I am using a VPN Concentrator 3000 - and locally address pools . The clients gets assigned an IP address out of that pool. But I`d like to give it a preconfigured address . So I tried : USER MANAGEMENT - USERS - there I put in the IP address I4d like the client should get ! But it gets an address out of that pool - at random ! SNMP-queries ???
i would like to configure SNMP on our network. but reduce network traffic for snmp queries as far as possible. i did this on a testrouter so far. but debugging snmp packets - i noticed that every 2 seconds a query is sent - i attached an extract of the log-file. our network now has about 40-50 routers - so if i will enable snmp on all of these devices - that would result in a heavy network load, isn`t it- but so far - we do need such a strictly network mangagement- for now we do polling every 40 minutes - but when there is an outage on one of those devices, the customer notices it prior to our NOC. so i configured snmp traps - which works fine - in an acceptable time - but THAT didn`t reduce my snmp queries floods, either. so please could anyone give me an advice, how i could reduce these snmp queries. thanx hans 4w4d: SNMP: Get request, reqid 98419, errstat 0, erridx 0 sysUpTime.0 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.5.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE sysUpTime.0 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.10.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.11.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE 4w4d: SNMP: Response, reqid 98419, errstat 2, erridx 4 sysUpTime.0 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.5.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE sysUpTime.0 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.10.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.11.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE 4w4d: SNMP: Packet sent via UDP to 213.164.0.54 4w4d: SNMP: Packet received via UDP from 213.164.0.54 on Serial0/0:0 4w4d: SNMP: Get request, reqid 426099, errstat 0, erridx 0 ifEntry.12.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.13.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.14.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.15.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE 4w4d: SNMP: Response, reqid 426099, errstat 2, erridx 1 ifEntry.12.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.13.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.14.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.15.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE 4w4d: SNMP: Packet sent via UDP to 213.164.0.54 4w4d: SNMP: Packet received via UDP from 213.164.0.54 on Serial0/0:0 4w4d: SNMP: Get request, reqid 98419, errstat 0, erridx 0 sysUpTime.0 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.5.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE sysUpTime.0 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.11.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE 4w4d: SNMP: Response, reqid 98419, errstat 2, erridx 4 sysUpTime.0 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.5.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE sysUpTime.0 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.11.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE 4w4d: SNMP: Packet sent via UDP to 213.164.0.54 4w4d: SNMP: Packet received via UDP from 213.164.0.54 on Serial0/0:0 4w4d: SNMP: Get request, reqid 491635, errstat 0, erridx 0 ifEntry.13.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.14.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.15.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE 4w4d: SNMP: Response, reqid 491635, errstat 2, erridx 1 ifEntry.13.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.14.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.15.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE 4w4d: SNMP: Packet sent via UDP to 213.164.0.54 4w4d: SNMP: Packet received via UDP from 213.164.0.54 on Serial0/0:0 4w4d: SNMP: Get request, reqid 98419, errstat 0, erridx 0 sysUpTime.0 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.5.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE sysUpTime.0 = NULL TYPE/VALUE 4w4d: SNMP: Response, reqid 98419, errstat 0, erridx 0 sysUpTime.0 = 284539442 ifEntry.5.3 = 2048000 sysUpTime.0 = 284539442 4w4d: SNMP: Packet sent via UDP to 213.164.0.54 4w4d: SNMP: Packet received via UDP from 213.164.0.54 on Serial0/0:0 4w4d: SNMP: Get request, reqid 557171, errstat 0, erridx 0 ifEntry.14.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.15.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE 4w4d: SNMP: Response, reqid 557171, errstat 2, erridx 1 ifEntry.14.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.15.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE 4w4d: SNMP: Packet sent via UDP to 213.164.0.54 4w4d: SNMP: Packet received via UDP from 213.164.0.54 on Serial0/0:0 4w4d: SNMP: Get request, reqid 622707, errstat 0, erridx 0 ifEntry.15.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE 4w4d: SNMP: Response, reqid 622707, errstat 2, erridx 1 ifEntry.15.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE 4w4d: SNMP: Packet sent via UDP to 213.164.0.54 4w4d: SNMP: Packet received via UDP from 213.164.0.54 on Serial0/0:0 4w4d: SNMP: Get request, reqid 98420, errstat 0, erridx 0 sysUpTime.0 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.5.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE sysUpTime.0 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.10.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.11.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE 4w4d: SNMP: Response, reqid 98420, errstat 2, erridx 4 sysUpTime.0 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.5.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE sysUpTime.0 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.10.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.11.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE 4w4d: SNMP: Packet sent via UDP to 213.164.0.54 4w4d: SNMP: Packet received via UDP from 213.164.0.54 on Serial0/0:0 4w4d: SNMP: Get request, reqid 426100, errstat 0, erridx 0 ifEntry.12.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.13.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.14.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.15.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE 4w4d: SNMP: Response, reqid 426100, errstat 2, erridx 1 ifEntry.12.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.13.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.14.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.15.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE 4w4d: SNMP: Packet sent via UDP to 213.164.0.54 4w4d: SNMP: Packet received via UDP from 213.164.0.54 on Serial0/0:0 4w4d: SNMP: Get request, reqid 98420, errstat 0, erridx 0 sysUpTime.0 = NULL TYPE/VALUE ifEntry.5.3 = NULL TYPE/VALUE sysUpTime.0 = NULL

Backup Interface and Routing!
Hi! i configured a serial link and an ISDN link between two routers. the serial line is the primary line. if it fails the backup line ISDN-Interface) takes over. i configured RIP - To prevent Routing Updates from establishing the call i set the ISDN-Interface as PASSIVE. Updates didn`t initate the call anymore. BUT ! what about the routing information. if the primary fails, no routing updates won`t flow. so i configured static routes with a higher administrative distance - IS THERE ANOTHER SOLUTION FOR THAT PROBLEM ! thanx in advance = Hans Schimek Student Fachhochschule St. Pölten f. i previously wrote about my problem concerning IDSN calls which got disconnected automatically. the reason why i would need this connection is - my cisco 2504 does not boot with the 2 serial interfaces which are on it. only with the BRI and TokenRing Interface. that`s -because i did a software update ! now i would like to download the old image from a tftp-server. i need about 6 MB but the call disconnects after about 4 MB. can anyone give me an advice ?
