IPX Problem [7:42735]

2002-04-27 Thread Ali, Abbas

I have a network where corporate is connected to 3 branch offices through
Point to Point. The branch office are also connected together in a full
mesh frame-relay toplogy as a backup. The corporate office is also
connected to few other small branches in a hub and spoke frame-relay
topology. I was running IPX RIP by default between those networks and
response time between IPX hosts and servers was not really bad. I decided
to make some more changes to decrease the latency by configuring IPX eigrp
between WAN Links only and left RIP on LAN interfaces. Instead of
decreasing the latency it increased it by 4 times. Before EIGRP I copied a
file and it took about 20 seconds. Now it's taking almost 4 minutes. I am
curious where I went wrong.

All I did to enable IPX Router eigrp 2
advertised all my WAN networks.

network
network and so on.

I then removed those WAN networks from RIP routing by

IPX router rip
no network
no network and so on.

Note: I am also running EIGRP 1 for IP network. I don't think that it will
conflict since both have under different Autonomous systems.

Any suggestions folks.

Regards,

Ab

Re: IPX Problem [7:42735]

2002-04-27 Thread Chuck

did anything else change? I ask because on the surface, everything is fine.
IPX EIGRP should have no effect on your throughput. I ran an eight site dual
homed IPX network for several years, with no WAN issues other than the usual
telco related problems. I've done numerous labs.

the so called AS numbers in EIGRP are not relevant. IPX and IP are different
router processes, and there is no conflict there.

are you seeing all routes in all router's tables? got a loop in there
somewhere? accidentally shut down some interfaces? got a telco problem that
occurred coincidentally? checked your interface counters, your process
counters? done some debugs while doing the file transfers?

Re: IPX Problem [7:42735]

2002-04-27 Thread Priscilla Oppenheimer

Did you know you can do trace route with IPX on Cisco routers? It's not
just an IP thing.

I suggest you try this. Maybe you caused some weird routing somehow. Your
network sounds sort of complicated and non-hierarchical. Maybe the branch
offices used to communicate directly and how they go through the core and
out into the outer reaches and back again. Trace route would let you
determine if this is happening.

Good luck. Let us know what you discover. This is an interesting problem.

Re: NDS- IPX problem [7:12020]

2001-07-12 Thread Patrick Ramsey

Are you using all cisco equipment or are you mixing cisco with other
vendors? If you are using multiple vendors, make sure the sap and rip
updates are happening at the same time. (either when changes are made, or
every so many seconds) a lot of vendors' default configs are to allow
updates when changes are made, where cisco is every so many seconds. Either
will work, but both have to be configured the same. If they aren't you'll
have sporadic problems and neither equipment will hold sap and rip updates
properly.

Where are you seeing the two different trees. Are you seeing them from
Display Servers or from the SAP list on the router or from a Netware Client.
If you are seeing this from a Router or Server this is pretty normal. But
if you are seeing this from the client then this points to a communications
problem between the Servers or a NDS corruption. Try doing a Reset Router
on all the NetWare boxes within 15 seconds of each other. Then try running
DSRepairs on each individual box that has a copy of the DS. Start with the
Master.

I hope this helps.

That's very strange. Are you sure that image in the flash
is named exactly as 'system boot' command specifies ? Have
you tried to remove 'system boot' command to see will it
boot from flash ?

Hello Olden,

Just a few ideas that came to mind:

Did you check a configuration register value in "show ver" ? Is it 0x2102 or

Do you have any "boot system flash XXX" config command in case when boot
from flash fails ?

Do you see any messages on the console when flash boot fails ?

Shane,

It seems you have an IP only image. You may have been confused by the L in
the image, but as far as I know when the L appears in that position it just
indicates a relocatable image, not IPX.
Appletalk isn't anywhere in there.
