RE: HSRP - hows it work [7:24721]

2001-10-31 Thread Mr. Oletu Hosea Godswill, CCNA

Hi group,

Who have used the 'standby track serial 0' command
before, while configuring HSRP.

I tried it and was disappointed because, my two
upstream providers are connected via a radio
(microwave link). Even when one of them is down, the
radio coneected to the router still send keepalives to
the route and as such the interface does not go down,
and as such the HSRP does not work when any of the
upstream goes down.

Has anyone being able to solve this problem?

Regards

HSRP works by projecting a virtual IP address and
 a virtual MAC address.
You would configure the clients/workstations with a
 gateway that is the
virtual IP address (or the standby IP). Whenever
 the end device sends an
ARP which the routers resolve to the virtual MAC.
It is possible to use a
Burned-in (MAC) Address (called a BIA) in case the
 default virtual MAC
causes a problem. Once the end workstation resolves
 the virtual IP to the
virtual MAC, it communicates with the virtual MAC,
 in which both routers
receive and take note of the traffic, but only the
 active router will
 actually forward the traffic.

This is a in a nutshell view of HSRP and I'm sure
 there is something that
I've left out or said wrong, but that's basically
 it..

Multihoming Without BGP!!!!!....How Posible???? [7:20305]

2001-09-18 Thread Mr. Oletu Hosea Godswill, CCNA

Hi all,

first let me pay tribute to my numerous Networking
colleagues, who lost their life while in active
service at WTC and Pentagon that fatefull Tuesday and
may God grant their love ones in this group the
courage to bear the lost. I stand with the popular
side 'Terrorism must be completely stamped out'

I will need some help with this configuration am
proposing.

I want to implement multihoming for one of my clients
and I do not want to use BGP at all neither do I want
to ask each of my upstream providers to route the
other provider's Set of IP Addresses given to me,
through its own Network. I have two Routers called
RouterA and RouterB. RouterA have three ethernet ports
(EA1, EA2 and EA3), while RouterB have two ethernet
ports (EB1 and EB2).

My two upstream providers (ISPs) are Source1 with IP
address 63.98.9.0 255.255.255.0 and Source2 with IP
address 100.10.10.0 255.255.255.0. Source1's link is
terminated on port EA1 on RouterA while Source2's link
is terminated on port EA2 on RouterA as well. Port EA3
on RouterA is connected to port EB1 on RouterB, while
Port EB2 on RouterB is connected to my Access layer
Switch.

That is the schematic above, my proposed configuration
is stated below:

RouterA(Config)#Interface EA1
RouterA(Config-inf)#IP Address 63.98.9.1 255.255.255.0

Undefined Port Adapter type 55 at bay 1 [7:20112]

2001-09-16 Thread Mr. Oletu Hosea Godswill, CCNA

Hi,

I have a 2621 router with 8M flash and 32M Ram. I
inserted a network module with 1 ethernet port into
it, the IOS 12.0 did not recognize it. It only sees
the FastEthernet ports that came with the router.
Upgrading the memory to 64M did not help issues,
Changing the module with two other onces did not help
the situation.

However, the IOS keep saying that the Adapter ports
are undefined.

Looking forward to your response.

CID Exam!!!--- - - Stratacom Switches [7:18476]

2001-09-04 Thread Mr. Oletu Hosea Godswill, CCNA

Hi group,

Am bill to write my CID exam in 4 days time, am using
the cisco press book. However, the book did not give
stratacom switches any treament except for a few lines
and they test this area heavyly I learnt in the exam.
I have done a lot of searches even in CCO but could
not locate any white paper on this subject.

Please, help with a link or URL where I can get a
white paper on this switch. The URL provided in the
cisco press book did not help issues and on CCO, the
only thing I saw was how Cisco aquire stratacom in
1996, I wonder whether they will ask one that in the
exam. Any link will help, please.

Also feed me on the last minute check-list on the CID

CID Exam--How difficult????????? [7:17497]

2001-08-27 Thread Mr. Oletu Hosea Godswill, CCNA

Hi group,

Am finally going for my CID examination on Saturday.
Has any one written the exam lately? I heard that
cisco is planning to change the course content. What
is its difficulty level? I already have CCNA, CCDA
and
CCNP. I understand alot of people do fail this exam,

what are the things to silence areas to keep watch on

and what are the areas to give less attention.

AM using the Cisco Press, Internetwork Design book by

Matthew H. Birkner CCIE #3719, how good is this text?

Do I need the appendix section of the book for the
exam or it is just met for general knowledge?

 Sorry for being this inquisitive.

Please feed me as much as possible about this exam
 without violating the NDA.

 regards.
 Oletu

Where is the Missig Link [7:7304]

2001-06-05 Thread Mr. Oletu Hosea Godswill, CCNA

Hi Group,

Please if you can just drop a line across to me, it
might really help me.

Has any one install a 2600 series router at the other
end of a microwave radio link through the ethernet
port be it 0/0 or 0/1?

I have tried this on several occasions but it would
not work, for reasons I have not found out.

