This is amusing (from the userguide) --

* Support for Cisco Secure PIX Firewall platforms that run Release 6.0
and above.

Any idea when 6.0 might debut?

Thanks

RE: CCSI? Help

2001-04-09 Thread Pickard, Richard

4/9/2001 3:33pm Monday

I teach a 40 hour CCNA class @ a local provider here in the Chicago
suburbs & can assure you there are plenty of teachers out there
(including me) who do not have the scores or time to achieve CCSI.
I feel like I do a great job with my students based on

1] their response
2] my experience with the CCNA, CCNP, & CCIE written
3] my own REAL WORD day job experience

If I had the CCSI I would probably be working for Cisco [or recently
laid of by Cisco]

I checked into a this myself & the "generally" local Prometrics require
a
test teach, pass-able resume outlining real world experience @ your
cert.
level, & @ least (can't remember the figure) either 80 to 90% score (per
category) on the cert you are teaching. The CCSI is if you intend on
becoming a Cisco trainer, but not required just to teach the Cisco
topics
(in a majority of places). I gathered this information by checking a
handful of offices here in DC. I'm sure it's not 100% for every area,
but I
know many of places do not have CCSI trainers (with the exception of
Global
Knowledge & maybe some of the Cisco Network Academy's). I was turned
off a
little by the Network Academy approach, mainly because their
requirements
seemed so far off from real world. A lot of the requirements to teach
the
CCNA topics are based away from the actual exam itself (wiring a patch
panel, how a CO is set up, etc.). One of the fellows @ a Prometric said
they require a minimum of the N+ to sign up for the class. In this
respect,
you shouldn't have to carry the student through the first few
sections...

Good question, I'm awaiting more replies...
Phil

PIX and Windows 2000 [7:4163]

Has anyone heard that there are compatibility problems between PIX &
Windows 2000?

RE: Poll for those with Cisco Certs [7:6674]

2001-05-31 Thread Pickard, Richard

I got the A+ first (1996 or whatever a tough test) then MCSE, then all
the Nortel certs NNCSS & NNCSE
The Nortel advanced IP test is just as tough as the CCIE written. I
finished the CCNP four months ago.
I think Nortel's stuff works just a good as Cisco's. I am on site
installing one or the other most of the time.

Hello all. I was just wondering how many, if any, of you that
have
Cisco certifications also have certifications from other vendors, like
Nortel. If you do have others, could you tell a little about if you got
them before or after your Cisco and why?

In general, does the group see a benefit to getting certs from other
vendors
or does that detract from the "Cisco only" mentality that some employers
look for?

Thanks!

2001-06-08 Thread Pickard, Richard

John, I did not ask the original question but I feel your answer is
right on.

I purchased 3 2600's, a 2500, a cat 1924, 3 Nortel/Bay routers, & 8
laptops on ebay before the .bomb
I am thinking of getting 4 more 2600's to get ready for the CCIE lab.
The only other way to get stuff really cheap is to work for one of the
small telco installing stuff & wait for them to go belly up. My buddy
did that & he walked away with 4 Cisco routers when the chapter 11 & the
pink slips rolled out.

Hi

Ebay is still the primary end market for used Cisco gear. But much of
what
you see there from regular sellers are bought at auctions (not the
online
kind) and the like. With all of the dot bombs of late there are quite a
few
auctions that one can attend, and sometimes you can find a very good
deal.

I doubt you will find a 3920 in a public auction, but you never know...
Cat
5K are there all the time, same with access routers, and even core
routers.
Check your local paper for auctions.

Bay/Nortel has some excellent freeware for this.
It is called BNFS95 & can be found on their web site. It does not

I've heard of devices that attach to your laptop that will format the
PCMCIA
cards and load images on them. Someone stated that Comp USA had this
device
but I'm not sure. If you find something let the forum know. I would be
interested in knowing.

Look in the NANOG archives. Seems like I remember a similar discussion
going
