Passed CSIDSPM Exam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! [7:36306]

2002-02-23 Thread Godswill HO

Am very grateful to you all. The group really helped me through out my CSS1
exam track. It has been a big learn place where knowledge is shared.I sat and
passed the Cisco Secure Intrusion Detection Systems with Policy
Manager(CSIDSPM) version 2.1 exam today to complete the CSS1(Cisco Security
Specialist 1) track.

It was a beast of an exam, totally different from the first three. It was a
tough battle but It is all over, thanks once more.

You might think CCIE would be the next, no not at all, next in the list is
CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional) or CCSA
(Checkpoint Certified Security Administrator). I will be grateful if someone
who have taken the CCSA exam help me with the best book/study materials to
use. I can only locate materials for the CCSA CP 2000 exam, but I want to
take
the CCSA NG exam which is the latest version. Any help would be appreciated.

Enjoy.

2002-02-23 Thread Brian

to me b and d are out of the running because they are looking to prevent
people from modifying data, thats an application issue. So youre left
with a and c. A seems to be a problem best solved by putting the info on
separate drives or devices, so I vote c. A case could be made for a
however, if you say put the data on separate devices then use the firewall
to permit some access and prevent others. I'm stickin with c.

Re: Please help me answer this question [7:36295]

2002-02-23 Thread Godswill Oletu

The catch in that question is the word 'Simple' For you to implement option
A, you must have a Firewall system having at least three
interface(inside, outside, dmz) so that you can utilize the DMS concept and
put the public marketing data (The word 'Public' is another word for dmz-The
3rd interface, where public data in a good Security design should be kept)
there and put the proprietary sales figures in your inside (Private)
network. That is the only way the firewall can help control access to these
two set of data.

For option C, a Firewall with just two interface(inside and outside) or even
a Cisco Router with Cisco Firewall IOS will do the job, just implement CBAC
or a websense Server to filter out the unwanted site.

Again more configurations would be needed to achieve the goal stipulated in
option A, at least you would configure the dmz interface parameters, etc;
while one or just two lines of command would accomplish the goal in option
C.

So it is obvious that from hardward and software point of view, option C is
the more 'simple firewall' aproach for any one.

Enjoy

Re: Q on FR spoke configuration. [7:36293]

2002-02-23 Thread Tshon

The answer is A or B... if you have just one pvc coming in from the
switch, and inverse-arp running
you don't have to do anything on the spoke. B would work fine if
inverse-arp is working.
A would take care of everything and leave nothing to chance. (all
considering one pvc coming into the spoke)

you might need to use licensed spectrum for this kind of an application.

consider that with unlicensed, anyone can use it, and you run the risk of
interfering with someone else's stuff, and you run the risk of them
interfering with your stuff. not to mention the security considerations.

Call the folks at NAS wireless www.naswireless.com they would love to talk

Re: cipt [7:36148]

2002-02-23 Thread Chuck

I'm taking the Knowledgenet CIPT class currently. The instructor claims
among other things to be involved with the people at Cisco who do the actual
test writing. No he does not give us inside information. But as we cover the
materials, he will point out areas where the book is a bit thin, and add a
couple of points to consider. he also says this is another typical Cisco
test with poorly written questions.

CIPT is essentially configuring Call Manager. So hands on would be quite
helpful. I have not taken the test, but I am guessing that there would be
questions which require you knowing the menus. Certainly there would be
questions about sequence of set up, and the various features such as route
patterns, media resources, templates, route plans, patterns and masks,
partitions, yada yada

my impression is that lab practice is a definite plus here

Also, the instructor did mention that Cisco is revamping the CIPT test, and
lowering the passing score. I don't recall if he gave a number or not. His
advice to us was to make sure we got the new test, not the old one.

not meaning to plug knowledgenet in particular, but one of the fringe
benefits I have is access to a real call manager server for study purposes.
The neat thing is that this is a web class, and access to the labs is web
based. So I can study at odd hours of the day and night as time permits.

I can block it at home, unfortunately he's got an e-mail address that I use

They don't understand that my part in receiving an e-mail is fairly passive.
:-)
If they were clever enough to understand they wouldn't be working where they
are.

Admin bods with no sense of humo(u)r please send all flames to this address,
I can block this one. :-)

My conversations with Verizon continue.

John,

PPPoFR solution is to maintain leased line PPP end to end over SP's FR
backbone..Following is the sample topology :

CPE--PPP/LL--SP--FR+PPP--SP--PPP/LL--CPE

But later started using in Broadband environment with following topology
:

CPE--PPPoFR/xDSL--DSLAM--PPPoFR--SP--PPPoFR--ISP/Wholesale provider

But now you will find PPPoE, oEoA, oA & oEoVLAN, as you can see several
L2 tech. is used but the goal is to maintain PPP end-to-end due to its
feature for AAA purpose..

thanks,
rahul.

2002-02-23 Thread Priscilla Oppenheimer

It sounds like you're trying to pass the CID test. You should have signed
an NDA that says that you won't disclose questions on the test.

This is one of those questions that you can most easily answer if you have
read the CID course materials. The Cisco Press book edited by Birkner won't
help because for some reason he left out the security chapter when he
ported the CID course to book format. (I think Cisco was thinking about
removing security from CID at the time, but never synced up with the test
writers on this.) Other CID books might help though.

Thom,
I had to pay out of own pocket too. I was very nervous! I couldn't afford
to fail. My advice is to schedule the test for the afternoon, get up early,
take a short walk to clear your mind; have a good breakfest and then briefly
review some study notes. Try to relax. :-)

For the CCSA CP 2000 exam, the manuals were more than sufficient (assuming
you have an adequate grasp of "open" security technologies).

I personally can't stand programs that promote nothing
more than meaningless paper certifications with no
real-world value. But you'll be surprised how many
people actually take out $10K + loans and buy into
this rat race. So on one hand, the IT community has given
its blessing towards certifications. On the other hand,
we have investors that are just waiting for the next
"Certified Training & Education Center" to fund because
the revenue is much better than their shares at Wall Street.
Since its a free country, my own conclusion echoes

Hi Oletu,

I'm not sure that any vendor has managed to stay ahead of checkpoint when it
comes to releasing the pertinent technical information for any given

so, you might be able to work with your sales rep to obtain beta support

Re: PPP over Frame Relay [7:36300]

2002-02-23 Thread nrf

The real purpose is just to make life more complicated.

Seriously, I cannot even think of a single reason why I would ever want to
use PPPoFR in real life.

RE: How does repeater work? [7:36323]

2002-02-23 Thread McIntosh, Leslie (US - Tulsa)

Good question,

I always think of a repeater as a 2port hub (what comes down one wire is
repeated down the other). I took a moment to look it up and a repeater can
also act as a transceiver, but only in the idea of changing media types -
i.e. CAT5 to Fiber for linking buildings. A repeater cannot join dissimilar
networks i.e. token ring and Ethernet (learned something new). That is the
short version. FYI - I found this information in my Microsoft Press -
Encyclopedia of Networking.

Thank You,

Subject: How does repeater work? [7:36323]

Could anybody tell me how repeaters work ? I don't understand how repeater
can regenerate
the two-way signals from both segment connected to the repeater. Isn't it
forming a loop?
Pls forgive me asking the stupid question.

Thanks in advance.
