Re: SONET/SDH Restoration ! [7:58082]

2002-11-27 Thread Jimmy
You mentioned that the GUI will automatically choose the best path and build
the cross-connect. So how does it build the link? What is the criteria for
choosing it? Could you explain it to me. (Link from A to C). The problem is
i am veri curious on how the link is chosen. For example, shortest delay,
BW, etc?

Cheers !

B

AC
  \ /
   D

If BLSR is employed, how do i know in which direction is the packet flow
from A to C. Should it flow through B or D? What is the criteria for
choosing the path?
For BLSR/2, since it mentioned half BW for transmission and half for
protection, therefore i can say the transmission rate is BW/2 rite?
Any information will be appreciated !If possible, send me notes abt it so
that i can have a better idea. Thanks alot!

STP and Switching ! [7:56061]

2002-10-21 Thread Jimmy
Hi,
I am confused by the CCNP exam certification guide (Cisco Press). It
mentioned that a switch in the Distribution layer would make a better Root
Bridge choice than one in Access layer. I thought for distribution switch is
of layer 3 so STP is not necessary for it unless it is a flat switched
network. (Pg 178 of the book) In the Figure 5.8 (Pg 176), i couldn't
understand how come Catalyst D is the DP for Catalyst E and F. I told
Catalyst C has priority than D since the MAC address is smaller. Is there
any mistake. Can anyone please advise.

Where can i find the errata for the ciscopress book? I have went to
ciscopress.com but couldn't find any. Can anyone give me the URL?

Cheers!

Backbone ? [7:54590]

2002-09-30 Thread Jimmy

Hi,
Just want to clarify something. Let say i have middle-size network which all
the switches (around 4) connected together to a router. The backbone of the
network should be the toward the WAN side which is from the router onsward
rite? Or is it the connection from the switch to the router?

Re: LAN Design [7:54023]

2002-09-25 Thread Jimmy

First of all, thank for the wonderful response.

So from what you all have said. If the user is for normal purpose like
running some application on servers and access the Internet. Will a 100Mbps
be sufficient for 300 users. As for the users, they will be splitted into
several group of around 15-20 each.Or a 10Mbps switch will be more than
sufficient for it.

Can i calculate the BW for each user in this manner:
100M / 300 (no of user)
Assuming full usage.

Let say i have around 3 storey of about 300 users each, The backbone switch
should be 10x the BW of each floor rite?

Cheers,
Jimmy

Cisco ACS Server Problem [7:46193]

I am configuring a Cisco ACS server as a TACACS+
server. I have a router will use ACS server for
authentication. At the router, all parameters like
tacacs host , tacacs key has been configured. ACS
server is located inside the Firewall. Few username
are created in ACS server.

From router , I am able to ping to the ACS server
and able to telnet to ACS server port 49. Firewall log
show that packets are accepted. However no
authentication can be done. I got "access denied".

I have done a debug aaa authentication.

test prep 607 CCNA HELP [7:40228]

2002-04-02 Thread Jimmy

I'm studying for the CCNA test. but should i wait to pick up the Sybex 607
book, or will the 507 book suffice?
You guys mention Todd's book. You guys are reffering to the Sybex book
right?
Also, is the test the same as the 507 but with simulators or did they scrap
the entire question list and start a new one? Please help me out...

thanks,
 Jimmy.

Re: sub-interface on Ethernet or FastEthernet [7:19394]

2001-09-11 Thread Jimmy Leong

Hi Jeff :

Currently I am using cisco 4000 with 2 ethernet port ( 10Base T ) ,
interface Ethernet 1 got 3 networks ( 2 secondary IP ) , Interface Ethernet
0 got 1 network. I plan to use sub-interface in interface Ethernet 1 instaed
of secondary IP. Interface Ethenet is connected to hub.

Some people told me that we can only create sub-interface on FastEthernet
and NOT Ethernet ( 10Base ). Is it true ? What is the minimum IOS version
should I use ?

cheers
Jimmy

NAT [7:11799]

2001-07-10 Thread Jimmy Torres

Here is a Brain teaser
In Network Address Translation (NAT), one ip address has to be
substituted with another. When this happens, the ip-layer
checksum must be recalculated. What is the quickest way possible
to do this operation, and give your own flavour of pseudo (or real
if you want) code to show how it is done.

reverse telnet... [7:6906]

2001-06-02 Thread jimmy halbert

Hello Guys / Ladies,
I am trying to get reverse telnet configured on a 2511. I have 7 other
routers connected via an asyn scsi cable. all seems to be well but still can
not get it going. can not telnet to other router via the access server. If
anyone has quick and dirty notes on this configuration, I would appreciate
it if you can email it to me ...

Thanks a lot

Re: VPN CLIENT

2000-09-04 Thread Jimmy D. Burrell

Look at VPDN. I had the same problem and eventually solved it by bringing
in the Win2000 clients using M$ pptp/mschap/mppe. You will have to
authenticate to a Radius server that understands mschap/mppe-keys
(i.e. M$'s -- see NT 4.0 Option pack or W2k Server). I know it's only
40-bit, but hey, it's encryption. Besides the vips are already on 2000 so
it's a mandate. I've found no other way.

On the other hand, I've seen a lot of references on Cisco's web site to a
new 'Cisco Secure VPN Client' for all Windows OS'es, supposedly due before
this year's end. Anybody heard any more on this?? It would sure be nice
because there is a lot more functionality in Cisco's client verses M$'s.

Hope this helps,

Jim.
