Mine (Whale pump) has a 3 way valve, and was used 99.99% of the time for bilge.

I have been considering using my rarely used shower pan drain pump/plumbing for

That would depend on where the Y connection is located — If it is after the
vented loop, then you should be all right. Otherwise whatever gets pumped out
of one pump will likely flow back through the other one.

If you are going to put the Y closer to the pumps, you should install check
valves so flow only goes one way. However, check the specifications on your
pumps as some do not recommend using a check valve.

Do I need an entirely new outflow and thru-hull or can I join it with a ‘Y’

2021-06-03 Thread Dennis C. via CnC-List
A dedicated discharge would be best but not necessary. Joining the two
pump discharges would be okay.

However, if your existing pump is a centrifugal (non-positive displacement
like an impeller or diaphragm) pump, you'll need a check valve to prevent
the water from flowing through the old pump. I recommend a Bosworth
flapper style check valve.
