RE: Cisco VPN Software

2000-06-30 Thread Chris Larson

I am using 5.1(2) with VPN Client 1.1It works great and was terribly
easy to setup. Using IKE Config Mode I only had to issue 5 or 6 commands to
the PIX, setup the client and we were routing to the inside. Using config
mode with wildcard pre-shared keys simplifies things tremendously, and it
assigns the VPN client an IP address form a range I specifiy on the PIX.
Easy management and accounting.

Has anyone tried it? The cool thing about the 5.1 releases is the Xauth

RE: Cisco VPN Software

2000-06-30 Thread Chris Larson

From my understanding no. However the VPN 1.1 client is s much better
and for $180.00 for a hundred users why wouldn't you. Also, the 128 bit VPN
client is the same cost as the 56 buit and is compatible with the 56 bit. So
you might as well purchse the 128 bit even if you are only currently using
56 bit des on the PIX/Router.

Re: Cisco VPN Software

2000-06-30 Thread Christopher Larson

The Cisco client will is currently not supported on W2K. You can still use
W2k with a Cisco or PIX. What you need to do is configure L2TP on both the
W2k machine and the router/PIX. Then configure IPSEC on both ends to use the
L2TP tunnel. W2k has both in the os. Go to start/run and type mmc. Then you
need to add snapin or add-in I forget. Pick the IPSEC add-in and go from
there. L2TP or PPTP in W2K is setup via the dial up networking stuff.

RE: Cisco VPN Software

2000-06-29 Thread dfoss

err, yeah1.0a and 1.1. :) Sorry about the confusion. However, I did use
the 1.1 client with the 5.0.3 firmware with no problems. A few of the
problems I had with the 1.0 client were:

Slow authentication/tunnel creation times.
Inability to connect to more than two subnets at a time. (unfortunately I
have many leftover IP ranges in my network that I'm in the process of
cleaning up. I'm in the process of switching everything to a 10.x.x.x
addressing scheme).
Adequate but not speedy encryption which played havoc with WINS every so
often.
Minor stuff such as logging didn't work on the 1.0 client.

The 1.1 client fixed all of these problems. You have to admit that both of
them are simple to configure though. I'm getting ready to test the 3030 VPN
Access Concentratorlet me know if you have any questions about that one
and I'll try to test it out for you.
