I haven't read the book yet but I used to work with the author and
happily recommend anything that he puts his name to.

Knowing the amount of time he put into the book, I'd say that $70 is a steal

Howard,

You're comments made me start thinking about college.
At least the Russian text put the math there. When I obtained my
Aeronautical Engineering degree every mathematical proof for Advanced Fluid
dynamics seemed to follow the same pattern. Show an equation like F=ma and
then make a statements such as, it can been seen that, it can be shown
that, it's intuitive that, it's obvious that, etc. followed by an eighth
order partial differential equation or the Navier-Stokes equations in polar
co-ordinate form. Now, I like a challenge as much as the next person, but
trying to work out the four pages of math to find out whether these
statements were true got a little tedious.

The intro to the book mentions that they are already working on Vol II
but doesn't mention a potential release date. Apparently, the author(s)
felt that there wasn't enough space in the book to adequately address
BGP so they moved it to Vol II, along with IPX, VPN, and who knows what
else.

if one is using the book as a source of labs for practice, one can
supplement this one with the Parkhurst book for BGP, which goes into far
more detail than anyone other than an ISP might care ( except that it
doesn't cover local-as for some reason )

I have only done a cursory review, but from what I can tell their approach
is perfect. The author goes through each technology and explains it with as
few routers as necessary, then at the end are six full scale exam style
labs. Really concise material without all the fluff.

I haven't had the chance to check for errors, but I have a good feeling
about the quality of the material.

This is just what the doctor ordered for prep work.

As a gut check I looked up a couple of things that tripped me up on an exam
and sure enough there they were fully explained with descriptions and
configs.

In my opinion this book should increase the pass rate. This book is the list
of gothcas and how-to's I was creating myself, now it just has a pretty
cover.

Remember Cisco wants more people to pass the lab.

These are only my preliminary observations. Take a look at the book and
judge for yourself.

 Thanks,

I found it on different sites but was hoping I can find the best price. I
usually buy from bookpool but they do not have any. So if anybody can
tell
me where I can get the best price, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

John, you could have purchased it at SoftPro Books since the middle of
last
 week.

I know this just came out recently but I'm wondering if any of you have it
yet? I don't know why I'm asking now since my copy will be here tomorrow.
:-) I'm just curious to see if anyone else has had a chance to crack its
 pages yet.

$$$

the CCIE has become the coin of the realm for Cisco and their channel
partners. Partners get better discounts, and thus can sell more equipment
than can the mom and pop shops. Have to have so many CCIE's on staff to
achieve the various partner levels.

within the Cisco sales organization itself, they believe it is more
conducive to sales to have CCIE's in the faces of customers telling them how
to do things. Ever been in a sales meeting with Cisco CCIE's? ;-

I've had people over at my house who crack open some Cisco books security

BTW, !$#@#! is pretty hard to pronounce unless you're angry

Insincerely,
