ITU-T G.707

2001-02-09 Thread Brandon Peyton

Hi,

Can someone tell me what exactly ITU-T G.707 is and how it plays a role
in stacked DS3/E3 cards?

and which cards in cisco/juniper would support ITU-T G.707

Thanks in advance,

Brandon

RE: Route-map

2001-03-03 Thread Brandon Peyton

You should be able to run BGP with your 2611, just wont be able to
accept full routes.

If you upgrade to 128 you could, you might be able to handle partial
routes if you have 64.

I have a big problem with the route-map command.
My network looks like :

ISP A ISP B
  | |
  | |
  | |
  --s0--(router 2611)--- s1--

configuration (hypothetical):

interface Serial0
 ip address 1.1.1.1 255.255.255.0
  !
interface Serial1
 ip address 100.100.100.100 255.255.255.0
!
interface FastEthernet0
 ip address 10.0.0.222 255.255.255.0 secondary
 ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0
 ip policy route-map POLICY
 no ip directed-broadcast
!
ip classless
ip route 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 Serial1
no ip http server
!
access-list 2 permit 10.0.0.0 0.0.0.255
route-map POLICY permit 10
 match ip address 2
 set ip next-hop 1.1.1.1

traffic from the network 10.0.0.0 should go through serial 0 and ISP A
traffic from the network 192.168.1.0 should go through serial 1 and ISP B.

I don't understand how is it possible, that ping from 10.0.0.0 goes through
serial 1 and return through serial 0.
there is the policy on the ethernet interface.

I can't run BGP :( because my router is only 2611

Hi,

You could use extended access lists... or better yet use prefix lists.

Hope i can answer your questions. Some of the routers disable ICMP
response. Thus, they will not reply you but able to route packet through
and the host you ping to will reply your ICMP packets.

Im having a problem currently with my network I was wondering
if someone would advise me of what I could be doing wrong.

Currently:

Cisco 2509-(.182)---10/100 Switch--W2K Adv.Server(.178)-ppp to UUNET(.177)
|
NT server-(.183)|

Win98 Workstation-(.185)|

The setup is I dial out with W2K and a static route of 203.166.27.176/28
comes to
my connection (if you trace you can see all IP's get routed to my interface
but die)

I dont know what I need to do in setting up the NT server, I dont want to
run NAT.

Would anyone be willing to assist with this server?

The BSD server runs multiple web hosting services/mail/etc. The Cisco's i
want to
help out a few mates with their cert's and want them to be able to telnet to
them.

I've also tried "\Windows" and "C:\WINDOWS" both fail and have fatal error.

Would someone who has dual boot NT and 98 please show me a copy of your

RE: compression 800/1720/2620

2000-11-06 Thread Brandon Peyton

It depends on if your going to use it as a peer with an ISP. I wouldnt
recommend a 1720, but if its stand alone with only static routes to it, you
can live with a 26xx. If you plan on running BGP with full routes or even
partial routes, your router will die.

Hi group
Got a question regarding compression:
Can a Cisco 800, 1720 or 2620 (without AIM) provide ppp (payload)compression
for a 2mbit serial line? I dont know if the processor
is able to handle this...
I would appreciate answers from the practical viewpoint.

IS-IS is very stable and not so picky... ospf isnt the easiest to set up and

Edge Security... [7:17864]

2001-08-30 Thread Brandon Peyton

Hi,

I'm sure this has probably been covered in the archives, and what I have
searched isnt exactly what I need.

I've got a 2611 (12.0) and I'm trying to configure my router to provide me
with a secure network. 2 mailservers and 2 DNS machines and about 12
workstations and 4 routers.

What I'm trying to do is make my network completely invisible to the outside
world. When someone scans my IP range they will see nothing. However my
inside traffic should have no problems accessing anything anywhere.

I also want to block certain ports, for some reason my unix machines like to
advertise ldap 389 and i want to completely block that from being seen
outside.

Currently if you scan my network you'll see:
|___22 ssh
|___25 Antigen
|___53 domain
|___80 Executor
|___ 110 pop3
|___ 389 ldap
|___ 1002

I would like to close certain ports on the cisco for outgoing traffic, and
make anyone portscanning me see nothing open.

