Jon,

The Ullman quote sounds pretty reasonable. Is that a Dacron sail? About
$3K seems like a bargain to me. I pay more than that for the sails on my

Merry Christmas to all!!

The temperature started off in the -20’sC and should warm up to -15C here in
Alberta with brilliant sunshine and no wind. We got 1-2” of fresh snow last
night so the cross country trails are in perfect shape. If you can’t sail might
as well ski!!

Re: Stus-List New beer can Genoa

2015-12-25 Thread Ron Casciato via CnC-List
Jon: How competitive do you want to be on Wednesday night? Our B fleet is
very tough on Wednesdays ...they separate quickly in to those that
mainly cruise and sail for the fun of it during the week and those of us who
are much more serious..it dictates the type and fabric of the sail
you end up with.

Here in New England, I'm using a light #1 at 153% made of a
"composite/Mylar" laminate material. It's a Bainbridge
material..made by a local sailmaker that also sails with me on
Wednesday.the cost 2 years ago was in the $3400 range discounted for
the fall boat show sale..

I'd be glad to refer you to him if you're interested he does ship all
over.we've been the #1 boat in the fleet for 2 years...the sails do
a lot of the work.not an excuse, however, for a good helmsman. Which
he is.

I'm the same age as well. Don't let our wife "pack you in" yet.. lots of
time left for that

Re: Stus-List New beer can Genoa

2015-12-25 Thread Josh Muckley via CnC-List
Do you need a new sail because you don't have a sail that works or instead
because you want to be more competitive? Mine was more blown out than I
desired. It still worked and I even won a cruising class race by over 12
minutes with it. That being said, I had Clark Mckinney at Quantum Sail in
Solomons, MD make a new one for me. The 37+ rates well and I didn't want
to significantly diminish its performance. Being the only intended
headsail for the boat, for the entire season AND for every possible
condition, every detail was an engineering compromise which he and I
eagerly worked through. I ended up with a fairly heavy (~7.5oz), 145%
genoa, with roller cover. ~$4200.

A friend of mine bought from them (the full set for a Hunter 34). The cost
is very competitive. But measure triple (double is not good enough). I also
heard that if they screw up, they would replace the sail (not necessarily
without some discussions, but they do).
