RE: Token Ring Problem
I don't understand your term "LAM" can you expand on what that means? If it refers to a Ring-In Ring-Out port, then no you can't connect a router to that. Assuming your cabling is good you should be able to conenct a router to any other port, unless the port is disabled or something. Is it an active or passive MAU, what is it? If it's active you might be able to get some info from status lights... daveh -Original Message- From: Peter Gray [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, August 31, 2000 5:22 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Token Ring Problem Can I connect Token Ring Interface on my router directly to LAM Port?? Token Ring problem [7:27177]
Hi ALL, I have been trapped by a Tokenring problem and seek for anyone suggestions. I have token ring router and a Linux connected with a HP TR Hub. From the indicator on the TR Hub I have told the connection and ring insertion is ok. However, I can't ping from Linux box to the router. My router does not have problem to ping to another 2502. All interfaces and NIC are in same network/mask. From the router I obtain the mac address correctly by sh arp except we can't ping !!! Any idea? Re: Token Ring problem [7:27177]
Sorry for late reply. My Linux gone down in the previous two days so I am disconnected from mail. The token ring display in my box is the actual one. After re-plugging my token ring and removing my sound card I'm back with the token ring lan. However, I do have connected with the old config but with the MTU displayed as 1500, while all the router interfaces use 4464. Does this matter in the ping action? As I know, the MTU setting will only be matter in segmentation. Does I miss something? Hi; You should use show controller token to determine how many Soft Errors and types of soft error Soft errors: 2 Types: Isolating and Non-isolating soft error. Isolating soft error: the NAUN in the soft error report frame is irrelevant. Types: Line error (CRC error, illegal bit find in Token or frame), Internal error, Burst Error, ARI/FCI error Non-isolating soft error: Cannot be isolated to a station and the stations NAUN or the cabling between them. Types: Lost frame, copy error, receive congested, token error, frequency error. The cyclic redundancy checksum generated by the originating LAN station or far-end device does not match the checksum calculated from the data received. On a LAN, this usually indicates noise or transmission problems on the LAN interface or the LAN bus itself. A high number of CRCs is usually the result of a station transmitting bad data. Thanks for a good answer. You meant to say that the NAUN is relevant with isolating errors, though. With isolating errors, the troubleshooter can isolate the fault domain. The fault may be with the reporting station, the nearest active upstream neighbor (NAUN), or cabling, MSAU ports or patch panels between the station and its NAUN. If CRC errors (line errors) are excessive, check for crosstalk, noise, RFI or EMI affecting the cabling between the reporting station and its upstream neighbor. Also check the NIC of the upstream neighbor. 60 CRC errors in four minutes with 2.2 Mbytes of traffic is a lot. But is this a continuous problem or just a one-time thing? When an error occurs, a station sets a two-second timer and waits for any other errors before sending a soft error report. Using a Sniffer, look back two seconds from the soft error report to see if there's any evidence of what caused the problem. It might just be stations inserting or leaving the ring. RE: Token Ring Tool WAS Token Ring Problem
The relay unsticker-tool is called a Ring Initialization tool. It is just about the size of a small cellphone and fits directly into the MAU and contains a battery. You must insert it into the afflicted port. -Original Message- From: ElephantChild [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, March 29, 2001 4:00 PM To: Daniel Cotts Cc: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: Re: Token Ring Tool WAS Token Ring Problem On Thu, 29 Mar 2001, Daniel Cotts wrote: > I've heard about those zapper tools for MAUs but have never seen one.