I've spend a huge amount of time on CCO but still havent found what I want.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Brandon

RE: Editing ACL's

2000-08-07 Thread Brandon Peyton

See if you can start using "prefix-list"s as you can change particular
lines of code without taking out the whole prefix-list.
(just space out your "seq" as you need to leave enough room for growth and
editing)

You can also start using extended access-lists, certain IOS(12?) versions
allow you to edit lines of an exteneded access-list.

Typically what I do, is do a wri t, copy the acl's to notepad, edit the
lines that I want to change, copy that to the clipboard, on the router, say
'no access-list xxx', then edit and paste. Just keep in mind that if you
are accessing it remotely and removing the entire access-list will cut your
connection, you will either need to be local on the console either
physically or via modem.

Is it possible to edit only one line of an access list without removing the
entire ACL. I heard that it is possible now with having
to cut and paste. Can you advise.

RE: BGP peering question

2000-05-11 Thread Brandon Peyton

Hey guys,

No longer called MCI Worldcom

Its now just UUNET/Worldcom...

FYI

and no UUNET will not peer anymore.
yes all AOL's traffic is on UUNET's backbone

*shrug*
just in case you wanted to know :)

Your friend is a bit confused about the usage and purpose of BGP. Generally
you only peer with your upstream providers, and only if you are multi-homed
with more than one ISP. Here's a URL that might help your friend understand
BGP better:
http://www.netaxs.com/~freedman/bgp.html

If you peer with your ISP and get full routes from them you will see all the
possible routes to AOL. You don't need to peer with AOL to get that
information. If you have multiple ISPs and BGP peer with each of them then
your traffic to AOL will travel over the link with the ISP who has the
shortest AS path to AOL. A good bet for AOL is MCI/UUNET or a provider with
a private upstream link to MCI/UUNET. Most of the AOL data transfer network
(AS 1668) runs over MCI backbone.

If your friend has only one upstream provider then BGP peering will do
nothing for him or her, since all the traffic will go to the same provider
anyway. Note that it is only useful to BGP peer with ISPs that you actually
have a physical connection with, and AOL does not sell private connections.

Don't forget about cable...if you are one of a few on your "down line" from
the main distribution box for your block, you can potentially have a great
throughput! I am getting close to T1 on my downstream!

Lab set up..

2000-05-19 Thread Brandon Peyton

Hi guys I have finally saved up some more money
and wanting to finally get a home lab instead
of always going to work to practice.

What different things should i get?
2 routers 26xx
switch 1900
hub
and the appropriate cables?
or what would you suggest

Course if you could direct me to the place that would have the best deals
(not an auction site) for used cisco equipment that would determine
what i can get as well...

Thanks,
Brandon

Oh, I am sure a company would pay you more or hire you faster if you CCIE
and NT/2000. Somehow, I think UNIX would be the choice here. Not for the
$$ but for the love of a fine operating system. And the elegance that UNIX
brings to the OS world.

Who votes for UNIX?

Brian:

I still think that you should stay with NT/2000. Its installation base is
far too large to ignore. CISCO is cool as we all know, but Cisco & MCSE
will give you much more competitive advantage in the world of work. Both
certs over either one! Also do not forget that Microsoft and CISCO have
already signed a major collaberation deal. The people who can integrate
systems or run interoperable networks are those with skills in both CISCO
and MCSE spheres.

2611 Hardware issue

2000-05-30 Thread Brandon Peyton

Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me what i can do with this router?

I've got a 2611 who's console port seems to have died.
When i console into it i get strange ascii symbols
and then hangs. I cant telnet from ethernet nor can
i ping its ethernet.

The console port itself is clean and the console cable
is working fine ( works with other routers )

Any ideas as to what i can do with this ?

Is it fixable? or trash now?

Thanks
Brandon

point is I have all the CCNP 1 books and now the certs have changed. No
doubt I need to know all thats in those books. But what tests would you

Ok, so when did this start to occur? On the 11 or 1st. Also, someone
please analyze the headers and tell me where the duplication lies. My guess
is someone has misconfigured a server that is spewing all messages back to
the
list. I did find a server a few days ago that was doing just that.

I will look into it.
