Stus-List Re: Bilge pump outflow
Mine (Whale pump) has a 3 way valve, and was used 99.99% of the time for bilge. My question is, if I wanted to install a second one (automatic one), slightly higher in same area, Do I need an entirely new outflow and thru-hull or can I join it with a ‘Y’ connector to the same pipe as the first bilge pump… so they would each use same pipe/thru-hull? A dedicated discharge would be best but not necessary. Joining the two pump discharges would be okay. However, if your existing pump is a centrifugal (non-positive displacement like an impeller or diaphragm) pump, you'll need a check valve to prevent the water from flowing through the old pump. I recommend a Bosworth flapper style check valve. https://www.thebosworthco.com/products/selectv.php?category=C -- Dennis C.
