Re: Stus-List headroom on CC 36?
Lee, I'm a little over 6'4. The 1980 CC 36 I owned in the past had enough head room I could stand upright, bare footed, at the galley sink. As I moved forward the headroom dropped by about an 1 near the mast. IIRC the bunks were also a bit short for me, maybe 6'3 or a little more. Re: Stus-List ; Oil and Water Temp gauge sending units;
Richard, I have a 3HM35F on my 1991 37+. A while ago, I considered adding senders for oil pressure water temperature. Currently I have the standard oil pressure and water temperature switches for the red lights. Somewhere along the line, I found that Yanmar senders may use Japanese Industrial Standard fittings. See: http://www.ryco.com.au/index.php?id=224. There is some interchangeability with British Standard Pipe thread. It was very confusing and I got as far as considering removing the switches off and taking them to a mechanic to verify the size. Hope this helps, Ron Ronald V. Reminds me when I anchored one summer evening behind Charles Island, Connecticut side of Long Island Sound and in the morning I was awakened by men's voices talking and laughing like they were right next to my boat. I thought we dragged anchor! I lept on deck and checked my bearings to find we were on station. I rechecked the charts and saw an ismuth that ran from the mainland to the island at about 2 to 3 feet depth. Stus-List LF38 engine access - how bad is it really?
I took a look at a Landfall 38 last week, and yeah it's pretty bad (engine access). But does it actually prevent you from doing any critical tasks or is it more of a nuisance? Also anyone know the differences between the Yanmar 3QM30F, 3HM30F, and 3GM, either in terms of size (access) or power / longevity? The boat I looked at had the engine recorded as HM, as either a correction or upgrade (to a survey which indicated it was QM), but the owner said on this forum (a few years ago) that it came with a GM. The broker said it has the original engine. So this is very confusing/misleading, but will try to clarify with broker which it actually is. ___ This List is provided by the CC Photo Album Email address: CnC-List@cnc-list.com To change your list preferences, including unsubscribing -- go bottom of page at: http://cnc-list.com/mailman/listinfo/cnc-list_cnc-list.com
Re: Stus-List LF38 engine access - how bad is it really?
The difference between the GM and HM are negligible. Most/many parts are interchangeable. The HM only came in 3 cylinders and had a slightly higher power rating. The F designation means that it has a glycol (fresh water) coolant system and heat exchanger. The GM came in 1, 2 and 3 cylinder versions in which parts were directly interchangeable. Visually I believe all of the GMs have a place where a handle can be attached to the front of the engine to presumably hand crank. I have a Yanmar service manual that covers all of the HM and GM variants. Not sure about the QM. As for access I enjoy 3 sides but could survive comfortably with just front and back. Front alone would be quite challenging. Re: Stus-List LF38 engine access - how bad is it really?
Patrick - Mine had a Perkins 4-108 in it, which was definitely the wrong engine for the boat, but I knew I was going to repower so didn't worry about it. Most came with Yanmars, and others can tell you more about that. I also planned to convert the starboard quarter berth into a super-navstation and open up that side for engine access. I was planning to set up the boat for long term cruising, so my objectives could be different than yours. Having had to change a broken belt in a seaway, I can understand your concern. Many years ago I had a new autopilot and was cruising parallel to Northport beach. Looked around, all clear and I went below to make coffee. Several minutes later I heard the autopilot engage and it made a 90 degree turn directly toward the beach! Of course this was a Sunday so tech support was unavailable. Monday I called tech support and was told not to use the autopilot closer than 2 miles from shore because garage door openers can cause it to change course!!
