Stus-List water tanks interconnected, or not?

2021-03-21 Thread Peter McMinn via CnC-List
I have a 30gal water tank under both settees. The valves for each are set to
open flow. However, the pump seems to draw only from the starboard side. I’d
assumed that with both valves open, the tanks would equalize, but the stbd tank
empties and the pump goes dry, while the port tank remains full. Can someone
venture to what’s going on? I’ve read [this 2015
discussion](https://cnc-list.com/empathy/thread/2KB2NSDGELMQQJSRMPPWPHVMCWQJ2ICR?hash=SLQZNGDWP5TUBYWW6HFGKHJT5DVCWB5F#SLQZNGDWP5TUBYWW6HFGKHJT5DVCWB5F),
but the OP then was interested in disconnecting the two tanks. I’ll do some
exploring tomorrow to see what might be preventing the tanks from equalizing.
Ideas are welcome.

2021-03-21 Thread Shawn Wright via CnC-List
You're right; the numbers for our boats suggest that (although a larger
boat should ride better, the 40 isn't that much larger), so it's probably
just my lack of experience in keeping her balanced, and maybe the bagged
out sails at times. It's hard to tell from a video I guess. We generally
see pretty short steep waves around here, which can really stop the boat,
and sometimes make tacking a challenge. We tend to reef later than we
should since it's all at the mast, and my wife is less confident helming
the boat when the wind picks up. The boat in the video looks like it has
one reef in the main, and is nicely balanced. I will see about improving
our reefing setup while we're in maintenance mode over the next month.

Based on comparison data from the sailing calculator I would say the 35
MKII would perform as good or better than the C&C 40 in such conditions
considering motion comfort factor, capsize ratio, speed and tracking.
Tracking is a function of balance and I can certainly say that the 35 MKII
tracks remarkably well upwind and rides the waves very well too. Does

Stus-List Re: Now stink boaters anonymous

2021-03-21 Thread T Sutton via CnC-List
Since this seems to be 'true confessions' week, I must confess that I sold
my C&C (33 Mk II) last summer and replaced it with a Saga 35. A major
reason I could rationalize such a move is that Sagas were built by the same
craftsmen that built C&C's in the late 90's early 2000's after all remnants
of C&C were gone. Although not a Rob Ball design it is another reputable
Rob, Perry in this case who designed them and while not as racy as a C&C it
is a little more comfortable and better at motoring so hopefully I won't be
tempted by a trawler when I get even older. For fun I also have a CL-14,
Walker Bay 10 with a sail kit and numerous windsurfers including a teak
boomed original .

Cheers,

Tom S

I too sail a Force5 and has been parked way too long.

Just think about all the rendezvous that you could not show up to.
