Stus-List Spring Projects

2014-03-21 Thread Edd Schillay
Listers,

Now that Spring has finally sprung, I was curious to see what other
listers have planned for their Spring projects on their CCs.

So far, planned for the Enterprise:

Relocate engine gauges and move engine-starting switches.
change transmission/throttle controls at helm
New coat of Petit Vivid
Add another coat or two of boot stripes
New interior cushions
Add cockpit lighting
(Maybe) Bolt centerboard inside keel and cover up the “slot”
Install bimini
Redo the remaining floorboards
Store spinnaker pole
Install Tactick wind vane and repeater
Service the refrigerator.
Install two solar vents

All the best,

Edd

I brought a boat up from the Rio Dulce last spring. I loved the area. My
Navionics charts gave me pretty much what I needed there, though they don't
have a lot of detail. They seemed pretty good for Belize, etc. too. A
caveat with Navionics: you often have to zoom fairly close to see
interesting details like rocks. let me know if you decide to go and I'll
forward you some good contacts in the river. There's a nice cruising
community there. The river bar is something of an adventure in that there's
only about 6.5' of water over it. We were pretty loaded down and had to
plough our way out with three crewmembers at the end of the boom tipping
 the boat over.

On Suhana:

- Paint boot stripes (brightside or perfection, haven't decided yet but
keeping original CC red/blue/darker blue)
- bottom paint
- repack stuffing box
- dismantle pedestal and inspect steering components, replace/repair as
necessary
- Ambitious but, repaint pedestal.
- exhaust hose replacement
- tune up the A4 (all ignition components and install new racor)
- replace mast collar
- rigging inspection
- new halyards
- washdown pump
- install tank level monitor (thanks Fred)

We'll see how much of that I get done.

Re: Stus-List Anyone need some CC30 parts?

2014-03-21 Thread Gary Nylander
The cracks along the keel to hull joint look like the usual CC smile. The
whack in the leading edge of the keel looks pretty serious - it is right
over the keel to hull joint, so there would need to be some lead work
(filling, but could be with something other than lead -small ding when
looking at the size of the keel) and some glass filling.

The hulls below the water line are not cored - I put a new hole in mine for
the speed xducer and it came out all glass.

I guess the buyer would have to figure out what to do - could get a cheap
(good) boat depending on what other equipment is offered for a minimal
amount of work - and depending on the price.

You know, she doesn’t look that bad. The keel stub is repairable and built
like a tank. The hull… I’m not sure, are these boats cored? If so bring in

Re: Stus-List Spring Projects

2014-03-21 Thread Della Barba, Joe
The wx here in Maryland has been beyond frustrating. For at least the last
month it seems every week includes a perfect day for sailing and a snow storm!

Re: Stus-List Boat names

2014-03-21 Thread Graham Collins
Mark, I have to break it to you, 42 is not obscure. In a similar vein
I was amazed when I had the Tardis (in 2002, pre Doctor Who relaunch)
how many people - including the kids driving the tender - knew the name.

I've been saving several of the messages on how to remove old boat names.
Planning on re-naming my CS30 this spring. Current name is Sea Fever - which
is not bad, but does not speak to me personally.

But I'm still not totally committed that I have the right need name.
Like Steven I have had a running list of names that piqued my interest. I'm
hoping to find something short, meaningful, unique and a bit witty. Love some
of the names I see from this list (Oxygen, The Office, etc) - but I don't want
to steal a unique name.

My current favourite is Cracked - I am a chiropractor after all, plus I've been
told multiple times that my views on the world can be twisted. Also relates
back to the fact I was (and maybe still am a bit) concerned about the small
cracks in the bilge ribs.

Other front runners
- 42 (The meaning of life, the universe, and everything - maybe too obscure)
- Vita Brevis (Life is Short in Latin)
- Therapy
- Exit Strategy

I could also use Bigger Picture (after my current Big Picture Mirage 24)

I was tempted to go with 'Handbasket' - as in 'Where are we going. And how
are we going to get there' - but don't want the negative implications it
carries.

Any brilliant and witty thoughts (or critiques) welcome

Mark

Re: Stus-List Anyone need some CC30 parts?

2014-03-21 Thread Brent Driedger
True enough. Bulkheads could be black at the chain plates and that 40 year old
rig would need $15k worth of refit.

There are no pictures of the interior, maybe racoons have been living on it.
Anything's possible. My point being that the keel may not be the only problem.

If so bring in
 the chain saws….
