Re: Good amazon deal-Thanks!

2000-12-28 Thread Aderion Brewer

I would beg to differ and agree with Brian. The content doesn't match half
of what is on the market today for the CCIE study guides. In addition,
there is the errata that's still available by McGraw-Hill.
Combined with what one would consider 'perfect' studying material as one
should use while pursuing your CCIE, because one book doesn't prepare you
for every case, you cannot go wrong at this price. We've used it and it has
assisted three of our study members to pass the written CCIE exam. Please
give it a rest, there are no 'perfect' books that doesn't contain some
errors.

Booksamillion is one of the best online book resources for our study group
in Atlanta. They've been very responsive to our requests and gives
exceptional pricing that beats www.bookpool.com, www.amazon.com,
www.borders.com and www.bn.com. We've ordered as little as 10 to as much as
20+ books. They also let you setup a commercial acct. where none of the
other online sources will. If you go to www.addall.com they beat everyone
hands down, everytime! If you get the $5.00 discount card, you save even
more. Essentially, they're not too good to be true, they're
FAD...Functioning as Designed...to save US money!

The other person that recommended www.half.com appears to be a good resource
for used Cisco books and also allows you to resell those you're looking to
get rid of, for a 'free' listing. If sold, they require 15% of the sold
price, which is pennies, so if anyone has any 'actual' experience using them
as a source, we'd be interested in hearing about it. We're always
interested in passing on good info. to our members.

Happy ordering...BTW, we're not receiving one dime or cookie for this 'free'
advertisement...yet! :-))

RE: Companies requiring proof of previous salary

2000-10-08 Thread Aderion Brewer

S,
This is an improper request from companies requesting this of you. Legally,
they can only verify a 'range of salary' when they contact your employer for
references.

The best thing to say, especially if you don't know how to negotiate or
forge a pay stub :-)), is to let them know you would prefer if they check
with your company to verify your salary. State, that you know your salary
requirements are in-line with what the industry commands for your field
(because you've done your research). Then ask them what is the salary range
for the position you're applying for? SHUT UP and wait for them to answer.
(Remember the golden rule in negotiating any form of money transaction, "He
who speaks money 1st, looses") So never give up your bargaining position.
If they want you they'll tell you, if not move on! If the salary range is
lower than what you're currently making then you know you need to move on.

I'm a firm believer that everyone should ALWAYS give themselves a raise or
cost of living increase. Be prepared and know what you're worth before you
start looking for new opportunities, and decide for yourself and not let
them decide for you. Remember if you're good, there's always another offer
coming! If more people understand the rules of the game, then we're all apt
to win!

RE: BCRAN Exam Help

2000-08-10 Thread Aderion Brewer

I'm the President of a local study group here in Atlanta and we have chosen
to use book the by Thomas Thomas & Adam Quiggle, ISBN#0072124806 and have
found it to be the most thorough. They also include a FAQ following each
chapter, case studies and at least 20 Q&A for each chapter. They've also
broken down the very large chapters into more edible chunks, however, they
could have taken a suggestion from Cisco press and grouped some chapters
that were related, by Parts I, II, respectfully. McGraw Hill has done a
good job with this latest series of books for the NP track.

Although we normally use the Cisco Press books, the one that's currently
available by Catherine Paquet (Editor)(August 1999) ISBN#1578700914 is not
as detailed, namely as it relates to the Q&A. Following each of their
chapters, you're lucky if you get 3 to 4 questions, covering a lot of info.
It is the one which closely follows what they are teaching in the classes,
but mind you they are coming out with another 2nd edition in Oct.
Hopefully, they will have a CD like their CCNA Exam series, W. Odom book
had, to help in the cert. process to gauge your knowledge retention.

When you don't have the luxury of people taking the time to review books
before you decide which to purchase, go to Amazon or B&N and see what others
are saying about it 1st, read them all and make a judgement call. If you
don't think the book is all it's cut out to be, most bookstores, do have
return policies to take it back.

Hope this helps!

RE: BCRAN Exam Help > Can you recommend Book for BSCN?

2000-08-10 Thread Aderion Brewer

Thanks Tom, we gone through a lot of trial & error from the past two years
running MACG, and the content of the books are essential to making it happen
the 1st time, whenever possible.

The BSCN book we're targeting is BSCN: Building Scalable Cisco Networks
by Thomas M. 2Nd Thomas, Arjan Aelmans, Floris Houniet, Tan Nam-Kee, Thomas
M., II Thomas, ISBN: 0072124776, but the publisher keeps pushing the date
available up. Our distributor says, instead of Aug. it's now October. We
didn't want to hold up our NP sessions because none of the books we were
interested in were not available so we're studying for both the BCRAN and
BCMSN until we can make a solid decision. This also works out great to
better prepare you for the BSCN and CIT.

