Re: interesting traffic?

Yes what i think is that you have forgot the
'dialer-group 1' command on the dialer interface and
'dialer-list 1 protocol ip permit' or 'dialer-list 1
protocol ip list 1' where list 1 is the access list
you define to generate the interesting traffic.

Re: Function of IP HELPER ADDRESS & IP DIRECTED BROADCAST ?

2001-02-28 Thread Muhammed Khalilullah

Router by-default doesn't forward the broadcast storm.
So any application that requires broadcast to be
forwarded to another subnet wiould be blocked by the
router. Taking the example of DHCP Server & Client. A
DHCP Client machine on bootup sends broadcast in
search of a BBOTP Server. As long as this server is in
the same subnet, an IP address will be automatically
assigned to that machine. However if the DHCP server
is on another subnet, this broadcast will no be
forwarded to that subnet (The behaviour of a Router)
unless we specify the IP HELPER-ADDRESS w.x.y.z
command on the interface that is recieving the
broadcast (i.e. the interface with subnet of client's
machine). this command actually converts the broadcast
to a unicast address, where the unicast address is
specified by the IP address of the DHCP server
specified in the Helper-address command. As long as
there is only one DHCP server you require nothing else
(i.e no requirement for IP DIRECTED-BROADCAST command)
but if there are multiple dhcp servers on the same
subnet you have to define the directed broadcast
address in the ip helper-address command. Eg if the
network is 10.1.1.0/24 then the directed-broadcast
address would be 10.1.1.255. In this case you have to
define ip directed-broadcast command on the
interfaces.

access-list 1 permit host 192.168.1.52

This access-list will be assigned on all the VTY lines

What I do is that, I copy the entire access-list (from

BGP !

Hi All,
I just wanna know if 1600 routers support BGP. If yes,
then which IOS version and what are the memory
requirements. I've heard that BGP is rather a platform
dependent routing protocol. Is this true? I've tried
12.0 IP and IP/PLUS versions and it says 'Unknown
Routing Protocol' in response to the command 'Router
BGP xxx' :<

Well you can connect async modems at the async
interfaces, configure the lines as 'modem inout' ,
'transport input all' 'modem autoconfigure type xxx'
and etc. Also create a loopback interface or keep the
Ethernet interface UP and then telnet it to this IP
address with port no as (2000 + x) where x is the line

The router you are dialing in, i.e. the router that is

the router that is dialing to should only use ppp pap

Defaul-Gateway is usually used if you have disabled

Problem in implementing NAT

2001-04-03 Thread Muhammed Khalilullah

Hi groupies,

I am doing job in an ISP in Pakistan, and we are
applying NAT with Overloading on 4500 router. we apply
NAT on 254 Remote Clients with 8 Public IP pool like
(w.x.y.z/248) with the Using of Overloading NAT. After
5 to 6 hours Our Memory and CPU usage is increasing
abnormally and reaches upto 90% to 95%. and Holding
memory of IP Input Process is also increases
constantly. The DRAM size is 16 MB.

Cisco has recommended me for decreasing the time-outs
for these translations. I've configured this also but
still the same effect. Cisco has also mentioned that
we might be experiencing a bug CSCds05523.

I'm not sure what it is!

Waiting for your earliest replies.
Thanks in advance.

Re: IP Helper-address questions [7:247]

2001-04-11 Thread Muhammed Khalilullah

Actually, the IP helper command is placed on the
interface that is recieving the broadcasts. Now you
have to decide which router is supposed to recieve the
broadcasts. But in usual case, Clients usually try to
communcate with the PDC for authentication and other
stuffs. So, i think it would work to configure ip
helper-address w.x.y.z on the ethernet interface of
router 1 only (where w.x.y.z is the ip address of your
PDC, but if you have multiple PDCs then you have to
give the directed-broadcast address and also have to
use ip directed-broadcast command).

I hope this will work

Re: IP Helper-address questions [7:247]

2001-04-16 Thread Muhammed Khalilullah

Yes, The DHCP server will check the IP address of the
interface on which you have configured the IP Helper
address command. So make pools on the DHCP server
accordingly. eg: Router's interface 192.168.1.1/16
Server' pool 192.168.0.1-192.168.255.254 wil work.

Hi groupies!

I just wanna know if 1600 router supports SDLC
encapsulation. If the answer is yes, which IOS version
and features set. If not, then which router series
supports it. Please specify the IOS versions in either
case.
