RE: VLAN problem ?
is your gbic connection a trunk link? If so then allow vlan 1 through. If not that's probably the answer. -Original Message- From: Phil Barker [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 25 August 2000 10:58 To: cisco GroupStudy Subject: VLAN problem ? Hi gang, I've got an issue with a VLAN that I set up recently. I have a 3524 switch of which 4 ports I have placed into VLAN 100. These ports are farmed out to a set of 2924 switches that belong to part of our old network. The 3524 switch is GBIC'd down to a Cat 4006 Core switch. The core port is placed into VLAN 100. This is then routed to the new network at the core. Although everyone is working away happily, I have no management view of this Cat 3524. From the core switch I cannot ping the "cdp neighbor" 3524 switch ? I am concluding that VLAN 1 isn't getting through due to a config issue. Can anyone shed any light ? Regards, Phil. Do You Yahoo!? RE: VLAN problem ?
Paul/Robert, Thanks for the response, The port isn't currently set as a trunk port. QED. Does the setting of a trunk port have any connection with VTP ? since I have been assured that VTP is not required to achieve the desired result. RE: VLAN problem ?
You don't need to have VTP on, but if you did it and the 4006 port was a trunk then vlan 1 would have been allowed on the trunk automatically, and removed off the trunk when not required. By default all vlans will be forwarded out of the 4006 trunk. -P -Original Message- From: Phil Barker [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, August 25, 2000 11:52 AM To: Williamson, Paul; cisco GroupStudy Subject: RE: VLAN problem ? RE: VLAN problem ?
Still struggling with this !! I've the 3524 uplink port as a trunk port. And set the 4000 port as a trunk port. Now I'm getting nothing from cdp ? However, users are still working away without any problems. Still cannot manage the 3524 switch. Still cannot ping either way. When I put trunking on the 3524 the fibre uplink changed from Blocking to Forwarding, however, I've lost CDP now. Any ideas ? RE: VLAN problem
Douglas, It could be several things What Type of Device is the switch (5500)? How many users are on the Vlans? If it worked immediately, then it could be a compiling of the broadcasts. Also, a simple way to do it, would either be to just assign that Server to the Vlan the main user's are on! You should have all similiar service users on the same Vlan, to limit the amount inter-Vlan routing having to be done by the RSM. Just me 2 cents. James Team: Have multiple users on a floor experiencing slow response (15 min) when pulling up AutoCad files. The are on a dedicated switch that has VLAN 32 as it's home. The users ip address subnet is #.#.33.#. This is a 23 bit subnet. The server they are getting the files from is on a different subnet of #.#.81.#. This is the 80 VLAN. We tried adding the 80 VLAN to the switch that has the 32 VLAN and immediately the users reported improved performance. Now the users are reporting slow file loading again! Why? We are using ATM Lane as well. Please help!!! = Please Reply to: [EMAIL PROTECTED] --- Douglas A.
