Re: Network Analyzer - Slightly OT

2000-09-26 Thread Neil Loffhagen

Chuck,

I have EtherPeek, running on a DELL latitude, with W2K Pro. I use the
following:

  Farallon **Fast EtherTX-10/100 PN995-TX CardBus (21143) CRC,
Alignment,
*Runt, Oversize *Use special Digital driver with EtherPeek 4.0.2 and
later for capture of error packets. See Readme.txt in Driver\Dc21x4
directory where EtherPeek is installed for installation instructions.

See http://www.wildpackets.com/support/epwhardware.html#pcmcia for other
suggested cards that are compatible with EtherPeek. The Farallon card cost
me just under £100.00 in the UK, so I'm sure it would be a lot less than
$500.00

I also have NetSense, but have never used Sniffer Pro, so cannot compare
them.

Hope this helps.

Re: booksamillion

2000-09-26 Thread Neil Loffhagen

Hi,

I've used booksamillion to purchase about 8 books, being delivered to the
UK. Even with the overseas postage they are still cheaper than local WEB
sites, such as Amazon.co.uk, though they do take longer to arrive. So I
only order books from them that I'm not in hurry for. I would imagine the
delivery time in the US should be no problem?

Beth,

If you look on AG Groups site:
http://www.aggroup.com/support/hardware/epw they have a list of promiscuous
cards that they have tested with EtherPeek. This may help, but not sure how
the cards listed would work with other packet sniffers.

Re: Windows based sniffer

2000-07-17 Thread Neil Loffhagen

Hi,

I tend to agree with the general consensus that EtherPeek is worth the
money. I've been using it for a couple of months now. Only caution I'd
raise is that if you want to see all the errors (CRC, Alignment, Runt,
Oversize), as well as packet information, check the NICs that are
recommended by AGGroup to use with EtherPeek and make sure you use one.

http://www.aggroup.com/support/hardware/epw

Otherwise you may be disappointed. If you're going to buy EtherPeek, it
might be worth waiting a little while as they are about to sell the software
with one of the recommended cards in a package.

Neil.

RE: CCNA badge

2000-06-09 Thread Neil Loffhagen

Hi,

I got my logos for both CCNA and CCDA by email from Cisco after registering
on the galton cisco page.

http://www.galton.com/~cisco/

Once you have logged in properly, on the left of the page there is a "Cert
Progress" button, click on this and the next page has a "Get Logo" button.
Click this and the logos are emailed to you. It's not like the MCSE where
you can download them from the site.

When I requested logos for the CCDA I got send a second set of CCNA logos.

Hope this helps you get them.

Neil.

Maria,

It may be disheartening to be the only woman in a class of +25 men, but keep
at it. Be a leader and set the pace yourself - don't let the thought that
there may not be too many other women in the WAN workplace. I don't work it
that area as yet - so may be talking out of hand, but again I'd say be a
leader and show that sex has no deal in how good a person can be at WAN
technology.

Have a look at www.addall.com where you can compare book prices to find the

Re: CCDA Preparation Guide ?

2000-05-18 Thread Neil Loffhagen

Hans,

The below link is a good start and it's freely available on the web. Try it
out. Some say it's all you need, but not that I'd agree with that, though
if you've plenty of experience it may suffice.

An excellent book is Top-Down Network Design by Priscilla Oppeheimer

Neil.

Re: RFC table of contents

2000-05-12 Thread Neil Loffhagen

Hi,

Yes there is

http://www.ietf.org/ is the site you want. Just go to the RFC link and
type in the number of the RFC you want to look at. But maybe you actually
want to see a list of them by topic? Is so try the next link:

http://www.rfc-editor.org/rfc.html Here you can go to various sites for
RFCs. Here you can go and down load the entire index, etc.

RFCs are not as bad as some people make them out to be. Some good ones are
792 (ICMP), 2001 (TCP windowing), and 2196 (Site Security).

Happy reading.

Neil.
