Basically, you will have to deploy hardware at both
the locations to terminate the VPN tunnel. You can
look at netscreen boxes. You can buy a netscreen-5 for
about $500. They act as great firewalls too.

PIX 501 would be a good Cisco solution, or you could
 go for a linux
based FW on a PC, such as Ipcop.

 Great networking guru's:

I have not done much in the way of networking small
 offices together. I
would imagine that a private WAN link will be too
 expensive for the
company. What are the logical options as far as
 setting up VPN between
two small offices that have DSL level bandwidth?

Re: Line protocol goes up and down [7:39766]

2002-03-28 Thread Imran Moin

Hi Maamun,

I had a similar problem when setting a network
connecting two 2500. The line protocol on a serial
interface would continuously go up and down. After
little bit of troubleshooting, i finally boiled it
down to the fact that the serial port on one of the
routers was faulty. So try replacing the router (if
its not a production box) or try using another serial
interface (if its available) and see if that solves
your problem.

Good luck,
Imran Moin.

Re: Question for Support exam [7:13859]

2001-07-26 Thread Imran Moin

If you are using a layer 3 switch, then i would go
with option 2 because each vlan on the switch
corresponds to a logical interface on the router.

So that would be my 0.02 cent answer.

 4) Single routed subnet
 5) Spanning-tree branch

Phew !!! Passed my BCMSN today !!!! [7:12202]

2001-07-12 Thread Imran Moin

Hi Gang,

Guess what...I passed my BCMSN exam
todaygot a 857 score..Though i am not
satisfied with it, but i am happy. It was much tougher
than i anticipated it to be. I got a lot of design
questions, asking specific details of 4xxx, 5xxx, 6xxx
and 8xxx switches. I was asked a loto of questions
about which equipment would be best for a given
scenario.

Lots of Vlans and STP. A bit of Multicast and MLS but
surprisingly no HSRP...not even a single
question !!!

Phew !! Its over for me now and i am looking forward
to BCRAN now which is due in 2 weeks from now !!

Thanks a lot to all of you there who helped me out !!

Special thanks to all those who replied my panicky
email 2 days about about LANE .there was
no LANE in the exam though some questions had a
mention abt 802.10.

All the best to all of you who plan on taking this
exam soon. If you need any more information on the
exam, i would be glad to do that.

Thanks again

Regards,
Imran.

Yahoooooooo........passed my CCNA today !!!!!! [7:9563]

2001-06-22 Thread Imran Moin

Hi Gang,

You would all be glad to know that i passed my CCNA
exam this morning. I joined this list about 2 weeks
back and have really liked the discussions going on
especially the ones on OSPF and VLANs.

Well, I am planning to start preparing for my CCNP
switching exam now. I am planning to take CCNP in the
order of switching, remote access, routing and
troubleshooting. Would you guys like to give me some
pointers on how to start my CCNP quest. In particular,
the switching exam as I am planning to take it in abt
15 days. If anyone has any material you wanna pass on,
then I would be more than glad to accept them (that
wasnt tough to decide).

Thanks in advance to all those who decide to reply
back .

Regards,
Imran.

Re: Damn, I can't get this to work, please help!! [7:8797]

2001-06-20 Thread Imran Moin

I didnt understand your question completely. Didny you
enable trunking on the subinterfaces before inter-Vlan
routing. If you didnt, then it will definetely not
work. Please clarify your doubt.

Imran.

I have a same suggestion as Daniel =)
After you create subinterfaces per vlan on the C2600
 fastEthernet interface,
you must issue the encapsulatin command before you
 actually assign the IP
 address.

In my case, that was not the problem. I was doing
 InterVlan Routing between
C2600 (with fa interface mod on it) and Cat5505 w/o
 RSM. After setting
everything right on Catalyst side, I created the
 subinterfaces on fa1/0.
The problem is that C2600 did not perform any
 InterVlan routing. I changed
the encap type to dot1q, and suddently it worked.
 Very strange Any idea
 anybody???

 Thanks

Re: passed switching test! [7:8207]

It was more than faith, because faith where
 networking is concerned, I have
very little.I am equating that to practical
experience of which I have none.

Bookwise, for Xmas last yr, my brother-n-law gave me
 the sybex switching
guide. I had just passed the ccna. I read it
back to back twice and read all the mail here at
 this siteThere are
several really really smart knowledgeable people
and occasionally they really get to talking and it
 is conductive to learning
at that time. Then about 3 weeks ago, a
friend of mine gave me the Tim Boyles book and after
 looking it over I saw
it included much much more information and
so on the similiar topics I compared notes. It was
 strange because on some
subjects, sybex would explain one thing
and then I would look in the cisco press and it had
 another way of
explaining or even adding to slightly. Enough to
make you want to read more. But because of the two
 explainations on whatever
topic, and the fact that they were
different is what made me seek a third souce and
 that was the online
university. And then I would look it up in the
cisco on-line university and start reading and
 comparing that. I also took
every online test I could find. Over and over
again. And then over again. I made myself charts
 that made things appear
organized to me. I am a comparer of things
and so this is exactly how I tackled this material.
 By comparing things

And that cisco university online..You can get
 pretty deep in there.
Links go on forever. I get very immersed in that
site. It's my home page. I think that is one of
 the most interesting sites
I have ever seen or enjoyed.

Something else that is strange is the fact that I
 don't really know how to
do this. I only understand the things I know by
reading and comparing. What really works is in
 some other world from
 me.

 And that was my studies.

I did it890 on my test and there was one
 question that I didn't even
answer. It had two screens and was a fill in the
blank where I was supposed to write in domain
 name, ip address and the
 vlan
numbers and name. I hit the wrong
button and went to the next question...darn...
 It was relatively an easy
easy exam and only took me 20 minutes.

  My scores were:

  CGMP100%
  Cisco Fundamentals 100%
  Multicast100%
  Multilayer Switching 83%
  Spanning Tree 75%
  Switching Interconnectivity 90%
  Troubleshooting 100%
  Trunking 75%
  VLAN Operations 66%

My next test will be the routing one. But first
I want to figure out what
the heck falls under the catagory of vlan
operations. With no experience, I will be sadly
 lacking in skills if I
  don't know that.

Thanks everyone for all the wonderful
discussions. That and tim boyes and
sybex and the cisco university helped me
achieve this. And my very very very patient
 husband.

  Have a great day!!
