RE: CCNP Todd Lammle Books???
I use following tecnique when I study for an CCNP exam: - I try to get as much hands on experience as I can. - I read some hands on books about the material. The CCIE books are usually good. - Then I read a studyguide like Todd Lammle writes. I do it to get an overwiev of the material for the exam. - At last (Last week or so before the exam) I start reading books like the Exam notes from Sybex or the Exam Cram books from Coriolis. I am lazy and dont take notes when I read so I use these books as they are designed to be as notes. At this stage I take as many practice exams as I possibly can to see where my knowledge lacks and hit the books again. Hi guys. Has anyone used any CBTs for the CCNP 2.0? The Study Guide is designed to be read as a teaching tool that supplements real-world experience. It is not written to teach the test, but to provide enough information to prepare readers for the test and to support them in production networks. The Exam Notes are designed for those readers who read the Study Guide or took the official course and simply wish to have a review and checkpoint. Some readers start with the Exam Notes to determine if the Study Guide is warranted. A couple other points - while Todd has upwards of 30 books in the series, there are over 50 other authors, copy and technical editors that work on the series. Second - I appreciate the comments from Jim below, however, I find them very discouraging as well. The CID book was written by me and is actually thinner by many Study Guides. I have co-written Remote Access, CIT and CLSC, and believe that the Study Guides are simply different from the Cisco Press materials. The Sybex publications are written to take the reader through the learning process, and are written to a 'junior level.' The Cisco Press texts, depending on title, are either written from the course materials or are compliations of the content on CCO. This is an excellent approach, and I enjoy these texts as reference, however, I would not recommend them to a reader studying for CCNP/DP level certification who only has CCNA level knowledge. In addition, with a fast CCO connection, it is possible to review the white papers and other titles on CCO and get many of the same diagrams, etc. as Cisco Press. The benefit to these titles comes from the author's additions and organization - and many are quite good. As I have stated before, both texts have value and most readers will use a combination of them. I'd suggest looking at both in the bookstore and buying both if they have value to you - if you are less experienced with the equipment or need a classroom style of presentation you will likely prefer the Sybex title. If you like lots of information and need reference materials to help you teach yourself you will likely prefer Cisco Press.
