I should have mentioned, my spinnakers' max widths are both "only" 184% of J.

When I bought C&C 30-1 HIN 3007972 it came with two spinnakers of different
material weights. They were handed down with the boat when the PO moved it to
Colorado from Traverse City Michigan (where it spent the first 40 years of its
life). The lighter one was made by Babel & Buchbinder, an obscure loft in
Traverse City that now appears to be a Doyle loft
(http://www.doylesails.com/lofts/traversecity/). I can't find a sailmaker's
label on the heavier one. Both have "ChuteSCOOP" dousing sleeves on them
(http://www.chutescoop.com). That's all I know about them.

I measured their max width how my RSA's PHRF chairman told me to, by folding
each sail in half vertically and measuring from the trailing edges to the
center fold, both at the foot and about a third of the way up. Then I doubled
the measurement and calculated what % of J it represented. If that's not the
right way to measure SMW maybe I can get 6 seconds back in my PHRF rating :)

Just wondering how many of you 30-1 owners out there have ever received a PHRF
certificate for your boat, and what your rating was.

Looking at
http://www.ussailing.org/wp-content/uploads/DARoot/Offshore/PHRF/2014%20PHRF%20Handicaps%20Data.pdf,
the range is 168-186 with mode 174 and mean 174.64 (and median 177). But it's
hard to know the particulars of all those boats that were rated e.g. how many
had folding props. And there may be rating inconsistency between US Sailing
regional sailing associations.

The PHRF chairman of my regional sailing association gave my 30-1 base PHRF of
186, and an adjusted PHRF of 180 (a -6 adjustment due to spinnaker max width
>180% of J). AFAIK my boat is totally stock, including a fixed two-blade prop.

Just wondering how my PHRF ratings compare to other 30-1s' PHRF ratings, and
wondering about the particulars of the 30-1s that got rated.

That was one of the FAQs at the Talalay website. Evidently the allergy is
because of the rubber sap proteins which also get washed out of the foam
during its manufacture. They also cite that the allergy typically requires
direct contact with latex and since the foam is rarely if ever in direct
contact, even if a small amount of the proteins remained, it would be
extremely unlikely to cause an allergic reaction.

But yes, thank you for your tenderness and concern Chuck.

Hey guys,

Just wanted to share a really good experience with y'all. We just had a custom
mattress made for Sea Hawk. It is 7" of Talalay latex foam and was entirely
custom built by John at Magic Sleeper in Pottstown, PA. A competing company
which we saw at the boat show, HMC (Handcrafted Mattress Company), provided
deplorable customer service and quoted us $4200. John provided amazing customer
service, turned the project around in 2 weeks and it only cost 1/3 of the
price!

exactly as the directions indicate. I did Poli-prep as I had no idea what was

afterward from people walking around the yard. It is all the scratches that
make me want to repaint. From a distance, the shine is all you see. Dave

warranty. Cost very reasonable. Uses OEM bearings, seals etc. He reman'd

Ron,

No they don’t. Run one or the other, but not both. I run the tricolor
offshore or when sailing overnight. I run the lower lights near shore.

Do the rules of the road allow the use of a tricolor and lower running lights
at the same time? I didn't think so.

Re: Stus-List Removing Polyglow

2016-05-21 Thread David Knecht via CnC-List
I have been using Poliglow on my Awlgrip hull for 3 years with no ill effects I
can discern. I don’t know where that rumor originated. The hull looked
“awful” before and it looks hugely better after Poliglow. It really needs
repainting but that is a job for another year. I would never use Awlgrip
again. Dave

I believe mine is rated 186 in STL; but I have a 160% genny, folding prop and
shoal draft.  There is a small difference between the shoal and fin keels for
PHRF.  From personal experience, I do know the fin keel points higher than my
shoal draft. How did you end up with a chute that has >180% girth?RonWild

Listers-
Just wondering how many of you 30-1 owners out there have ever received a PHRF
certificate for your boat, and what your rating was.
Looking at
http://www.ussailing.org/wp-content/uploads/DARoot/Offshore/PHRF/2014%20PHRF%20Handicaps%20Data.pdf,
the range is 168-186 with mode 174 and mean 174.64 (and median 177).  But it's
hard to know the particulars of all those boats that were rated e.g. how many
had folding props.
Thanks In Advance,Randy StaffordS/V GrenadineC&C 30-1 #7Ken Caryl, CO

#yiv7564593735 body{font-family:Helvetica, Arial;font-size:13px;}We’ve just got
an anchor light up there at present and obviously we can’t run our anchor light
while sailing. I thought about getting a tricolor, but honestly I am a little
leery of other ships only being able to see one light at a time - it’s probably
completely unfounded, but I feel like being able to see the bow light and stern
light (if beam-on or aft) might make a difference. Obviously in heavy seas you
might not see low-mounted running lights at all, so there the tricolor is
obviously superior…

Allen,

When my aluminum tank was shot, I replaced it with a plastic tank:

Something to consider, it's worked great for me.

Listers-

Tonight I accidentally dropped overboard half the feed funnel of the old Head
Foil 2 luff support system on my boat. Any ideas where I might find a
replacement? I'd prefer to not plunk down the money for an entirely new luff
support system or (gasp) furler. I'll contact the company but judging by their
website I wonder if they're still viable.

Thanks,

Randy
