Rob Ball is on the list serv! Cue the Wayne's World clip... we're not worthy!
 we're not worthy!

Seriously, welcome. Can't help with the file 'tho. I'd thought about doing
it, but couldn't figure out the benefit other than the intellectual exercise in
doing it (which is fine as a reason, don't get me wrong).

Couldn't you go old school, import the lines drawing and use the software to
fair it out?

Rob,

Please excuse my ignorance, but are you any relationship to the Rob Ball who
designed many of the C&C designs?

Was that one of your designs?

I had one, but now have a 42 Custom. Similar shape below the water line. They
both sail more competitively off the wind.

I have A DXF of mine, I can send you. You could scale it down, but not sure
how much of it you could use. But I added all the rigging, sails, etc.

A Friend of mine who taught 3D Modeling and Printing created the hull from
my line drawings. Think he used Pro Engineer, Wildfire.

Another Possibility is Andy Burton, he does half hulls and probably already
has that in his library.

Re: Stus-List 3D File

2018-09-05 Thread William Hall via CnC-List
Rob,

There are easier and faster ways to do this - but if you come up dry and
want to try to make a 3D model of YOUR boat, and you were able to take
pictures from numerous angles (while out of the water, perhaps - a drone
might be a good way to do this) I'd be happy to run it through a
photogrammetry stack for you. The best results come from photos taken in
overcast conditions to minimize specular reflections, and even then aren't
perfect. But it's still pretty amazing stuff. I think I'll have to try it
with my boat this winter. Probably need about 100 pictures to get good
coverage.
