Joel is having a pretty good year. On May 23, he and crew sailed the Annapolis
to St. Michaels race. He was one of less than half of the fleet (of 115 or so)
which finished!

Joel Aronson and the crew of The Office are about three miles from the finish
in Newport. At this point, at least eleven of the seventy-one boats that
started have retired, for reasons from electrical and steering problems, to
torn sails from a squall that nailed the second starters, to a reason listed
only as, “Motoring to the Hamptons.”

  Congrats to Joel and company!

We just passed Joel on the way in (red spin 4221). Challenging weather and

John,

Next week I should be able to send the kit back. We replaced all of the
expired OTC stuff with fresh stuff, so it should be good for a couple
years. Thanks so much for contributing to the cause!

Thanks Dennis. Impromptu does like light air and we worked hard to keep
the boat moving consistently. Fortunately it also does pretty well in
heavy air. The return home had much heavier weather and we were able to
keep the boat moving upwind in over 30 knots through a rough Gulfstream
passage with a storm trysail and heavily reefed jib. Back at the dock at
6:20 this morning and happy to be home! Hope that you guys also had a good
 ride home.

Steve’s keel/centerboard arrangement was perfect for this light air race; he
was able to smoke almost everyone through the Chesapeake, and he even caught up
with many of the Class 1 and 2 boats. Kinda depressing that it took us almost
three days to get out of the Bay…

Also, we were one of several boats (mostly Class 1) that paid for and attending
a weather briefing by Jennifer Clark. The Office was the only boat in the
briefing that following the weather routing. We actually did make up some time
once we were out of the Chesapeake, but by then, it was a bit late.
