Can I use any flash cards for routers/switches? [7:14231]
Has anybody ever had any experience using non-Cisco approved flash cards in routers/switches. I am not talking about flash DIMM's, but rather flash cards, like those on the Cat 5000 or the 7200. Anybody have any experience with products from Sandisk or any other flash card vendor? is it possible to mix and match flash cards? [7:2518]
For flash cards (i.e. Cat5000, 1750, 7000 series, etc.), can you just mix and match (for example, the a flash for a Cat5000 can be used on a 1750, etc.)? How about flash SIMM's (I don't think this is possible, but I have to ask)? Re: is it possible to mix and match flash cards? [7:2518]
There are a few places where you can mix flash but mostly you have to do it by trial and error. 7200 and 6500 flash cards are totally interoperable. Sometimes you can use a flash card from a different platform and reformat in the target platform and sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Flash SIMs are another story. I have gotten 3600 flash sims to work in a 2600 but only after a reformat. 2500 and AS5200 flash SIMs are the same. There are basicly 3 types of flash systems in Cisco routers: A, B, and C. If you look on the Doc CD under: IOS configuration, configuration fundamentals, File system commands, you will find all the differences and some platform interoperabliity. The part numbers without ='s are options to be added at purchase time. Re: CCNP flash cards on Palm Pilot
If you purchase the Sybex Study Guides by Todd Lammle they come with a CD that contains flash cards that can be run on the Palm pilot. It also has practice tests and the entire book on the CD. I'd recommend buying a copy, he's a good author. -- Original Message -- From: "Alexandre Carvalho" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: "Alexandre Carvalho" [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Tue, 28 Nov 2000 23:25:14 -0500 Hi All, Does anyone has flash cards regarding the CCNP tests to run on Palm Pilot?? Flash Cards
Dear All, I can't understand why cisco pcmcia flash card are so expensive even though the compatible products by others such as Kingston. Why cisco not consider using smart media or compact flash or even ATA flash? Does anyone know if there is any hardware restriction or it is solely for proprietary? PCMCIA Flash Cards.
Hi Guys, Does anyone know of a utility that would enable you to copy IOS images directly onto PCMCIA flash cards from a laptop? I know the formats are different for the 3600's, SupIII's etc.. Re: Cat5k/6k flash cards in a notebook
This was my experience... I have successfully written to these flash cards and used them as solid state hard-drives. There is however a problem... To use them in the notebook you have to reformat them first (which then prevents them being used in the Cisco - untill you reformat them again). The answer to your question is yes you can use the PCMCIA Flash in a laptop, but you cannot simply save the IOS image onto it and them put it back into the Cisco and expect it to work... Also different platforms seem to format the flash differently so you cannot put the flash into a 72xx, format and upload a IOS for a 71xx as moving the Flash into the 71xx reports that the Flash is not formatted correctly for the 71xx (as it was originally formatted on the 72xx). OT: Software to create flash cards
I'd like to create my own printed flash cards to study for the CCNP tests. My initial plan is that I'd like to use regular index cards with the questions printed on one side and the answers printed on the other. Do any of you have any suggestions for cheap (free) software that would make this a relatively easy task? I suppose that I could do it in Word, but it seems like that's the wrong tool for the job and would just make my life miserable. :-) any ideas?
