Re: Stus-List Propeller for CnC 99

2018-01-12 Thread Jake Brodersen via CnC-List
Sergey,

What brand of propeller do you have now and what are its dimensions? That
would help a lot. Personally, I prefer the 2 blade folding propeller for
its low drag, as racing is my primary activity. I have a Martec Elliptical
prop, which I have been very happy with. Performance in reverse is not the
best, but once you get used to it, it's not an issue.

Hello

Could somebody recommend me store(s)/marina(s)/dealer(s)/WEB site(s) where
to buy new or used propeller (better close to Toronto, but I believe
propeller can be shipped as well)?

I am looking to replace my old 2-bladed folding propeller for C&C 99 2005.

My Engine: Yanmar 3YM20 3-cylinder Diesel

Gear box / transmission: SD20 - YM1 sail-drive

We use yacht for racing and for cruising. Is 2-bladed folding the best
choice?

Is it good time to buy at Toronto boat show or prices for propellers are the
same?

I am still new in sailing world and I would really appreciate your help.

Thanks in advance,

Re: Stus-List New lines and hayalards

2018-01-12 Thread Gary Nylander via CnC-List
I have the same boat - with spinnaker gear. I put three line locks on each
side of the companionway (over where the panel is on the inside) to handle
the lines I ran back.

I left the outhaul on the boom and the Cunningham on the mast.

On the port side, I have (outside in) the spinnaker halyard, two genoa
halyards, and the Garhauer solid vang (fourth lock). The Spin halyard is
11mm VPC in solid green with a little red fleck.

The two genoa halyards are both white, one has red and blue flecks and other
green. Both should be 10mm VPC, but one is old and probably Sta-Set X. The
vang is all white (non high tech something maybe 8mm)

On the starboard side (outside in) is black Sta-Set 3/8 for the pole
downhaul.

Next in is Blue 3/8 Sta-Set for pole lift.

Most inside is 3/8 T-900 (old stuff) for the main halyard. Rather stiff, but
still works. It is white with a fleck (can't remember it is off the boat
right now under snow?)

I would think about putting the most used Genoa halyard on the starboard
side because one person could be handling the genoa while someone else could
be on the spinnaker - lots of elbows in a small area.

I stand corrected.
I have a 2150 installed on Imzadi that I bought several years ago. I knew they
also had a model that was designed to connect to an external AIS, and presumed
it was the 2100. Looks like the 2100 is really an earlier version of the 2150,
or the current model 2200.

Re: Stus-List Nexus Race > Nexus Instruments ?

2018-01-12 Thread Matthew L. Wolford via CnC-List
Good luck. I think he’s the only one with old inventory. He bought up a bunch
of stuff when Garmin took over.

I recently paid $600 (ouch) for an NX2 Multicontrol when I learned from Garmin
that it’s replacement unit cannot be used to program other older instruments
(like my two large displays). I figured that one gouge-priced Multi is better
than replacing all my instruments if my Multi fails.

Thanks Matt. Will give him a call, though am not holding my breath on the old
Nexus instruments.

Not to hijack Pete’s post, but does anyone know of a source for old Nexus
instruments? Either Nexus Classic or NX2?

Both of my old Multi Classic displays are getting hard to read due to crazing
in the plexi [they both have suffered through contact with errant winch
handles] trapped moisture, and the buttons tend to stick when pressed.

Thanks,

Brian

Re: Stus-List Nexus Race > Nexus Instruments ?

2018-01-12 Thread Nauset Beach via CnC-List
Thanks Dennis. I was hoping I could plug and play a new [old] Multi into my
system but it is looking like that is not feasible. I may need to drag my boat
out of the 1990’s "0183” electronics world… at least partially with some new
displays and the GND 10. Staying with the 43 mm transducers would save
drilling larger holes in the hull… Will have to spend some time reading /
researching.

Has anyone installed / used the new Garmin instruments – particularly the GNX
20 Marine instrument? It appears this system does not require a “server”
like the old system did, so would guess GPS data is input directly.

Thanks,

Brian

Last one I got I bought off eBay. There are no commercial sources for the
Nexus Classic multicontrols.

The 43 mm transducers are readily available.

Garmin sells some upgrades (GNX 20) but you need to really check compatibility.

By the time you buy a couple of new displays, you've spent as much as a new
system.

https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/598224#box

The above doesn't include a server and may not be backwards compatible.

Might as well just go all new: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/602308

Be advised the new comes with 52 mm transducers. The classic system uses 43 mm
transducers.

Fair enough.

Anyone know of applications/tools that calculate Target Boat Speed/Angle from
polars and broadcasts values over N2K? And low cost?

Nope. I have Nexus Classic instruments with a NMEA 0183 multiplexer with USB
port. Not sure I have a PC with an old enough version of Windows.

Thinking there are other programs out there that have same or better
functionality.
