RE: Cisco DTE/DCE Cable [7:58103]
Maybe you don't need to change your cable at all. DCE vs DTE is significant at layer 1 for clocking issues. There is also DCE DTE at layer 2 for Frame Relay purposes. The layer 1 DCE does not have to be on the same box as the layer 2 DCE. However if you really want another cable try Pacific Cable. > -Original Message- > From: Reza Sharifi [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Tuesday, November 26, 2002 7:46 AM > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: Cisco DTE/DCE Cable [7:58103] > > > I am looking for the pinouts for DB60 (DTE) to DB50 (DCE). > The cable is > configured as DB60 (DTE) to DB50 (DCE). RE: Cisco DTE/DCE Cable [7:58103]
Hi all, By the way, I have nothing to do with this seller. Just passing on a good site to those who are interested. Try this Web Address for Cisco Cables. I do not think that you will be able to beat this. http://www.anthonypanda.com This guy has an excellent reputation on eBay as a Power Seller, and I have bought cables myself recently from this site. I bought 3 * DB60V35 DCE 6 Feet cables @ 20 Dollars each and paid a total of 82 Dollars including postage (22 Dollars) from Hong Kong to the Netherlands. DB60 V35 DCE 6 Feet (3 Metres) Link = http://www.anthonypanda.com/product.php?prd_id=5&opt_id=22 I can recommend this site. He also has 3 Feet ( 1 Metre) DB60 Back to Back cables at 12 Dollars each, which is an absolutely great price. DB60 Back to Back Link === http://www.anthonypanda.com/product.php?prd_id=1&opt_id=2 If anyone else has some good sites, I think we would all like to hear about this. I am very pleased up to now myself. Regards, Brian. To answer your first question use the following: Watch the wrap. http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/access/acs_fix/cis2500/2501/ 2500ug/pin.htm Your second question shows a custom V.35 back-to-back cable complete with the Cisco logo. Cisco cables are manufactured by subcontractors. One in California is LoDanWest. (If you have a cable with the initials LDW on it - guess who made it?) LDW makes back to back cables for Cisco internal use. Neither LDW nor Cisco will sell you that cable. LDW will sell you a cable that is black rather than teal in color without the Cisco logo. RE: DTE-DCE Cable part number ?
Cisco does not sell a single cable that does back to back. You have two choices. (a) Buy one DTE cable and one DCE cable and mate them together. The result is 20 foot long which is great if your router lab covers the living room floor; but not so good if you have them stacked. (b) Buy a custom cable from one of several manufacturers. Two that come to mind are: http://www.stonewallcable.com and http://www.LoDanWest.com Contact at LoDan is Dale Tank 800-541-1001. Cable part numbers for a V.35 and prices quoted to me follow. 3' 997503M03 $59.52, 4' 997503M04 $60.08, 6' 997503M06 $61.20. (3' or 3 foot is approximately one meter.) The stonewallcable use teal colored cable (same as Cisco) and metal shell connectors. Delivery was within a week. LoDan uses black cable and molded connectors. Delivery was over three weeks. Note that LoDan manufactures cables for Cisco. They make the same cables in teal with the Cisco imprint on the connectors only for sale to Cisco. I've seen them in Cisco labs. Now if you like your cables long: You can do this with V.35 cables or RS-232 cables. You need one male DTE and one female DCE. "Billy Monroe" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I have done the configuration below. I can't ping my own S0 interface on R1. > R1---Frame Switch (R2)---R3 The reason why you cannot ping your own interface is related to how ARP works in a NBMA network environment. Frame Relay data-link layer addressing is provided by a DLCI and you never have a DLCI to yourself, which is why you are unable to resolve your own IP address to a DLCI in order to make a successful ping. You may, if you desire, make a static mapping to your local DLCI, although it is not necessary, nor is it important. Rather, reachability of a remote device is important. You should never ever need to resolve your own IP address, come to that, although you should be able to reach the IP address on the remote router serial interface, which should be resolved to a local DLCI number on your serial interface. The back-to-back configuration is entirely possible (and is moreover used in several Cisco courses) and requires the following configuration: R1 <-DCE cable-><-DTE cable-> R2 R1 ! Re: Help with Frame Relay over DTE/DCE cable
You can build a tiny frame cloud with two routers, I'm doing it now until I get my other two. (im using a 2502 with IOS 11.2 and a 2501 with IOS 12.0). What I do is : frame switch: frame-relay switching int interface encapsulation frame-relay ip address x.y.z.a mask frame-relay intf-type dce clockrate 100 frame-relay interface-dlci 100 I read that you don't use the interface-dlci command unless you have multiple dlci's on one physical connection (using subinterfaces), but if I dont do that, or a route statement, the dte router can't use inverse arp..neither router is aware of dlci numbers. Using this configuration, I can't ping my side of the dlci, but it doesn't seem to break anything.. Richard Holland CCNP,MCSE > Well Bob, are you trying to build this with only 2 routers? Re: Help with Frame Relay over DTE/DCE cable
Well Bob, are you trying to build this with only 2 routers? I am not sure you can do that... Typically it looks like this: R1---Frame Switch (R2)---R3 R2 (the frame switch) provides DCE to both R1 and R3. Set the clockrate on one of the switch interfaces. R2 needs the following: Frame Relay Switching enabled (frame-relay switching) DCE set on each interface (frame-relay intf-type dce) Clockrate configured (clockrate 56000) Frame Relay Route statements to announce DLCI's to each side and connect the R1 and R3 into a PVC. (frame-relay route 102 s0 201) R1 and R3 need: Frame Relay encapsulation on the serial interface that is connected to the switch. (encapsulation frame-relay) Optional: You may want to configure frame-relay map statments on R1 and R3 to turn off Inverse-Arp. This step is optional. You may also wish to configure the Frame Relay LMI type... If you are trying to configure only half of the connection, ie one router as DTE and one router as the switch, I don't think that this will work. You may see LMI going back and forth (debug frame lmi), but I don't think so. You certianly will not see the interface stay up because the PVC is not complete. I have not tried to configure the switch to route right back out the same interface (frame-relay route 102 s0 102) to see if it will receive frames on s0 and send them out on s0 too, but I don't think it is legal to do this... You may need to get a 3rd router to make this work (if you do not alreay have one.) I hope this helps... I have done the configuration below. I can't ping my own S0 interface on R1. Bob, could be a couple of things. Help with Frame Relay over DTE/DCE cable
I am trying to configure Frame Relay over a DTE/DCE cable, but even with a clock rate set on the DCE side, and frame relay switching configured on one of the routers, and the int on the switch configured as a interf-type DCE, I am still always getting it to go up for a second on reload, but then it drops again right away, and the line protocol goes down. can someone please help me with this?
