Re: [CinCV] Crashing from MP3 music

2010-06-02 Thread Douglas Pollard
Hermann, I used up a lot of time trying to fix the problem. I finally
deleted the session and tried again, Cinelerra was still crashing on
start up. I had loaded Cinecutie just to see what it is all about. I
don't know what other problems it may have but it doesn't crash when you
load a corrupted file so i am doing the vidio in it. It won't run the
corrupted files. It is a shame they seem to be trying to fork off into
another program they seem to have made an improvement that might have
been nice in Cinelerra. Of course that assumes it would fit in with
Cinelerra's future plans.
I reinstalled Cinelerra and it starts and runs but I am not using
iton this vidio. I had all the vidio clips on the hard drive so I put
them on the time-line and now am very near finished with the video after
editing and adding new wav sound files.
I learned a lesson here. It took about 30 minutes to reinstall
Cinelerra and would have taken only a couple hours to reload files. I
wasted a whole day trying to fix the problem. I won't do that again
with my present Linux knowledge I will reinstall and go back to work.
The good news in all this is I have learned some things in trying to fix
the problem.
I have saved the corrupted mp3 files and when I finish this vidio I
will use them to try and crash Cinelerra again. I also saved yours and
the other the replies to my post. Then I will see if I can fix the
problem when I have more time.

Hi Doug,

besides what Johannes already wrote, maybe this also helps to clarify what is
going on: what do you mean with "start up" and "automatically loading"? how do
you exactly start Cinelerra?
Do you:
- just start the program, and then through the menu open your session?
- start it from the commandline and immediately specify the session file?

Moreover, what happened usually, when all worked correct? did you first
get an empty window and then had to select and open your session, or did
it immediately open your session?

Cheers,
Hermann

Doug,

first thing to try: Rename the direct .bcast in your home directory. If
cinelerra starts after this, the installation is not broken. (Do not do any
work now.)

Now close cinelerra again and remove the .bcast that it created (if any).
Rename your earlier backup back to .bcast.

In this directory, you find a backup.xml. This is the file you load with
File->Load. You can edit it with a text editor. *I* would convert all mp3
files to wav, and then edit all references to mp3 files to the corresponding
wav file in backup.xml. There's no guarantee that the result is equivalent to
the original, but it's worth a try. You can keep a backup of backup.xml to
have something from which you can start over again.

HI Herman, and thanks for the help. I'm sorry, I guess I misspoke She
crashes on start up when automatically loading. The Mp3 file is
corrupted and I don't know how to keep it from loading so it crashes. I
guess this is the problem assuming that Cinelerra itself is not
corrupted?? I can't start a new session so I can't use the saved files.
I have Cinecutie on the machine and have started working in it. So I am
getting something done. I posted here in the hope someone could tell me
how to keep from reinstalling Cinelerra. I am not knowledgeable enough
to know how to solve this problem.

Hi Doug,

...but when you just load the current version of your project, it doesn't crash?
And why are you trying to load the backup? does it contain significant work that
isn't present in the last saved version of your project file?

to reinstall anything. We just have to narrow down out what is causing

Re: [CinCV] Crashing from MP3 music

2010-05-31 Thread Ron Sparks
Doug,
Good to hear that other conversions work fine.
I haven't tried any other mp3s lately, but I seem to recall I have used mp3s
from CD rips in the past without any problems.

I didn't have to reinstall cinelerra, however it did check and run update from
packman ( using openSuse 11.2), but I don't think it changed any of the
programs or codecs.

All I did was remove the mp3s from the project files list in the Resources
window, then load the wavs as new resources.

hth,
Ron

Ron, I went in and deleted all the files in the Bcast folder to try and
get rid of the problem. Cinelerra is still crashing. I guess I would
need to delete and reinstall cinelerra to stop it. I also have
Cinecutie. It won't play the MP3 file but it does not crash when they
are loaded. I converted my MP3 files to .ogg files and they work but
wav would be better as they will play almost anyplace and I don't know
about .ogg Thanks, Doug Ps. I used sound converter worked fine.

I found that if I convert the mp3 files to wav files with Winff ( any

I was just getting ready to render the files out. I will post if there is any
problem with the output.
