Also i am not able to ping the proxy server.
Sitting on the PIXI am able to ping inside as well as outside, even the
Proxy server. Also outside hosts are able to reach the host 216.6.24.130.

Can someone pls throw some light on this as to where i am going wrong or i
am missing on some command.

Ur kind help will be appreciated a lot.

Thanxs Rgds,
Avi.

Im currently going over the routing class so i can practice for my ccie . I
know its a good review and will help me have a more solid understanding of

working maybe im missing something.
my setup is the following

   backbone router---s1-r1

   | |
   | |
   r4r2
   | |
   | |
   r3

now i enable igrp 200 for all the router
the serial links for r4 and r2 are in 10.0.0.0 network
and the serials for r3 and r2 and 192.168.0.0 network. whe i do a ip route
in backbone router for 192.168.X.x i get network not in table ? why?n if i
am advertising it should't the other routers show it whithin their routing
tables i have the running config
if that helps

I can ping from r3 to r4 however after but unable to get the backbone router
same applies to the r2
i have on backbone router
igrp 200
network 10.0.0.0
network 192.168.0.0

how come if all the routers are running the same routing protocol i cant see
the 10.0.0.0

2002-04-04 Thread george gittins

I check the wireless access point and it indicated that the pc is connecting
and associating , im not running any wep keys
or authentication. However like i said the message when i do a command
prompt is cable disconnected? under the aironet client utlity it shows that
im associated. im desperate what now

Assuming you are talking about a PC card in a laptop, WIN2000 should not
have a problem with the adapter. The message about no link is an indication
the SSID and/or encryption are not configured the same as the access point.

The next time this happens sh sessions from the cli look for the session
number that corresponds to the host in question. type the session number
only the session should reconnect. you can run disconnect (session number)
to clear the session. Or for ease of use configure ip hosts ip host port
loopback address.

Hi all,

My boss just come up and give me a senario question like this. He told me
that I owned a company which uses 3 different LANs, for example,
172.27.10.x, 172.27.11.x, 172.27.12.x. But I only have one cisco 2600 series
router and 2900 series switch. I can't use the serial ports from the router.
Just the two ethernet ports (by default). My question is, is it possible?
Please advice.

Thanks

Ricky

FW: A Review of Hello Computers workbook for CCIE [7:37041]

Subject: A Review of Hello Computers workbook for CCIE secu [7:34507]

Hello Computers recently published their Lab Workbook for Cisco CCIE
Security Lab Exam Preparation. Keyur Shah from Hello Computers, Inc. asked
me for feedback on the workbook. I decided to share my feedback with Group
Study. The workbook is a great learning tool and a lot cheaper than buying
equipment yourself. The lab rental service seems well run with good
customer service.

The workbook is available from Hello Computers or from CertificationZone. I
did not receive compensation for this review. I have done work for
CertificationZone in the past, but they did not know about this review.

The workbook consists of sixteen labs that cover all the topics in the CCIE
security lab test. The workbook costs $645 and includes 24 hours of remote
lab rack access. It's worth the money. The labs are well-written and easy
to follow, but challenging. The rack implements a complex network of 10
routers connected via Frame Relay, ISDN, Ethernet, and ATM; a Catalyst 5500
switch; and various security devices, such as PIX boxes, two Sun
workstations with Solaris 8, and some NT servers that handle TACACS, TFTP,
syslog, and so on.

Hello Computers has been in the IT training business since 1996. They seem
to be a robust and innovative company. Because they have had a few years in
this business, they have had a chance to implement some new training
technologies, such as distance learning and virtual labs. (With a WebEx
player, you can actually attend an audio class remotely and see the
configurations input by the instructor.)

One of the best features of their service is the Live Person chat that you
can open with tech support while doing a lab. I managed to gum up the
Terminal Server (due to my ignorance not any fault of theirs! ;-) I started
the chat and was immediately connected to someone who helped me.

The CCIE Security workbook consists of four full-scale 100-point labs and
twelve labs of 50 points each. The 100-point labs have instructions on all
topics, whereas the shorter labs concentrate on a subset of topics. Each
lab is divided into 5 sections:

1. Routing with EIGRP, RIP, OSPF, and BGP; switching with VLANs; and PIX
fundamentals

2. Tasks aligned with the Managing Cisco Network Security (MCNS) class,
such as avoiding DOS attacks, etc.

3. Advanced PIX

4. VPNs and IPSec

5. Intrusion Detection System

Every lab has tips (hints) at the end. The workbook also comes with a CD
that has initial configs such as IP addresses and other basic
configurations that you might not want to waste your time on. The CD also
includes solutions for each lab. The solutions have some minor mistakes,
but Hello Computers plans to publish updates on their Web site.

