Re: Password recovery when console it hosed [7:17743]
People are going to tell you that you have a bad terminal package but I don't think thats it. Can you get into rommon, if you can run the router with 0x2141. If you still get garbled console you may want to try and load a small image. I once loaded a very large image on a 1600 and starting recieveing garbled messages. I had to send it back to cisco the TAC guy on the phone said that this can happen sometimes when there is not enough memory for the expanding image. It will even negate displaying the rommon functionality, which really surprised me. - Original Message - From: "Adam Luy" To: Sent: Wednesday, August 29, 2001 1:37 PM Subject: Password recovery when console it hosed [7:17743] > Hey everybody, > > I have a couple of 3102 routers at home that I can not get into. You said they download from a TFTP? well snoop the Ethernet packets and look for what file they are requesting. store that file on your ftp server and just add a config file with the same name and... config-register 0x2102 or confreg 0x2102 or better yet make it boot into rom mode Some times the trees are better to look at than the forest ;-} Wayne -Original Message- From: Adam Luy [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, August 30, 2001 5:37 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Password recovery when console it hosed [7:17743] Hey everybody, I have a couple of 3102 routers at home that I can not get into. Re: Password recovery when console it hosed [7:17743]
I had the garbled console data problem once before. I went through slowly and methodically starting with 8N1 through all the different baud rates that Hyperterm would allow. I finally found the right setting at 1200 bps. Other than that, I know of no way to clear the NVRAM although I'd suppose if you knew where the NVRAM chip was on the board and which pin was the erase pin, you could apply 5 volts to it to erase it. Someone might have a databook that shows that pinout if you can locate the chip on the board. Oh, the other solution might be attaching a console cable to the AUX port (but I guess you don't know the enable password, which is probably the point of all this, right?) This is good CCIE practice for you although I suspect you already ran out of time in the lab troubleshooting section (oops) - Original Message - From: "Gore, Roger (Signal)" To: Sent: Wednesday, August 29, 2001 3:06 PM Subject: RE: Password recovery when console it hosed [7:17743] > The OS or the keyboard on your PC/Laptop may also be the problem. The OS or the keyboard on your PC/Laptop may also be the problem. For instace, hyperterm on an NT box will hose you...the break key is worthless. Check this page out.
