Re: erased flash
Hi Basically you have erased your main Cisco IOS, and you router is in Rom Monitor mode (its alive but not as we know it!!) if you type the '?' key you'll get a list of processor specific commands that will help you get the router booted properly... There is the default IOS that resides in the ROM that you should be able to invoke this IOS is normally an early version and may not have all the feature set you require... but its a start... RE: erased flash
When you perform the xmodem command make sure you have enough free space in your flash to load the new IOS. I was trying to load a new image to a 4MB flash where the IOS had been renamed. If you have performed the Xmodem ( I prefer the Xmodem-1K method, supported by hyperterm) you will know that it is a slow procedure, watching paint dry is more exciting. If you truly erased the entire flash this should not be a problem, but issue a "dir flash:" to verify the image you are trying to load will fit into the flash. It is quite frustrating after you have tried this twice only to realize you need to delete the renamed image for it to fit (I was working with a 4MB 2900XL, which I had been told was an 8MB 2900XL). It is my own fault for not verifying their information myself, fortunately this was purely for educational purposes, not a production switch. RE: erased flash
What it means is that the bootstrap cannot find the IOS file on the flash and the system can not open it probably the binary file is corrupted just download another into the router, you can do it with XMODEM. RE: erased flash
Your flash is erased or the flash memory module is bad. If you have a backup copy of the image restore it. RE: erased flash
Hi, The XMODEM does not work wih all models. I tried with the 7200 and there was no XMDOEM option. I did it by putting the flash in a router with two flash banks and I download the IOS to the second one. I am not sure about the 1700. RE: erased flash (how to restore)
All, Apparently the erased flash problem happened to several people. I received several requests for how to restore the flash (if you have an image or the image CD). So please excuse the long text here. You will need the following: 1. TFTP, it is on the software CD or download from Cisco website. 2. A workstation W95/98 or NT - with IP, install TFTP on it. 2a. Put image in same directory to make it easy to restore. 3. Connect router console cable to the workstation. 4. Connect workstation and router ethernet port to hub (or directly to each other using a crossover cable). 6. Start TFTP on your workstation. 7. Start a communication program such as Hyper Term to access router. 8. Router will put you in rommon mode, issue the following commands: 9. tftpdnld (after this is loaded you can always use ? for help). 10. IP_ADDRESS=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (uppercase IP adress of router, use any) 11. IP_SUBNET_MASK= (the subnet mask) 12. DEFAULT_GATEWAY=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (any IP on same net) 13. TFTP_SERVER=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx (IP address of your TFTP workstation) 14. TFTP_FILE=location/name.of.the.image 15. tftpdnld That's it. I hope this help. > -Original Message- > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: Thursday, August 10, 2000 12:38 AM > To: Nguyen_Trang > Cc: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: RE: erased flash(problem solved) > > > Thanks a lot of your kind help. > > I got another copy of the image and downloaded that in the > router thru tftp > server. > > Thanks > Hitesh > > > > > > Nguyen_Trang <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> on 08/09/2000 09:40:44 PM > > Please respond to Nguyen_Trang <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > cc:(bcc: harora) > Subject: RE: erased flash > > > > > Your flash is erased or the flash memory module is bad. > If you have a backup copy of the image restore it. > > Trang > > > -Original Message- > > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > > Sent: Wednesday, August 09, 2000 6:28 AM > > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > Subject: erased flash > > > > > > Hi all, > > > > I need a help from you guys. > > > > I have a problem with one of the cisco router(1700 series). > The router > > automatically goes into rommon mode and says that > > > > "can not open flash: > > unable to determine flash: > > > > The flash is corrupted or what? > > > > What can be the cause of this problem > > Thanks in advance > > Hitesh > > > > > > ___ > > UPDATED Posting Guidelines: > http://www.groupstudy.com/list/guide.html > > FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com > > Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to > [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > > ___ > UPDATED Posting Guidelines: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/guide.html > FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com > Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED] > > > > > > ___ UPDATED Posting Guidelines: http://www.groupstudy.com/list/guide.html FAQ, list archives, and subscription info: http://www.groupstudy.com Report misconduct and Nondisclosure violations to [EMAIL PROTECTED]
