Joel is having a pretty good year. On May 23, he and crew sailed the Annapolis to St. Michaels race. He was one of less than half of the fleet (of 115 or so) which finished! We hit hampton virginia early this am. Blew out the#2 and the baby stay on the way home. After a day we had to return to Bermuda to drop off a sick crew member. Thanks Dennis. Impromptu does like light air and we worked hard to keep the boat moving consistently. Fortunately it also does pretty well in heavy air. The return home had much heavier weather and we were able to keep the boat moving upwind in over 30 knots through a rough Gulfstream passage with a storm trysail and heavily reefed jib. Steve’s keel/centerboard arrangement was perfect for this light air race; he was able to smoke almost everyone through the Chesapeake, and he even caught up with many of the Class 1 and 2 boats.
