Re: Stus-List Rigging Problem
Feather into the breeze a little...but not enough to affect speed. Watch your speedo. You will be fully powered up in that much breeze so your weather telltales on the jib should be almost always lifting a little...or even a lot, in the puffs. I'm out cruising so I can't do the research to find a link to the info but... If you google around enough you should find some info on a known Yanmar 2GM20 issue involving the starter relay. IF this is your problem, it won't be fixed without installing a second relay. I don't know how many years they made them like this but I'm gonna guess yours is approx a 1988? Re: Stus-List Rigging Problem
I set my mast rake at 10-12”, measured at boom level. I hoist my tool box on the main halyard so it is just off the deck. It keeps the halyard straight and steady. Measure from the aft side of the mast to the halyard. You can make small adjustments by lengthening or shortening the forestay. If you are way off, you make need to move the blocks at the base of the mast. Remember, we’re setting mast rake, not prebend. That’s a whole other subject. Spencer -- What do you mean by a full enclosure? Do you mean hard dodger, or just a new dodger designed to mate with a bimini and side panels? I'm just curious, but wouldn't mind seeing pics when you're done. PS. You are in Mt Prospect IL? I lived there as a child, at 121 N. Willie St. I just Google mapped it and the little house looks basically like it did in 1967. (It actually faces Thayer St.)Back then there were towering Elm trees all down the block, but Dutch Elm disease turned the neighborhood into a graveyard of empty stumps. It's good to see some nice 40 year old trees providing some shade. I still have some relatives in the area who race on Lake Michigan. As a funny aside, about ten years ago one of my cousins tried to bait me and asked 'Is it true what they say, that if you can sail the SF Bay you can sail anywhere in the world?' Not being a fish, I didn't rise to the bait. I just said 'Personally, I wouldn't say that. It's a big Effing world.' I'm thinking the instrument itself has gone bad, not the transducer. We just had the boat out of the water in April for fresh bottom paint, so I really don't want to pull her out again to replace the transducer. I'm hoping the existing transducer will work with a new depth gauge instrument such as a Signet SL172 depth gauge. I talked to Signet and they believe it should work, as most transducers operate on 200 kHz. Just wondering if anyone has had any experience with replacing their depth gauge using the existing transducer, what kind did you use, and did it work ok? I'm thinking about the Signet Gauge to match the existing knot log, wind speed, and apparent wind indicator, which are all Signet. Any suggestions? Full Enclosure, to me, means 2X4's and gyproc. Maybe a couple of opening sash windows, little doors by the winches so you can get full swing, a nice little fireplace in the corner.
