Bob alludes to a critical but often overlooked issue. Wiring that is too
small to carry the amperage of a user, in this case, a bilge pump, can
result in excessive voltage drop. Low voltage could contribute to
premature failure.

I second the Ultra Safety Systems bilge pump. I don't have one on Touche'

knowledge, they are all still working.

Stus-List Holy Crap

2018-07-24 Thread Barbara L. Hickson via CnC-List
Question:  with about this long a boat at 62’ listed, with a shallow draft as
this one apparently is, would you expect it to sail well to weather?  In my
limited opinion, I thought the deeper the keel, a fin keel, the better it would
go. Am I wrong on this?  I sailed and lived aboard a Bowman 47 that had an 8’
sweptaway fin keel that sailed like a dream so maybe I’m fixated on that. It
seems like lots of larger boats have shallow drafts to allow them access to
shallow water but wouldn’t they be unlikely to sail closer to the wind?  My C
33 has a 5’6” draft. She sails great to weather, 15-20 degrees off wind
regularly. What do y’all think?

Why in the world would they say, "In nice condition"?

Herrington Harbor is a massive marina.  Compared to some of the derelict
boats abandoned there, it is in at least fair condition.  What a shame!

I’ll add a little bit to this discussion...up until this year I was replacing
RULE Super Switches every year—sometimes they didn’t even last a year. I never
had a problem with my RULE 1500 bilge pump, just the float switches. I
recently changed over to a float switch made by ULTRA systems and I love it.
It hasn’t been a year yet but it is manufactured so much better than the RULE
float switches that I’m sure it will last several years at least.

I’ve also replaced my bilge pump wiring and went up one size from the minimum
needed to do the job. All connections are done with heat shrink connectors too.

Stus-List Performance Tees

2018-07-24 Thread Colin A. Flock via CnC-List
With the all of the threads on the great shirts from Maritime Tees I did
not see any comments on the Performance Tees he offers. We have a new (to
us) C 29-2 and there was only a C 29 on the site so he made up new ones
for us very quickly.

Received them today, one long sleeve and one short but both performance,
they are a 65/35 poly/cotton blend so soft and fit well. I am 6 foot and
average build, the large is perfect. My wife got the long sleeve in small,
she is normally a medium in women's petite and 5'3".

Have not washed them yet but suspect with the blend they will not shrink.

Great service will likely order again.

Charles,

The per-person charge is all based on an appetizer package at the restaurant on
Saturday night — so if they want to do the dinner thing, they would be added.

Let me know. . . .

Two boats now — we’re on life support, but it may work out.

Re: Stus-List Holy Crap...

2018-07-24 Thread Chuck Gilchrest via CnC-List
Let's start with,"where the heck is the mast and the engine?" And move on
to winches, sails, and pretty much anything of value.

When I bought my first C in Rhode Island, it was in a modest boat yard
right next to Young America, the 1995 America's Cup defender (unsuccessful).
This was the boat with the Roy Lichtenstein mermaid painting on the hull.
Being an impressionable sailor and a huge America's Cup fanatic, I was blown
away to see every bit of deck hardware and parts that weren't a molded part
of the hull or deck, completely stripped off the boat. What a tragedy, I
thought! Why doesn't somebody preserve this boat as a piece of history? As
it turns out, the boat was worth more as an art work than as a boat and it
is currently sitting in an outdoor art museum up in the Catskill Mountains
in NY, no keel, not a lick of boat stuff attached.

For someone growing up thinking the America's Cup was the coolest
competition on the planet, seeing a boat in that condition was as if
somebody was to take James Bond's Aston Martin DB5 and rip out the engine
and paint it dayglo orange.

At the same time, some boats with serious pedigrees of success have
survived, witness Intrepid, Courageous, Dorade, Gypsy Moth IV and others. I
wonder what ever happened to Evergreen and Red Jacket?

I'll say. Can't neglect these boats.

Why in the world would they say, "In nice condition"?

Stus-List Structural Glass Work

2018-07-24 Thread Len Mitchell via CnC-List
If you are having issues finding a copy, I use AbeBooks.com, they are a used
book site and you can find out of circulation books by searching the name or
author. You will be able to have a copy mailed to you for around 10 USD. Just
pick the one in the best condition or maybe if you are lucky the seller is in
your city.

Hi,

I read many, and teh Gougeon brothers manuals. By far I would recommend " The
fiberglass boat repair manual " by Allan H Vaitses , excellent knowledge with
real life experience and very objective in the subjects covered. He built
boats, fixed other's mistakes and is a pleasure to read from page one to the
end. Look at the cover and you can see the extend of knowledge described in
this book.

OK this is weird: I tried to order the Fiberglass manual book and Amazon wont
deliver it to my address! Does it have something to do with it being published
in Canada? Does anyone understand this? Any suggestions on how to get it
delivered?

Hi,
I read many, and teh Gougeon brothers manuals. By far I would recommend " The
fiberglass boat repair manual " by Allan H Vaitses , excellent knowledge with
real life experience and very objective in the subjects covered. He built
boats, fixed other's mistakes and is a pleasure to read from page one to the
end. Look at the cover and you can see the extend of knowledge described in
this book.

No, my copy is not for sale!

Stus-List Vinyl Stripe

2018-07-24 Thread Francois Rivard via CnC-List
Hi Tom,

Holland Marine (http://www.hollandmarine.com/) in Toronto has the original
C stars and diamond pattern to add the finished factory look to your
stripe.

I used those on my boat when I re-did the strip 4 years ago, I used a
Bayliner blue stripe (From https://greatlakesskipper.com ) that had the
correct spacing built into the backing. It came out looking very
professional.

Good Luck with the project.

Yes the Photo Album site is down.  I was away for the weekend without internet and found out when we got home.

I have contacted my hosting company and am waiting for their reply.  Do not try to email me s...@cncphotoalbum.com -- it does not work either.

Will keep everyone posted.
