I just want to work on my basic concepts of networking and for that I need
the name of some valuable books. I am no more interested in studying
CCNA,CCNP books as I have already studied those books. I hope you can
understand my point. I just want my base as strong as possible and then
gradually move towards advance networking stuff. My ultimate aim is to be a

You mentioned that And to learn how protocols really work, the must have

2002-05-01 Thread a. ahmad

dear Ping,

Actually users come on Tigress Access Server and after aunthtication they
are directed to Proxy M/C (transparent proxy is being used) and then traffic
finally goes to router. This is the simple description of the topology.

 + ... + .+
 Access-Server Proxy Server Router

We just want that no user should go directly to Router in either case.
Router should only receive traffice from Proxy server. Actually some users
are directly hitting our router and hence our Bandwidth gets chocked. We
want to eliminate it.

My Manager will come after some time and then I'll also get configuration
from him and paste it here.

Thank You,
Ahmad

Re: OSPF: Master / Slave relationship

2001-01-16 Thread ahmad

Hi ,

I agree with priscilla , but doesnt this master/slave relationship change
after the slave had sent its dd packets to the master then the master
becomes slave and sents the dd packets?

can you send me the report of ur sniffer priscilla cause i havent yet been
able to see this besides books
Priscilla Oppenheimer [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote in message
[EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]...
I don't think the master/slave business is related to DR and BDR. It has
to
do with neighbor adjacency and establishing the protocol for exchanging
the
 link state database.

After initializing, two neighbors establish bidirectional communication
and
then enter the ExStart state. In this state, the routers establish a
master/slave relationship and determine the initial database description
 (DD) sequence number.

At first both neighbors will claim to be the master by sending an empty DD
packet with the Master/Slave (MS) bit set to one. The neighbor with the
lower Router ID will become the slave and will reply with a DD packet in
which the MS bit is zero and the DD sequence number is set to the master's
sequence number. This DD packet is the first one with actual data, that
is,
 LSA summaries.

The routers then know who is the master and who is the slave and enter the
Exchange state where they synchronize their link state databases.

When I first looked at all of this on a Sniffer I was pleasantly surprised
to discover how complicated it is! ;-) It's a little like a TCP 3-way
 handshake.

 Priscilla

 Hello all,

Or is it only used on Point-to-Point links, which don't elect DR BDR?

hi ,

actually i have a question ,why are vlan used and what are its advantages
cause this has me confused.
if we make vlans what is the technical advantage ,if its limiting broadcasts
then subneting and using switch makes it possible,if it is security how is
it secure as vlans still are able to comunicate via routers or in case of
layer 3 switch.
is it true that vlans have advantage only in lan's or using layer 2 no ip

Re: 1600 password recovery

2001-01-08 Thread ahmad bilal

hi there ,

this happens maybe ur emulator is not working properly and isnt transmiting
break sequence to the router try reinstalling it or try it with some other
machine.
try break+f5 or shift+f5
or follow this

This is useful if your terminal emulator doesn't support the break key, or
if a bug prevents it from sending the correct signal (the hyperterminal
under Windows NT used to suffer from this behavior):
Connect to the router with the following terminal settings:
1200 baud rate
No parity
8 data bits
1 stop bit
No flow control

You will no longer be able to see any output on your screen. This is normal.
Reload the router and press the spacebar for 10-15 seconds. This generates a
signal similar to the break sequence.
Disconnect your terminal and reconnect with a 9600 baud rate. You should now
be in ROM Monitor mode.

the
best way to implement EIGRP in this scenario? My thoughts were to run
EIGRP
over the frame, set up the dialer interface / bri as a passive interface,
and use floating static routes (static route with higher administrative
 distance for ISDN backup)

The Cisco 3620 router boot up as the above prompt "rommon 1 "

Is it because the IOS image is gone? or is it because I typed something
at the boot up process and make it to be like this?

 In this prompt,
How can I check what IOS image my router is having now?
and how can I download IOS image, in case that the IOS image is
corrupted, to router? Previously I used "copy tftp flash" in the normal
prompt. What command to use in this rommon prompt?

 Thanks in advanced

 Hubert
