Stus-List Quick tank/ Raritan? Hot Water Heater

2012-09-16 Thread Lee Youngblood

hi Paul,

Is this what you used?

http://www.costco.com/Quick-%2526-Hot-Instant-190-Degree-Hot-Water-Dispenser-with-Faucet.product.11226344.html?catalogId=10701&keyword=Quick+tank+hot+water&langId=-1&storeId=10301

Maybe I didn't find the right Quick tank?

Replaced the tank on perception with a 3 gallon Quick tank. The
Raritan I took out surprised me with the amount of rust I had to
clean up when removed it.

New tank is smaller and heats quicker, the admiral has not
complained of a lack of hot water since the change - a frequent
source of them before.

Paul. :)

looks pretty rusted up, I'm thinking maybe sticking due to
corrosion and with a valve running <$30.00 as opposed to >$500.00
for a new tank, probably worth a try.

Re: Stus-List Nicro Vents

2012-09-16 Thread Chuck S
Hi John,
Sorry I don't have a good picture of the blocks I used.

I used several layers of 1/4" fiberglass sheet (cause I had some lying around)
and epoxy putty cause I planned to step on the blocks when working the
foredeck.
There is a new material available at lumber yards called expanded PVC sheet
that would work better. I shaped the blocks so they are curved and very close
to the ICP solar fans I have on my boat. The lines are 3/8" so the gap between
the blocks and the fan housing had to be closer than that, maybe 1/8" to 1/4"
max. I found 1/8" easy. I painted the final result to match the deck color.

I fashioned small blocks that I epoxied in front of the fan and sheets now ride

Thanks everyone for the suggested places to go.
We're probably going to take most of the advice and skip Deal. Opting instead
for St Michaels and Chesterton.
We're booked into the Inner Harbor Marina on the SW side of Baltimore Harbor,
so should be an easy walk to the game.

Re: Stus-List inboards for c&c 26

2012-09-16 Thread Sam Salter
I have a 2GM20F in my 1977 C&C 26.
It was in there when I bought it.
I have the original build sheets and inspection papers for my boat. The Vire
was standard at the time, but the diesel was fitted as an option. I don't know
if the 2GM20 was the original option (the paperwork is not clear on that) and
the Yanmar was shiny new when I bought the boat - one of the reasons I plumped
for this particular boat.
There is plenty of room under the companionway, so I would think you could get
almost any make of engine in there!

Re: Stus-List deck organizer sheaves

2012-09-16 Thread Joel Aronson
Thanks to everyone.

I took mine apart this morning. It is similar to the Schaefer but
unbranded plain aluminum. Even after taking off the top place I had
to work the frozen sheave off with a hammer, screwdriver and channel
locks. It was frozen for a,long time - the sheave had a groove in it
from the old wire halyard. I replaced it temporarily with a slightly
larger Ronstan, leaving the screw a little loose. I now have both my
cunningham and reefing line running back to the cockpit.

Hi Joel
On my 35-3 the deck organizers are schaeffer. Like this
one:http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|118|103371|297596&id=114517
To get these off you take out the 3x mounting bolts, the bottoms are
accessible through the openings in the cabin roof where the lights are.
The sheave is welded to the bottom plate.

I think the pressure relief valve on a Raritan is a standard plumbing

Replaced the tank on perception with a 3 gallon Quick tank. The Raritan I took
out surprised me with the amount of rust I had to clean up when removed it.

New tank is smaller and heats quicker, the admiral has not complained of a lack
of hot water since the change - a frequent source of them before.

The Nicro Marine vent on my boat is identical to the one in this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9C5H2gacSLM

It appears to be an older model, obviously since it has been on the boat
since we bought it in 2006. Unlike the newer ones, this one doesn't run
when the sun goes down. Is that because it does not have a rechargeable
battery or is the battery to far along in its life to hold a charge?

Any idea what kind of a battery this model would take and where you you
obtain it?

Very easy fix. Don't recall the cost of the item or where I got it but

recommended by other 35MKIII listers, and whether it makes sense to remove
the cover (and how much). I will be sticking with my older guys for at
least another year or so.

Stus-List Nicro Vents

2012-09-16 Thread Helen Abbott

The Nicro Marine vent on my boat is identical to the one in this video:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9C5H2gacSLM

It appears to be an older model, obviously since it has been on the boat
since we bought it in 2006. Unlike the newer ones, this one doesn't run
when the sun goes down. Is that because it does not have a rechargeable
battery or is the battery to far along in its life to hold a charge?

Any idea what kind of a battery this model would take and where you you
obtain it?

Stus-List Source for parts for a Galley Maid alcohol stove

2012-09-16 Thread Rick Brass
Imzadi still has the Galley Maid ahcohol stove that was original equipment.
I plan to switch to LP eventually, but first I need to figure out where to
put an locker for the LP tanks. So the new stove is a future project.

One of the burners in my current stove has developed a pinhole leak in one
of the heating tubes used to heat and vaporize the alcohol. I will need to
rebuild that burner, and it might be a good idea to do both of them. I was
surprised to find that Galley Maid is still in business, and I've e mailed
them about the possibility of getting parts. But with an out of production
stove that is 34 years old, I don't have much hope of success.

Has anyone on the list had to obtain parts for one of these old stoves, and
can you steer me toward a source for parts?

Thanks Sam I will have to take a look. One other question seeing you have the
same boat does your boat have a very long tiller handle? My wife says there is
no room for crew because it is so long. I told her I think it is for single
handed sailing as it put you close to the winches and traveler. I told her I
would maker a short one with a hiking stick. Best Bill Sterling- No boat name
