That thing is so full of errors it's not even funny. If you study that paper
you will surely fail any token questions.

It's what I spent this weekend starting to learn about. Bleh, I hate
old/dead technology that no one I know uses. I'm just glad it's off the
 lab.

I think it's time to purchase or find a good Token Ring overview book.
I've
read a lot of current docs from Cisco's site, but nothing that really goes
back to the beginning and gives a good foundation and good examples to
make
all this stuff stick in my head. I know a lot of it is just going to be
re-reading the docs and definitions a few times until it just sinks in,
but
often I can find books that do a better job of describing a subject and it
 speeds the process along.

 Any recommendations?

RE: CCIE Written tomorrow. [7:830]

2001-04-17 Thread Michael Bambic

Page 1:
Token ring is a physical ring and logical bus - it's a physical star and a
logical ring.
Page 5:
A value of "A" for length means 3 bridges. "A" would mean 5 bridge/ring
combos.
After reading those 2 very basic things I quit reading and went back to my
books/Cisco site.

Re: CCIE Written tomorrow. [7:830]

2001-04-16 Thread Jonathan Hays

What the two numbers have in common is Novell IPX.

0x8137 is the Ethernet protocol TYPE number for Novell IPX, from RFC 1700
(some sources
indicate 0x8137 is obsolete and 0x8138 should be used). It appears somewhat
regularly in
Cisco training material. IEEE 802.3 has a LENGTH field instead of TYPE, but
this number
could also appear in the IEEE 802.3 TYPE field in a 802.2 SNAP header.

0xE0 is the Novell IPX LSAP (Link Service Access Point) types which can be
used in
configuring access lists for source-route bridging. For some reason Cisco
morphs it into
0xE0E0 but the reason why surpasses my meager knowledge of Source-Route
bridging.

Jonathan.
