I have some Stugeron now and plan on picking up a new supply in Bermuda this
year. So far, I've carried it and not needed it.
As a career aviator, I wasn't prone to airsicknessthank goodness.

I used Stugeron for a delivery trip from Bermuda to Newport. Took it a couple
of days ahead of the trip. One day out we ran into nasty sea conditions.
Stugeron was not working for me. Fortunately the skipper had Scopolomene
patches. Worked like a charm.

2016-05-05 Thread Steve Thomas via CnC-List
You have used scopolamine before, so for you it is not an issue, but first time
users are well advised to try it out ahead of time if possible. Some people
find it makes them really dopey. I like to keep some patches on board though,
for those people who insist that they won't get seasick.

The reason why you might want to take Dramamine or Gravol for a day or two in
advance is that the active ingredient is a hypnotic (makes you sleepy) but
tolerance to the drug's hypnotic effects builds up quickly. So after a few days
of consistent administration at the recommended dose, it will not make you
sleepy any more. Works for me, but I usually only start the day before, and
apply coffee sparingly if necessary.

Mike,
Dramamine (or Bonine) is Meclazine, an oral antihistamine and only needs to
be taken 1-2 hours before boating.

Be aware that it interacts VERY poorly with alcohol, so if you or your crew

good option. My wife suffers greatly from motion sickness and we've been

Mike — being north of the border, have you tried Stugeron (Cinnarizine)?
Although I’m normally not prone to seasickness, the few times I’ve needed
something (the first day or so of an open-ocean passage), I’ve had much better
luck with that than with Scop.

My experience has been to take it about 1-2 hours before heading out. Also,
as long as I'm driving the boat I'm fine...it's when I'm not and I go down
below that things get strange.. Focus on the horizon and maintain a good
breathing pace always helps me too. Although lately I haven't been seasick
at all.. A friend has been using a Dramamine patch and said it works even
better. Not sure if that's a prescription or not.
