RE: copy tftp flash on 2501

2000-11-29 Thread derek lewinson

apart from the possibility that one of your modules may be bad/incompatible,
25xx flash is configured to 'read-only' by default.
if you need to upgrade, erase or whatever you need
to change the register setting to get the router to boot
from rom rather than flash (0x2101), do what needs to be done and
change the register back to the original setting (0x2102).
'Show ver' will tell you what the register is currently set to.

I had similar "copy tftp flash" problem, except when I tried to use this
command I got the "read only file-system" message. I booted into the ROM
monitor and the command worked fine. Just a suggestion form a newbie to
this group.

I'm sorry, I am not all awake yet.

There are not that many sockets in the 2500 for flash memory, so let me
redo
 my reply.

It looks like the memory module you have (added) in the 2nd flash memory
socket is bad. Make sure it's compatible.

This looks like you have just added 4 extra memory modules in your router
 that is not compatible.

If you do a show flash, does it recognize the new memory, does it come up
with the original amount, or does it show errors?

RE: BCRAN Books

2000-11-28 Thread derek lewinson

my
study group is using BCRAN by Quiggle and Thomas - McGraw Hill (there are errors
but an errata is available from the authors)
also
Remote Access Study Guide by Buchmann et al (Syngress). They balance each
other quite well. You will find that one chapter
in
Quiggle maybe more detailed than Buchmann and vice versa. Quiggle is great
for"hands-on" (case studies and tips on how to hook up
a
BCRAN lab)memory-charts and exam-tips. Buchmann appears to be more
weighty but has a good layout for test prepping.
And
the book is supplied on the enclosed CD so you can pop it in ur pc
or laptop rather than break ur back with a ton-weight of
books!

Catalyst 2926: ANYBODY GOT ONE?

Is this true?
Also, can these things take an RSM/SP?

If so, I'd like one 'cos I gather they are a heck of a lot cheaper than a
CAT5xxx!

If you can supply me with one @ a good price, mail me!

from CCO:

Product Overview
The Catalyst 2926 Series delivers award-winning Catalyst 5000 family
performance in a compact chassis. The Catalyst 2926 is a
fixed-configuration, high-density, 10/100 autosensing Catalyst family member
that uses the same architecture and software as the Catalyst 5000. The
switch can deliver more than one million packets-per-second (pps) throughput
across a 1.2-Gbps media-independent backplane that supports Ethernet and
Fast Ethernet.

**

This switch is a fixed configuration so you won't be putting a RSM in.

I appreciate your issue on price but if you're thinking about a RSM then
price is probably no object!
(I would love a RSM for my Cat 5000.)

The few RSMs I've seen on eBay have easily gone for twice the used cost of a
Cat 5000!

The 2926 is also marked as EOL (End of Life) is that concerns you at all.

I thought SLP used something in the 10 or 20s range for the last octet.
HSRP uses 0100 5E00 0002 for the destination MAC address. Is this what ARP
is resolving?

Chuck

Jeff,
It is a Novell 5 Server. Think it may have
something to do with SLP protocol on this box using
the same multicast address 224.0.0.2

ISDN BRI: multilink PPP and 4 ISDN channels!

2000-10-06 Thread derek lewinson

Somebody, anybody, everybody, help!

Has any configured an ISDN BRI line ,aggregating more than 1 physical
interface (ie: 2 b channels)?
I have been tasked with aggregating a 256k ISDN BRI link over two ISDN
lines.
Details:
2 ISDN2 (128k total) Lines available @ a and b ends, different telephone
numbers on each line
(say a1:222-1234, a2:222-5678, b1:333-1234, b2:333-5678)
NM-4B-S/T module @ both ends
ethernet network either side of wan link
(say 192.168.1.0/24 and 192.168.2.0/24)

I know I need to use multilink ppp, create a rotary group and add the
i/faces into it, associate them with a dialer i/face etc...
The bit I'm stuck on is... do I need two or four IP addresses to address the
aggregated wan link? Or maybe two dialer maps
with two different destination numbers pointing @ the same ip address.

The end result is that I wish to 'bond' two physical interfaces to form a
256k link.

Any help, 'specially in the next 24hours, would be much appreciated.
It is for a client in Holland so the person who helps me the most will get a
souvenier from holland!
Sorry...won't be bringing anything illegal back!

Hope to hear from somebody, anybody, everbody soon!

I think my response was useful. There are to many on this list that expect
the rest of us to do their work for them. I have responded to
 many messages,
and have even provided documentation to some from my company's technical
resources. But when it is obvious that someone has not taken the time to
look into the subject that they expect the rest of the list to do

for them, well I have a problem with that.

I have asked question on this list though not often, but when I do it is
only after I have exhausted all avenues. I do not post if I have not first
tried to figured things out on my own. That is how it is suppose to be. If
you have a computer and can access the internet then there is nothing to
stop you from doing research except yourself.

If you want to hold peoples hand that's fine.
