RE: smartforce training [7:21933]
I received a phone call today from a woman named Sondra Smith who is one of their reps. She said I have dropped my name on their site. The website url is http://www.vip.smartcertify.com . Tfhe phone # she gave me is 1-800-653-4933 ext 1264. It is expensive but they have a plan that can be financed through SallyMae Loans which is sort of like a student college loan that can be repayable after you finish classes and after they place you in a job. They have 24hr support for their classes through the format of "chat rooms' that are run by certified instructors that are certified in whatever cert you are currently pursuing, so you get instant replies to questions you might have through the course as you proceed forward. They send out cd's of the materials pertaining to the certs the person wants to achieve and they have job placement in whatever area you live in or where ever you choose to work. That is all I know at this point. I talked to this woman for about 1hr on the phone. It is a forced learning method, which I think is good. You can only advance through the course with satisfactory completion of each subject. You can't skip ahead is what I think this means. She called it force learning. There would be one price for the ccnp series of classes. You would receive the material for all four tests at one time. The same for the mcse and the ccna and the a+. She said they also have oracle and some other stuff which I wasn't really interested in. If you click on the link I gave you, it opens up a box wanting the sales rep name. Just type in sondra's name and then you can browse a little on their site. I sure there is more to this, but like I said, this is all I know at this point. It nearly sounded too good to be true and you know what they say about that. I was just hoping someone had some personal knowledge of this and could tell me something also. If I do proceed with this, I will let you know what I think after I have personal experience of it. It also is endorsed by cisco and microsoft.or at least she said so. By not good as books, do you mean that it is just not as detailed.Or that they don't have enought information in them for passing a test...? If I recall properly, these folks have gone through a few company names. I think they used to be Fore Systems. A few years back I purchased their cbt's for ICRC and ACRC. I was just starting my Cisco studies in those days. At the time I was a Banyan Vines guy (CBE/CBI) and an NT guy (MCSE) with a smattering of a few Unixes. I was very disappointed with the material. The presentation was very glizty and appealing but there were many problems with the validity of the content. I forwarded over a dozen screen captures of incorrect information to them over the course of a month. Finally I was at the point where I was asking for some compensation for the shoddy material. They eventually agreed that the material had flaws (how do you disagree with a screen capture?) and said had I complained within 30 days I could have returned the CDs with a full refund. This of course they reminded me at the 5 week mark. I failed my first attempt at ICRC using their material. I was woefully un-prepared although I could ace their practice tests. The exam at the time had lots of material that the courses did not cover. They did send me a exam voucher. I sold the material on eBay and got some of my cost back. They have since called me many times - I think everytime they changed names, (and sales people turn over) trying to get me to buy until I told whoever the unfortunate soul was that in my eyes their reputation preceded them and no thanks. I haven't been contacted in a long time now. Hmm.. it's with interest I've read this thread as I own their CCNP training CBT. Overall, it was pretty well done.. better then many of the others I've looked at. The material matches Cisco's own docs pretty well.. no glaring errors that I have found so far. It's gives the information needed to barely pass the test.. you still need to supplement it with some reading AND some practice tests. My one complaint to them so far is their testing is weak. Amen to that. My company bought the MCSE program and it was not only marginal it was dull. This company was the original CBT Systems, and somehow Ended up with a deal with FORE (not the one that is now Marconi). But their tactics in selling these "Official" Training materials are VERY aggressive that you'd have Better chances of getting a super deal from a used-car Lot. Its provided for CG members. Its a CBT. If you like CBTs then its good. If I actually like the notes and other stuff that is provided with Smartforce. I had this same experience with them a while back. They covered the basics and may be good for someone just getting to know the ins and outs (theory etc) but as far as exam prep they did not "pass" with me.
