement, but it seems she could really use a few nicely worded polite emails so she updates some of her misinformation. To me, limiting the amount of food a chi gets to keep it a "teacup"? is downright dangerous. I,also, don't like that on the FAQ page for hypoglycemia she has about 3 words for her answer. If she is breeding "teacups", her answer should be about a page long. Then there is the purebred chis can't be over 6 pounds comment. On her front page she claims 50some years of chi experience, which is not good, because people may tend to believe things they read here. i thought about the very slim chance she could be in the group when I decided to post this and decided if she is unhappy with me it is worth it if she changes some of this info. Here is an excerpt from the FAQ page: How much will my puppy weight fully grown? Purebred Chihuahuas never weigh more then six pounds fully grown. However, a lot depends on the way you feed your new puppy. It is important to feed your pup twice a day and monitor his or her weight. At V.I.P Chihuahuas we focus on breeding Teacups which are the smallest of the Chihuahua breed. Never feed table food. I know my size depends on how much you feed me! lol Hehehehe, that was a good one, Susan.=) (me ,too, sadly) Now I have to find that web site!! It is somewhere buried in my million saved places. I can't figure out why the breeder would say the things she said either. I think she may have been a "teacup" breeder and that you're right that she says things to cover herself when the pups get bigger than promised. That bad thing is she comes off as a very experienced breeder, so I am sure some people would believe some of the misinformation on her site. katie " Lets talk about our wonderful little friends! I know my size depends on how much you feed me! lol Was this also the site that warns your female may get bigger when you spay? I think it was one of those sites that is all about "teacups" (yes, I know...no such thing) and it felt like the comments were designed as a loophole. That way, when the puppy turns out to be a normal size, well, you overfed it or you had it spayed or whatever. I will say as a newbie to the breed, I've seen some awesome breeders with awesome info and I've seen some who could outdo P.T. Barnum! Susan " Lets talk about our wonderful little friends!
