Cisco IOS Docs Hardcopy? [7:49444]

2002-07-23 Thread Barbee Jason

When logged in to CCO, I can go to the Product Upgrade tool, select
documentation, and see a large list of available documentation. I would like
to order the documentation set for 12.2, but I do not see it on the list.
Is there a way to order the complete set? or should I just enter quantity 1
for all the IOS documenations.
And I'm concerned about billing too, it appears it will charge our Cisco
Reseller for the shipping and/or costs.
Do these documents cost anything or is it just the cost of shipping?

I thought I had read a thread that mentioned this somewhere, but I couldn't
find it using the groupstudy google search engine, and the older archive
search engine gave a glimpse not found error. I apologize if some of the
questions here have already been answered.

Thanks everyone,
-Jason

Wow. Maybe my eyes were strained last night, but that option was not there.
I logged in today and it was there. =DOC-SRIOS-12.2. Placed my order, and
when I called Cisco Customer Support to verify they said the balance due is
$0.00.
Thanks for your help!

RE: ISDN Simulator [7:41896]

2002-04-19 Thread Barbee Jason

It's already been said that getting the lines run is usually too expensive.
I know from experience. In my area it was $200/mo to install. $80 for 2 B
channels. That's just 1 ptp link. you would need to buy another ISDN line to
get 4 B channels, and be able to use multilink ppp connections. ($160/mo
recurring costs)

Simulators. I bought a used Teltone Demonstrator and 2 NT1 devices for
$1400. I almost bought an alternative - a 2610 with NM-2V, VIC-2-BRI-NT,
which will simulate an ISDN network. The cost on them is almost the same as
a regular simulator, with the ISDN simulator being more supported, possibly
more accurate, and ready to use, no configs required.

Here's my suggestion for a shoe string option.
You mentioned your shool, but you say your schedule is off. You can schedule
time on remote racks, and you'll have access to the equipment remotely. This
way, you can plan on having a day of access to the rack, rather than hit
and miss. I offer this type of rack access at www.CCIEwannabe.com. There
you can access all of my routers, and practice on my ISDN simulator.

For example, my cost of $20 for 24 hours of access will get you access to
the ISDN network, without large investment in equipment. In another month,
you can come back, and refine your skills. Your cost after this point would
be about as much as it costs to ship a simulator.

For me, buying a simulator made the most sense, because I provide it as a
service to Cisco canidates. You'll have to determine how much you would be
willing to spend to rent, or if it's worth it to put somewhere near $1300 in
your home lab. If you find you're wanting to use ISDN daily, the simulator
may be a good choice.

There are a few good reasons to buy a simulator. You can usually resell it
for somewhere close to what you paid for it. If you have ISDN routers at
your house, you can access them any time, without scheduling the time.

I'll list a couple other online racks you can investigate. I don't know if
all of them have ISDN, and I have no connection or experience with these
labs, I have seen them around, and I'm just providing them for reference.

RE: CAT5K PAGP-3 error [7:41822]

2002-04-18 Thread Barbee Jason

I had a 2926T (Cat 5002, with Sup II engine) do the same thing. I was
running a similar version of 4.5(6a). I disabled the ports too, but it would
keep happenening when I plugged in a device to the port.
cleared config, no change either. reset module, no help.
BUT, I flashed 4.5(13) on it and it fixed it up. No more errors. Try that.

RE: Rack [7:38796]

2002-03-27 Thread Barbee Jason

You have a couple options, the music racks already mentioned. I'll just add
a little on that subject.

Music racks. DJ equipment is also 19 wide, same as computer equipment.
I looked at the Music racks. Some were at an angle, some were just odd
looking. And there wasn't much cost savings. I found a vendor selling very
cheap music racks on ebay for about $30. I considered them to be very
limited in space, only a couple U of space. I wouldn't have been able to
store all my current toys in a single music rack. I now have 5 2500's, 1
catalyst 5002, an isdn simulator box, a server, and 2 rack mountable
hubs/MAUs. So your choice depends on how much equipment you can forsee
yourself buying.

Telecom Equipment Racks. They are 19 wide, and come in many sizes. A local
vendor, Rexel Southern, had several 7' Chatsworth racks in stock. They
bought in bulk, and I was able to get a great deal without paying shipping.
My 7' black rack cost me about $115. I would look around your city, and see
if you can find a telecom vendor if you want to look for a telecom rack. The
4' racks were about twice the cost, they could sell the 7' cheaper because
more people bought them.

RE: CCNP exams [7:39172]

2002-03-25 Thread Barbee Jason

From Brian's post, the last two paragraphs really sound firm that Cisco has
already made changes, and that CCNP's won't be able to continue their track.
While I see the announcement for the CCNA exam, I've looked at
www.cisco.com's certification pages, and I can't find any real announcement
related to changes in the CCNP track yet. Is there something I am missing
here?

RE: call pickup by external modem [7:37532]

2002-03-07 Thread Barbee Jason

This can be automated by using modem definitions.
(at the console)
conf t
modemcap edit newmodem misc FS0=1

line aux 0 (assuming you are using aux 0, was not specified)
modem autoconfigure type newmodem
flowcontrol hard
modem InOut
transport input all
login (optional, but you don't want people to dial in and get an exec prompt
without logging in)
password whatever (same reason as above)

Now whenever the modem resets, it will be reset into autoanswer waiting for
1 ring.

Unless you have a cabling problem that should get it working. Make sure you
can reverse telnet to the modem.
Since you didn't give a model number, I can't tell you what the rev telnet
port will be for your router. Look it up at www.cisco.com. 2600's are port
2065 for aux 0. 2500's are port 2001 if I recall correctly.
If you cannot rev telnet, check your cables. You should be using a rollover
to a RJ45 - (9pin or 25 pin) cisco adapter with modem somewhere on the
label.
You should be able to type commands directly to the modem and get an OK.

Catalyst 2926T Problem [7:30034]

2001-12-24 Thread Barbee Jason

I'm testing out a 2926T I recently bought for my lab at my house. The 24
10/100 ports seem ok. I have tried plugging devices into the 2 100Mbps
uplink ports, but I get a continuous repeating error about every 2-3 seconds.
2001 Dec 24 12:01:23 %PAGP-3-CONFPORTCHNLFAIL:Failure = -1 in
configPortChannel for mNo/pNo = 1/1
when I plug in the other port, it says port 1/2

I have tried another generic switch and a PC. I have set clear all to
erase the NVRAM of the switch to get it back to factory config.
This is the first 5000 platform switch I have purchased and logged into,
maybe I am confused about the use of the uplink ports. Are they *only*
uplinks to another cisco ISL switch?
I have searched Cisco.com, and most search engines. It is documented at
Cisco, and they recommend that you contact your Technical Support Rep
about this problem.
Another behavior I noticed, When I transmit data over the switch (computer
to computer), there is a slight buzzing noise. It immediately stops when I
abort a file transfer. Is this normal?
Thank you for any help.

RE: Catalyst 2926T Problem More info [7:30034]

2001-12-24 Thread Barbee Jason

The buzzing noise was one of the power supplies, I switched to the second
RPS and the sound is much less, but I can still hear a slight buzzing noise
during acitivity.
Both uplink ports work when connected to a device. I can transmit data
between computers.
On the console I get the message referenced about every 3 seconds output to
the console.

Ok, I ran set port channel 1/1-1/2 off
No change. Same error.
The machine can communicate to others through the port, so I am thinking it
is a software problem.