However, the other book, also in the publisher's dark hole, is Building
Scalable Cisco Networks (Cisco Career Certifications) by Diane Teare,
Catherine Paquet - ISBN: 1578702283, by Cisco Press. As I mentioned
previously, and especially for this exam, you'd be better off sticking with
Cisco Press, merely for the way Cisco words the exams to their way of
speaking. If you're not cognizant of this, by going with any other book,
you're playing Russian Roulette. We always recommend to use whatever
additional reference materials you can afford to master the exam objectives.
We're a 'hands-on' study group, so we're blessed with having the means to do
our labs provided in the book. In summary, Cisco although boring yet very
illustrative, does this best.

Good luck and I really enjoy this list, so I felt it was time I put in my
$.02, after over a year of lurking. Again, hope this helps!

quietly and continue to carry a Big stick! The darkness will come to light

How lovely.

Reeta, eloquent drivel disguised as intellectualism is still drivel. I'm
saddened that you feel the need to rationalize and excuse murder on such a
scale and by such means. I also find it puts you in the same category as
those who would commit such atrocities. Interestingly enough, do you think
you would be able to voice a similar tirade in other parts of the world?
You speak of us and them, where is it you hail from Reeta? Perhaps you can
advise us here in America how you handle such "us versus them" issues?
Hmmm? Oh wait, based on your essay I think I see how you would handle such
a quandary.

Your ridiculous manifesto is nothing but a thinly veiled approval form for
the human sewage that committed this act. Your attempt to rationalize it
sickens me. It's always ever so much easier to cloak things like this in
terms that make it all seem like an academic exercise. Terrorism is indeed
about people, as you so stated, and when you have people in this world who
will stop at nothing to destroy others, or to advance their own fanatical
beliefs, there are going to be tragic consequences.

I had no intention of responding to this long winded "analysis" of yours,
it is flawed both logically and factually. As such I will cut short my
reply. I would certainly hate to seem arrogant.

RE: 'It's not the US they want to destroy. It's our arrogance' [7:19815]

2001-09-13 Thread Aderion Brewer

Priscilla,

While I always welcome and look out to reading your comments...How can you
rationalize an illogical act? While I do agree, many of us are angry and
many are grieving, I completely agree everyone is entitled to an opinion it
is the person assuming that they know the USA government or it's citizen's
behavior and not to mention, what these terrorist's were thinking! This can
only be the case if they are close enough to ascertain such a comment.
However, what I took from this person is that they feel we (American
citizens) are the problem...not the terrorists. We are the 'Big Bad USA'
not the terrorist. Our freedom is the problem, not the terrorists. For
God's sake, let's not try to be Psychologist's here and remain Engineers and
realize that we're all human and have beliefs and be realistic that their
beliefs lean on the underdogs, which are the 3rd world counties, which has
Dictators and/or religious beliefs that dictate the direction of their
countries and not appreciate the 'freedom' of religion and 'free' speech,
and 'free' living as our history demonstrates and embraces. These are two
idealism's that cannot mix and as a result innocent people have paid the
cost and in part our Government has dropped the ball from the FAA to central
intelligence to counter act and/or ignore the threats delivered by these
evil, self-destructing people, by not taking them seriously. Ignorance has
nothing to do with arrogance.

I'm personally so very tired of us making excuses, taking care of other
countries when we need help, with our taxes our homeless people, etc., the
list goes on, right here and now for our own people, in our own country.
Based on the article from 'Canada' which really drives home, the USA have
done more than their fair share of assistance, and it is rarely
reciprocated, not to mention the various religious organizations, charities
and fund raisers for these countries that can't control their corrupt
governments and people, when people have given freely, supposedly to those
in need. Instead the corrupt people take and take and dribble little to
those whom it was intended and later on ask for more funding from the good
'ole USA. The sheer assault on our common good to help and provide
assistance and then to take extreme advantage of that generosity by using
our educational systems, in which many go back to their countries to help
their countries, and/or are able to start and obtain funding and/or
government assistance to begin a new life here when we can't even feed our
homeless or financially assist the small businesses to get loans to fund
their ventures, but other nationalities can come here and get funding and do
and then want to come back and Bomb us! Ironically, when you go into these
small business establishments, you usually don't see any Amercian's on the
P/R! Hey, but that's really ok, isn't it. They're now American citizens,
too! My mistake, please pardon my cynicism, I'm really trying to remain
positive.

If nothing more comes of this to drive home for our people, to be a wake up
call, that we should begin looking out more for each other, our families and
our fellow American citizens and businesses and holding our government
accountable for our tax dollars and security concerns, because we do take
accountability seriously here...some heads should roll based on what got
thru the cracks! Let's get American back on track for our own social
issues, financial dilemmas and political dramas, and once we've paid down
our national debt, created more jobs should we then begin planning to help
others. This is why I stated earlier, we ARE a Blessed Nation as a whole,
regardless if they pay the loans back or not, return the generosity or not,
God will and has, despite what has happened...WE WILL OVERCOME! (I promise
this will be the end of my venting...thanks for listening and for the
positive comments on my previous reply!)
