HP OpenView and CISCO

2000-10-23 Thread Cristi Piatnitchi

Hi all

I am working with HP Openview (not HP NNM). I don't understand why my
routers (they haven't been discovered by HPOV) are still blue. I put these
routers manually on my map, I set up pooling interval properly but they are
still blue (the color of their icons) instead of being green red or yellow.
They respond at ping or SNMP queries but no status information (usually blue
color means no info in HP OV)

Any idea?
Thanks in advance

Have you loaded the Cisco-specific MIBs? Also, have you selected any filters
which may prevent HPOV from seeing the routers?

I've set up HPOV (NNM) several times and have seen this behavior. If you
*don't* select filters, HPOV will poll EVERYTHING, such as telling you that
someone's laptop is down. By selecting the right filters you can tell the
software to just report on "essential" nodes.

My experience is with Network Node Manager. For NNM, to select a filter, go
to "Options", "Network Polling Configuration" and from the "Genreal" tab
click the "Use Filter" checkbox and select "Routers" from the drop-down list.

Hi all

Thanks for your answers

1) I asked for one of my friends who has an old version (HPOpenView with 100
nodes- it is a Window 9x version) I know that the name of the new product is
HPNNM and there are no problems with these routers. We tested it on demo
version from HP Site.
2) The routers have no HSRP.
3) The problem also appears also for other kind of nodes (passive nodes)

Waiting for new suggestions

HPOV NNM has a filter file, you would add a "discovery filter" to that file,
and then configure NNM to use that filter. Kinda like an access list.
(sorta)

you can filter on all kinds of different attributes.
node type
ip address
node name

some companies (like one I know very well) use an inclusive filter and tell
NNM exactly which nodes they want to manage.

I'd love to go on, if you want to continue this discussion off line...

Or... .there is an email list server call OVFORUM that this would be better
suited for.

Are you able to get to the mib? Can you see NICs of router? You may use
ovsnmpwalk to check snmp connectivity.
