Hello Gang - I am looking for 8 MB flash for 2501 & 2502. Can someone help

ebay. Either the shipping is way too high or the seller is not interested
to ship to Canada. Any help would be appreciated.

Flash Upgrade Q's [7:1400]

2001-04-20 Thread RamG

Hello Gang - Hope some1 can help me on this. I am trying to upgrade ios.
Following is the detail when command copy is issued.

R2501#copy tftp flash
You cannot copy to Flash address space while running code from it.
The procedure below can be used to do the copy by reloading and
using the ROM-based bootstrap image.
Refer to the product documentation for a detailed description.
1. Save the system configuration (using 'write mem') if necessary.
2. Type in 'config term' to enter configuration mode.
3. Enter 'config 0x2101' to set the soft configuration register.
4. Enter '^Z' to exit configuration mode.
5. Enter 'reload' command to reload the system.
6. If you have a remote Telnet connection, terminate it, give the
router some time to reload, then reconnect.
7. Enter 'enabled' mode and execute the copy command.
8. Repeat steps 2 to 6 above, but this time in step 3, enter
   'config 0x2102'.

Followed above procedure. Returned with this error.

R2501(boot)>enable
Password:
R2501(boot)#copy tftp flash
ERR: Device in READ-ONLY state

What command to use to change the flash to READ/WRITE state.

Beware of VINCENT CHONG [7:1631]

2001-04-23 Thread RamG

Hello Gang

Just want to keep you all informed on the board not to deal in any form of
TRADE {CCIE Material }or BUYING accessories from VINCENT CHONG. I had a bad
experience today. We had entered into an agreement to trade CCIE materials.
I sent him soft copy of my materials and requested him to make hard copy of
his material. The price for hard copy of his material was mutually agreed
at USD.22. I sincerely sent him the money through pay pal. To my surprise
he has declined accepting the money and is not interested to send the
material. Like a KID he sent me this reply Quote "I will send back your
material and I do not want to trade anymore. I will removed from my hard
disk." Is this the way CHINESE behave. Surprised.

This is not a complaint. Beware of this GUY - VINCENT CHONG.

Hello Gang

Don't want to waste the bandwidth. This will be my last response on this
subject.

Solution Lab price as quoted by Vincent is true, but it was not part of the
trade. He showed interest and I quoted the price. The photo copying of
435 Pages & postage is costing way more than my quote. Hence, I revised the
price. I repeat Solution Lab was not part of the trade.

It is startup-config info. I tried changing ring speed to 4 & later to 16
to see it could fix the problem. Changing the ring speed did not do any
good.

Thanks to I & others for the feedback. Learnt that different ios can show
different output in show ver. I was curious to find out is something wrong

Re: TR Int Errr [7:6112]

2001-05-29 Thread RamG

I have TWO routers with TR interface - 2502/2504. I am using IBM MAU.
Connected both the routers TR int to MAU port 1 & 2. Router 2504 TR Int is
up and running fine. I am having problem with 2502. There is no fault on
MAU. What else could be the problem? I even changed ring speed on 2502.
Yet it is still initializing and protocol is DOWN. I even tried changing
media filters. Still no luck in troubleshooting. I am worried is my TR int
gone for good, if so, then I will have to report the defect to the seller
ASAP. Would appreciate any help.

Re: Troubleshooting question? [7:7763]

IMO it is not possible to clear the lab without sufficient exposure to
various tech. You would be better off spending the lab money on short
training course and get equipped with all that is required to pass the lab
on first attempt.

TR Error [7:8554]

2001-06-14 Thread RamG

I have 2 routers {2502 & 2504}. Both TR are connected to ANDREW MAU 8228.
I am unable to bring up the interface. I tried setting ring speed to 4 & 16
but unsuccessful. I am using black box LT 056A Media Filters.

I did check the archives. Mr. Vincent Chong faced similar problem on 29th
March 2001 but there was no solution posted at the archive. This is what I
found - Problem fixed. Just follow Cisco recommendation and it works.
Would appreciate, if he can share whatever info he was referring too. Msg
being copied to VINCENT CHONG for help.

What is meant by wrong idb state? I see this in debug event output

Following is the interface & debug events output.

Re: TR Error [7:8554]

2001-06-15 Thread RamG

Hello Friends - Its me again with TR problem. I tried each router
individually with different media filters. Still unsuccessful in getting
the int up. I ran through Cisco site with the error code - idb state. That
is what I found. Can someone tell me what kind of media filters, I should
use. I have a strong feeling it is the media filter causing the trouble.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cisco site search feedback: On Error code idb state:

Error Message: %TR-3-BADSTART Unit [dec], Start completion and wrong idb
state -state= [dec] %TR-4-BKGND Unit [dec], bkgnd int: last packet out

[dec], get_config failed, result 0x[hex] 0x[hex]

Explanation:

The Token Ring interface contains firmware that is incompatible with the
system software.

Recommended Action:

Call Cisco Systems to upgrade the Token Ring Monitor firmware and/or the
system software.

I don't have maintenance contract with Cisco. It's my home lab that I am
trying to fix.

Thanks Circusnuts. Problem solved. The interface connection was wrong
between the routers.

By the way can someone clarify on this one - Is it wrong to connect Serial 0
of Router A to Serial 1 of Router B. I did come across this problem while
playing on my home lab with rip configuration.

Re: RIP Update [7:8897]

Thanks John. Y'day night I played around by connecting the interface vice
versa. It works. You are correct. I have noted your clockrate comment
which I will implement when I purchase 2522.

Re: Five-in-one synchronous serial [7:10312]

2001-06-28 Thread RamG

Can we not use 2523 which also has 10 serial ports like 2522. I am planning
to buy 2523 to connect 2501/02/03/04 & 2511 serial ports to 2523 using
DTE/DCE cables. Would that be possible or not. Any comments from the group
would be appreciated.

Your advise pls! [7:60327]

2003-01-04 Thread RamG
Hello Group,

I finished NP/DA in Oct 2000. Since then, I have been looking for job in
networking. I know my drawback for being unsuccessful. It is my past
experience {as Accountant} and real world experience with Cisco routers. In
order to get some experience, I had setup 5 router home lab and gained
little experience by practicing / solving lab exercise from Satterlee book.
Even that did not help me to get entry level positions. The job market in
Toronto is so bad that, I am unable to find Tech support job too.

Now it is time for me to recertify {Oct}. What should, I do? I have
already spent a lot of money on books/routers. I cannot spend any more on
books/routers. Any advise appreciated.

 / RamG

Re: Your advise pls! [7:60327]

2003-01-09 Thread RamG
Thanks to the advise of Mr. Howard & Mr.Kaminski. My recertification date
are due at end of this year. Since the IT market all over the globe is very
bad and it is my feeling it will take a while till 2004 to stabilize. As a
result, I have decided to spend valuable time preparing for Nov 2003 CPA.
Trying to upgrade my skill depending on the market requirement. That does
not mean, I will give up my cisco recertification. I will eventually
recertify and will keep looking for entry level opening within Toronto. I
still have my home lab to play around which does not meet the current CCIE
lab specification, however, good the NP/DA recertification.