The lab network diagrams are in color and are laminated. Since I used them
a lot, I was grateful for their sturdiness. Also the lamination means that
you can write note on the diagrams with a dry erase marker.

The first step in every lab tells you to redraw the network diagram. This
is good advice. The network design is quite complex and more convoluted
than typical real-world networks. Group Study readers have heard about my
concerns regarding the OSPF virtual link and discontiguous Area 1. ;-) But
I guess those are things you need to know for CCIE.

I was confused at first that all sites in the internetwork are connected
to the same Catalyst switch. Obviously this wouldn't be the case in the
real world and perhaps that should be pointed out to people new to CCIE
labs. Also, perhaps the labs would be more real-world if they specified why
the customer wants all these complex features enabled. But this sort of
additional information wouldn't help one prepare for CCIE, so I don't
consider the lack of it a major fault. It's just my design bias showing.

In summary, this is a classy product and service. I recommend it.

Oops, typo alert.

The Global statement should read:

Well, if I understand your question correctly, you want to have a specific
subnet always get the same external address ?

Nat (inside) # 10.20.30.0 255.255.255.0
Global (outside) # a.b.c.d 255.255.255.0

# = unique number that is not used already on your PIX. Most people use 1 as
the first group. Just pick a number that is unique and apply it to both the
NAT statement for the inside address's and the Global outside address that
they get. That is how the NAT is associated with the specific global
statement.

A.b.c.d is our outside address that they always get.

10.20.30.0 255.255.255.0 is the inside network(s) that get translated. If
you want to add multiple internal networks to that specific global address,
then you only net to add additional NAT statements using the same unique
identifier (#).

Thanks

Larry

After you remove the subif and do a write mem does the startup-config
still shows the subif? If it does, I would tftp the config to a file, edit
the file and tftp it back to the router and reload.

Just a guess.

In general, I believe that when you delete a subinterface (at least on
serial lines) the subinterface won't go away until you reboot the router.

Here to place traffic shaper [7:34690]

2002-02-06 Thread george gittins

hi there i have a quick question regarding my network, We recently purchase
a packeteer packet shaper and a web caching server. now im perplex as to
where place this two boxes
a simple outline of my existing network is below.
|2900 switch and sniffer
 internet---tiarabox---e1---2513--e0pixethernet---7513
 dmz(e-mail|lan
   dns)

from there a ls1010 connection to the rest of the campuses, all the campuses
are using their in house proxy server from microsoft.
I was thinking in placing the traffic shaper betweent the 2513 and the tiara
box
so can control and implement policies . and place the web caching server
between the 7513 and the pix where i have already a switch and a sniffer
picking up exiting traffic, and start caching those web sites...as they
leave the network.
I apologize for my drawing, any help will do!!
thanks

access-list 1 deny ip 10.1.0.0 255.255.0.0 host X.X.X.X
 access-group 1 in interface inside
once i apply it i lose outside connectivity
I imagine that the same rules apply as routers a explicit deny at the end
so i would have to place a allow ip any any
at the end right?
well what if im creating another access-list 2 for example too should i
also have to place another allow statement?
any particular links refering to this issue would be greatly apreaciated

Have you tied the TCP/IP stack to the Wireless PCCard??

1. Check the local loop-back address: ping 127.0.0.1 if this doesn't work
then check if there is a IRQ conflict with the PC-Card drivers/hardware

2. Check the IP node address: ping x.x.x.x (where x.x.x.x is the IP address
of your node)

3. If DHCP doesn't work, check that the BOOTP (UDP on port 67) is
forwarding from the 340 access point on to the LAN
(not familiar with 340 setup, but treating it like any other network
device!)

4. Check gateway address for subnet

etc. etc.

If your using this in a production environment, then may I suggest you have
a read of the following article:

Let's us all know how you get on...

Which version of PIX code are you running?

5.x syntax would be:

access-list outbound deny ip 10.3.0.0 255.255.0.0 216.136.131.71

I'd also ask you to reconsider naming your access list 'outbound' if you're
applying it to the 'inside' interface - I did the same thing, but it can be
VERY confusing. Wait until you accidentally apply it to the 'outside'
interface - deleting the existing access list...

