RE: [clamav-users] clamd dropping out with no aparent reason

2003-06-27 Thread Lorenzo Conti
Sorry guys,
The problem that I tough was sorted out is instead still there. Also
with the version 0.60. I noticed that there this afternoon after
freshclam updated virusdb at about 16:45 GMT with no problem at least
looking at freshclam logs:

--
Checking for a new database - started at Fri Jun 27 16:45:01
2003
viruses.db is up to date.
Database updated (containing in total 8736 signatures).
Database updated from clamav.elektrapro.com.
--

At the following selfcheck of clamd the program misbehaved and I got a
coredump that maybe somebody want to debug (please send me a private msg
to get it). The clamd log again shows only 2 lines:

Fri Jun 27 16:52:12 2003 -> SelfCheck: Database modification
detected. Forcing reload.
Fri Jun 27 16:52:12 2003 -> Reading databases from
/usr/local/share/clamav

And after I have a core dump file (ls -l)

-rw--- 1 root wheel 11346388 Jun 27 16:52 clamd.core

I performed the required test and I found out that the problem is not

entries:

SelfCheck: Database modification detected. Forcing reload.
Reading databases from /usr/local/share/clamav

while with the currently installed 0.60 I have also

Database correctly reloaded (8736 viruses)

after the previous 2 lines.

The only modification I make to the ditributions are the patches
contained in the OpenBSD unofficial port. I don't use the port system
but just untar the file and apply the patch to the original
distribution. The patches contained in 33-clamav-20030613.tgz worked for
both 0.60 and clamav-20030613. Sorry about the lack of details on the
version of clamav installed and by the way how safe is to install a
snapshot version on a production site?

clamd remained running during this process.

I have manually run freshclam and could not make it bomb.

Re: [clamav-users] clamd dropping out with no aparent reason

2003-06-26 Thread Lorenzo Conti
I'm experiencing the same trouble running a similar setup: OpenBSD3.3,
Postfix, amavisd-new-20030314-p2 (running chrooted), spamassassin, clamd

What I noticed is that the problem occurs after a db update via
freshclam.
Basically after a successful update clamd checks itself and the db for
updates (by default every 3600 sec). Then it detect the change a write
in the log:

SelfCheck: Database modification detected. Forcing reload.
Reading databases from /usr/local/share/clamav

The problem is that the system doesn't give any additional sign of
disorder but actually doesn't restart properly because the socket file
is not properly deleted and restarted when the clamd restarts. If then
you kill the daemon, delete the socket file and restarts the daemon then
it restarts nicely and works again.
I hope this info will help developers to fix the problem. Meanwhile I'm
trying to work it out using the optional script that freshclam can run
after a successful db update.

[clamav-users] clamd dropping out with no aparent reason

2003-06-25 Thread Lynn Duerksen

Running OpenBSD3.3, Postfix, amavisd-new-20030616, spamassassin, clamd.

Everything seems to run great for awhile and until the maillog indicates
"Can't connect to UNIX socket /var/amavisd/clamd:" and by then the
dameon process is no longer running.

Sometimes it runs for a couple days, sometimes a couple of hours.

I have to shutdown amavisd, delete /var/amavisd/clamd, startup clamd
again and then amavisd. Then it works for awhile, then I have to go
through it again.

Any suggestions on how to track this down would be appreciated.

Thanks

LAD
