Francis , A 'wr t' always shows a version number that matches the IOS you are currently using . So if you write this config to startup you also put back the version number 12.0 . Cisco sometimes changes defaults or add defaults when going from one code level to another ( eg 12.0.5 to 12.0.9 ) . In these cases , when you come from an higher version to a lower version of code , I understand this message . But as soon you write the current config to nvram the messages should stop . Just my opinion . Your case below you told the router that the config was made with 11.0 . Can think of any suggestion at this point . It is not a serious message , rather a warning . Yeah, Flem, I'm positive the error pops up there... :-) Well, I did exactly what you suggest and changed the version from 12.0 to 11.0 and the error's gone! ok... so what does it mean over here? Am I telling the system that the config is actually done in 11.0? What puzzled me is that, when I have the basic IP configuration, there's no error message during system bootup. right, that ms is only a warning, but when the router loads the config, itll then give u errors, that u might not even see since they scroll kinda fast, telling you i didnt understand this command basically. the msg is jsut a warning, telling u, hey its perfectly normal that i dont understand all the junk you typed in my config file, since im runing a dumer version. dont worry too much about it, if ur config is working fine. but remember id still upgrade boot images if i were you. thats because you havent upgraded your boot image, and the day ur ios crashes, your confg will most liekely not be fully loaded because your boot image is 11.0. upgrade your boot flash, and u'll be set.