I have been in the networking business for 7 years and have worked at both
consulting companies and in-house at businesses. I prefer consulting. I
travel at most 1 every 3 months and usually 1 night/2day. I work for a
Chicago based company, but I am in Springfield, IL, the State Capitol. I
have been at the same customer for 3 years. When I need a break I call me
boss and say find me a project and I go to Chicago for a couple of days.
This works really well keeping me up to date on new technology.

At a previous company, the boss walked in one day and said You are going on
the road for a major bank. I was gone 3-4 weeks a month in some places like
South Dakota, Nebraska, Montana. This project lasted 4 months, when it was
over we were laid off.

I still prefer consulting, because I get more exposure to new technology.
When I worked for non-consulting companies, I tended to install things and
then watch it run for 6 months. I got real bored.

When interviewing with consulting companies find out what they expect for
travel. Somewhere like Chicago you could work 100% of the time in the
greater Chicago area. Other times you will be flying around the company.
What do you want? What do they expect??

used for signaling. how many analog dialup will it take 23? i imagine that
isdn willl only take 23, but those this apply to analog as well?.
Some users using mrtg are monitoring 46 modems for one pr1.so can a pri take
46 modems ?

Vlan Question? [7:22276]

2001-10-05 Thread george gittins

Hello gang i have a question that invloves intervlan routing. let me
explain what i want to accomplish and see if this is possible.

this is a simple layout of my local lan

 one campus connected -2900
switchtransiver--fiber---fiber--cat5--35000xl--7513-.

I disconnected the cat 5 that was connected to the 3500 and ran it
straight into the 7513
where i had an extra ethernet port. my local lan is connected to another
fast ethernet port.
now that i connected to that 10mbs port the speed is slower, thats asumed,
however, i dont know if by creating a vlan on the 2900 switch with trunking
and on the 3500 switch i can route that seperate network ,campus 10.101.x.x,
to my network 10.200.x.x. by the way this campus was in the 10.200.x.x
network before. the idea was to split them up. but their backbone is now
10mbs.i was wondering if i could create a vlan2 for example with a separate
ip in the remote campus and , do intervlan in the 7513. currently my lan
here at the office all the switches are vlan 1.

any suggestions will help, and i dont know if i explain the design ok

 will this work

 remote campus-2900switch--transiver--fiber---transiver---3500xl--7513 with
subinterfaces 10.101.0.0with the existing
fast ethertnet port that i have

I need to get some feedback on the type of memory to put into a Cisco
equipment. Two of the most popular are Cisco memory and Kingston. Of
course Cisco is a lot more expensive than Kingston. Which memory do you
recommended getting and are there any issues with getting Kingston. By
issues I mean are there any known bugs, compatibility, etc.

Thanks.

I ran into an article that classifies napster traffic and you can limit the

traffic and from there implement a policy routing?

The easiest way is to create access-lists to block the authentication
servers (if applicable) or the site itself. Keep in mind that many large
sites own an entire subnet of IPs for load balancing so it may require more
than just the first IP you see when you ping by name.

If it's on a Microsoft network, Profiles can be activated to only allow
specific applications to run. Disallowing setup.exe can be very
discouraging to users as well ;)

PIX can block ActiveX content as well.

Lastly, but probably most importantly, usage conduct must be put into place
 made known to all users.

Did you notice that they want 3-6 years experience in High Speed
Networking as well. A CCIE below 3000 has well over 6 years experience.
They don't even know what they're asking for.

This is the first time that I've personally seen a recruiter target a
number
range for a CCIE job!!!

My question aloud is this -

With the impending CCIE #10,XXX coming by next year are we going to find
that there is going to be the perception that the higher your number the
less value to the customer/employer/client.

Of course, the headhunter/manager will never even comprehend that the CCIE
made today has a much broader range to cover as say the CCIE of 3 to 5
years
ago. NO, I NOT BASHING ANYONE JUST STATING A FACT.. :-)

DAMN! I knew I should not have procrastinated for the past year before
stepping up to the lab. I can just hear it now.

Me: Yes, I'm CCIE #xyz

Headhunter: Thank you, but we're looking for a CCIE from block #abc

I hope this does not become the quid pro quo among
managers/headhuters/recruiter or this could be a bad sign for the CCIE in
the long run.

PAID for a lab. Sounds good, I was just wondering if anyone on the list had
