Re: Phone Interview with Cisco

2000-10-07 Thread Scott Jordan

I've had this question several times today. So I will post it to the
group, possibly someone can get benefit from it. Sorry but I can't/won't
disclose their specific screening/interview questions. This would make the
process invaluable to Cisco.
The technical interview lasted just short of an hour. It was broken
into multiple parts, the last two areas I was able selected out of six
possible. Some questions were quick and easy "what is" test questions.
Some were "explain the process of". Many questions were on area's I lightly
breezed over during my studies.
Never think these protocols/architectures are dead or not important:
AppleTalk, SNA, IS-IS, DECnet, DSLw, IPX/SPX. And of course a person can
always expect questions on: RIP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, SR/T, SR/TLB, Frame
structures, Switching, Similarities/differences between protocols, etc.
This might not have been much help, but about as far as I can go
explaining the interview questions. I had a fair knowledge of most
subjects, just wish I had paid more attention to weak areas since the
interviewer seemed to find them all.
The interviewer I had was great. He was helpful in explaining the
question and even prompting a bit when I had no idea what he wanted.
All-in-All I feel the process is a fair method of weeding folks out.

Good luck in your studies.

Phone interview with Cisco

2000-10-07 Thread Scott Jordan

Just had a phone interview/screening with
Cisco. What a truly humbling experience. I have made it past the
CCIE written and have some experience, butI must say tonight I
feltlike Ihad just picked up the Introduction to Cisco Routers
(CCNA) book for the first time. Seemed like I knew SubjectA but they asked
SubjectB. How horrific!

It's back to the books and in a heavy way.
Passing the test and surviving an interview are two very different monsters
indeed.

Good luck to all.

Re: Would you back-burner your CCIE training for...

2000-09-14 Thread Scott Jordan

I am pressing hard for my CCIE certification however would value the chance
to work for such a company for several reasons.

1. The challenge - realize and enjoy your achievements through life
experience
2. The opportunity to excel - See comments on #1
3. High paced, hands on work - don't get as much as I would like
4. CCIE certification will be valid for a long time to come, why rush, do
it right the first time!

I can think of many more reasons but as one employer once said "slow down
and get there faster" rings true. I'll take experience over certification
in a heartbeat. Of course that is just me, I'm US Airforce retired, secure
with finances and not really aiming at "the big paycheck". Personally I
enjoying challenges and rewards for a job well done. This same philosophy
kept me motivate through 21 years service in the military.

But that just me.

Im very envious of all you people that have jobs with labs and lab time
(or
at least after hours availability). Frankly, if I had a job like that,
there would be no way I would take this Pre IPO job that Mr Thomas is
describing. I work for an SBC affilliate, so I can only hope that the
upper
management from SBC have finally taken the red pill.

It sounds like a fabulous opportunity to me. I have no problems with
jumping in to heavy workloads as long as I have support. Since I dont
lose
my CCIE studying, its not that big of a loss to me.

Hello all =) I have been working on a search for the PreIPO company that I
emailed about last week and I found out something yesterday that I didn't
know about. Since the company wants to go public by the end of this month,
the workload with this company will be heavy for all, especially for the
engineers. It's already heavy because that's the way it goes with any
startup company. But anyhow, the case is the my candidate will not be able
to study for his CCIE for a while. He will have a lot of hands on with
Cisco
solutions, but no time for additional training for the first year. The
trade-off however, is stock options and what they most likely be worth.
The
company is going public the end of this month. The upper management team
were the upper management from companies like Nortel, Bay, Ascend, Cisco,
SBC and other power-house organizations. They were founded in 98 and
already
raised 95M in VC funding. They strong partnerships with other
organizations
in the industry. Just a lot of other details involved as well.

My question to all is, would you back burner your CCIE training for a
while
for a chance of the options which you'll know the value of in a short
amount
of time, or would you rather pass because CCIE is a must, ASAP?

 God bless to all =)

OK, this is the 2nd time that I've flunked this test. The thing that
really
gets me is that I actually checked my answers 3 times and felt highly

1st question What does that survey at the beginning have to do with
determining your score? I mean if you answer low or something does that
 help you?

2nd Question Who else hates the ** test?

 Thanks for your input.
