Token Ring in home lab questions
Dug through the archives and found very little on setting up Token Ring in a home lab. I'm still confused. How is this done? Any good sites that I can go to find out this information? Among other equipment, I've got an SMC MAU, a Token Ring NIC installed in a PC, DB-9 to RJ45 media filter, and a 2504. What type of cable do I need between the media filter on the router and the MAU? I know it's not a standard Cat 5 cable because Token Ring uses different pins than Ethernet. What about the cable between the PC and the MAU? The NIC card can handle either RJ-45 or DB-9. On the MAU, there are two ports that are labeled RO and RI with small push button switches next to them to enable or disable "wrap". What are these for? Any information would be appreciated. PLCC tool and 4000M+ questions
1.)Does anybody know where I can get a PLCC (Plastic leaded chip carrier) extraction tool so I can replace the boot roms in some 2500's. Or is there another way of removing them without damaging them? 2.) Cisco's website and their technical staff claim that the 4000M+ can only handle 8MB of flash memory (two slots that can each handle a 4MB flash module)even with upgraded boot roms installed. I find this hard to believe. Anybody ever upgraded the 4000M+ with more than 8MB flash or is it even possible? PLCC Tool, 4000M+ Flash questions
Let's try this again. I sent this once but it didn't make it for some reason. I have two questions. If anyone could answer them I would really appreciate it. 1.) I can't locate a PLCC (plastic leaded chip carrier) extraction tool to change some boot rooms in some 2500's. Where can I get one or what can I safely use in place of it? 2.) Cisco's website and tech support claim that the 4000M+ can only handle 8 MB of flash (4MB + 4MB in the slots). I find this hard to believe. Has anyone found out any differently? This 4000M+ has the latest boot roms. Router Simulators
I searched the archives but found nothing on router simulators. Just curious if anyone has used them and if they're any good for CCNP preparation. I was out to the RouterSim site and it's tempting to purchase because you're able to configure about four routers and two switches. Any information would be appreciated.