The setup is like this. I have a microwave radio link
which is perfect. If you connect your computer to the
the radio through a cross-over cable you would browse
the net fine. My desire is to place this client in a
different subnet/network. I introduce a router in
place of the computer connecting to e0/0 of the 2600
using a cross-over cable. The other e0/1 of the
router is then connected to the computer using another
cross-over cable. The radio is getting its link from
another router whose ip-address is 64.86.155.221/28,
the radio's ip-address is 64.86.155.155/28, the e0/0
interface of the 2600 is 64.86.155.156/28, the e0/1 is
192.168.0.1/24. The routing protocol is 'igrp 200'.

After the above configurations, the best I can get is
the replication of all the routes learned by this
router from the other one over the microwave radio
link, but my computer can browse the net. Remove the
2600 router and plug the computer straigt into the
radio you would be able to browse the net.

This is my dilemma. The questions that race through my
mind without answer are:

1. Is it that I can't use the interface e0/0 and e0/1
to make a WAN link over a microwave radio?

2. Do I need to install an ethernet interface WAN
module in the WAN slot provided in the router.

3. Are mine just missing something.

4. Please remind me of what the missing link seem
like.

Thanks in advance.

Regards.

BCMSN Exams [7:3157]

2001-05-04 Thread Mr. Oletu Hosea Godswill, CCNA

Hi All,

Am bill to write this exam next week. I need some helping tips:

1. What is the pass mark for the exam?
2. Am using the Cisco press book for BCMSN by Karen Webb. Is this book
enough?
Surprising, this book did not cover topics like DDR, Cisco TAC/CCO, ATM/LANE,
etc which I gather from cisco site that are some of the test areas. Should I
forget about these and just concentrate on the cisco press book or I should
get other additional materials?
3. What is the difficulty level of the exam when compared with BCSN?

Thanks for your respond.

WAN Connection Through Ethernet Interface [7:1955]

2001-04-25 Thread Mr. Oletu Hosea Godswill, CCNA

Hi,

Is it possible for me to connect a production WAN interconnecting two cisco
routers with a microwave radio link in between through their ethernet
interface? Or must it be through the serial interface.

I have a cisco 2621 and 2511, with no add-on card. Which means, I just have 2
fastethernet interfaces on the 2621 and 1 serial interface with 1 ethernet
interface on the 2511. The serial interface on the 2511 has been connected to
another WAN. Am implementing a second WAN connection from the ethernet
interface of the 2511 through a microwave radio-link using speedlan radios to
1 of the fastethernet interfaces in the 2621.

After everything, 'show cdp neighbor' works fine on both routers. 'show ip
route' also works fine on both router. Pinging is okay. But from does prompt
in a workstaion attached to the 2611 router through a 3com switch 'tracert'
did not work, though 'ping' works fine and I can not browse the ethernet
either.

What might be the problem? What am I missing out? Or is it that WAN
connectivity can only be achieved through serial interface connection?
..??

Many questions, few answers.

Regards.
Oletu.

Strange Configuration, Strange Result [7:1763]

2001-04-24 Thread Mr. Oletu Hosea Godswill, CCNA

Am trying to connect two cisco routers each on both side of two speedlan
radios and antenna. In place of the second router was a 3com switch before
now, and with that connection I can browse the internet.

I now replace the switch with a router, the connection from the radio into
the
router was made using a cross connect rj45 cable. After all configuration,
show ip route duplicates all the routes from the first router into the second
router. Everything seem okay. But outside the route I cannot browse the
internet.

Both routers were connected together via the radios through their ethernet
interfaces. The questions now is, 1. Can't I connect two routers via a radio
through their ethernet interfaces? 2. If the answer is NO, why then was 'show
cdp neighbor' showed me the second router, why was the line protocol up, why
was the routing table forwarded to my second router? 3. Is there anything I
am
missingup?

Thanks
Oletu H. G.

Re: Snapshot Routing

2001-04-02 Thread Mr. Oletu Hosea Godswill, CCNA

Sorry, Snapshot routing is purely for Distant vector
routng protocols, so eigrp is out of it. Static routes
will solve your problem.

Thanks

Guys,

I know that snapshot routing support RIP and IGRP
but .does EIGRP
support
snapshot routing?

I had configure EIGRP and snapshot. But seems
snapshot routing got no
effect on EIGRP. When the snapshot is in quiet
status, eigrp
continuous
keeping the ISDN link up.

If snapshot does not works on EIGRP then is it only
static route can be
used
to keep ISDN link quiet?

No Domain Server Found

Hi all,

I have a little problem with my LAN. Most likely I am not think alright =

Service Provider is connected.

The Proxy Server host PC have two NICs installed one pointing outside =
and the other pointing inward. I assigned private IP Address 192.168.z.x =
to the one pointing inward. The other PCs in the LAN have address ranges =
of 192.168.z.x+1. The internet explorer was configured to use the proxy =
to connect to the internet.

When I try to log into the domain from the workstations, I keep =
receiving the message 'No Domain Server Available to validate your =
Password.". When I click Okay, and the systems boots. I found out =
that I can ping the Domain controller and other workstations in the LAN =
and can as well browse the internet via the proxy on the Domain =
controller, but when I click Network Neigborhood I can only see the =
current workstation.

This senerio had been working fine for me in my former place of work, =
the only difference is that both NICs from the Proxy server PC are not =
connected to the Switch, one is connectec directly to the gateway and =
the other to the LAN.

I believe I am missing something out somewhere, the multi-million dollar =
