Thanks. Kracor is now owned by Yamaha and will only now sell to boat
manufacturers and as a result Lewis is no longer a reseller. Tartan has the
tooling, trying to track them down.

When I tried to order from Kracor in 2007, they told me to go through Lewis
Marine Supply in Fort Lauderdale, FL.(800) 327-3792 or (954) 523-4371. I spoke
with Jennifer. Her direct line is (was) (954) 767-1245. Shipping cost will be
lower if you have the tank drop shipped to you.

I just completed a total head plumbing refit on our new boat, and wanted to
concur with Adrian's comments. I ended up adding a new holding tank as well
(long story) and fortunately I was able to figure out the model of the OEM
Kracor tank. Ronco then used that info and came up with a nearly exact
match. So if you can draft a good dimensional drawing, they will likely
find a stock mold that will fit. For us it ended up being an 18 gallon
tank. I ordered a blank tank and the total cost including shipping to NH
was about $340. BTW, I also used Peggy's book as a guide, and used
Uniseals for the fittings installed on top of tank. easy peasy. Good luck!

I used ot have a plastic welding business in Annapolis and I used to be a
distributor for Kracor. I can tell you that they make excellent tanks and I
think you will find that they are thicker plastic than Ronco tanks. I’m sure
that Kracor can provide names of distributors in your area.

original configuration of the 24-gallon plastictank. I visited a sister ship
last weekend and after taking all thedimensions, I found the tank on the Kracor
website. Kracor no longer sellsto the public. Through some marine industry
connections, I did find out thatTartan does have the toolings for that tank but
said that be prepared to paya lot for it. As in over $500. Does anyone else
know of a source for eithera custom tank or something similar to the original?

Stus-List Holding tanks

2020-01-28 Thread John and Maryann Read via CnC-List
Hi John

Perhaps a dumb question, but Kracor must be selling tanks to stay in
business and if they only work through distributors or OEM's there must be
some who will deal with the public Will Kracor provide a list of
distributors?? Maybe try some boat OEM's??

Best of luck

Thanks Sean. My research had brought me to Ronco for the same 18 gallon

BTW, I also used Peggy's book as a guide, and used
Uniseals for the fittings installed on top of tank. easy peasy. Good luck!

with you to find one that fits your need. Make a dimensioned drawing for
them. The tank is roto-molded when you order, so you can specify the
fittings you want. The original tank under the v-berth on our C had
the outlet at the bottom of the vee where it had cracked and leaked. We
specified a "dip-tube" outlet, so all the fittings (inlet, vent, inspection
port, and outlet) are on or near the top. The tank we chose is a very close
match to the original and fits the space well. They will also create custom
tooling, but IIRC, the price estimate started at $2,000+

I still marvel that Rod knew the dimensions, manufacturer and model number of
the original holding tank on the C 33 mark 1. Thanks again Rod.
As this tank is no longer available and to manufacture a custom replacement
would be pretty expensive I’m now considering an AirHead composting toilet. All
reports are positive. My two concerns are, where to exit the vent hose and how
to power that vent without shore power. Have any of our listers made the
switch? Is so, how did you solve the venting problem?
Thanks again for your input.

the Trident was one of the two top ones. I think the other was a bit more

On what hose to use for this install, Peggy Hall seems to be a recognised

Peggy recommends Trident 101 or 201:

I didn't say it was guaranteed for 10-20 years...it's not.

Trident 101 Trident Marine: Sanitation Hose is warrantied against odor
permeation for 5 years. However, it's been on the market for nearly 20 years
without a single reported odor permeation failure at any age. But that doesn't
mean you can expect it to last 20 years. After about 10 years, all
hoses--water, exhaust, fuel, bilge, sanitation-- become hard and brittle, prone
to cracking and so should be replaced.

As a follow-up, I recall that Ronco put one of the fittings in the wrong
location on my tank. I called them about it, and because of the shipping
cost issue, they sent a replacement tank rather than have me return it for
adjustment. I'll have to look, but I believe I still have the tank
(unused)if it will work for the 33.

Don't know about the 33, but my 1978 34 (similar boat) had the holding tank

replacement at Ronco that fit perfectly. Shipping costs are high,

Dave,

On my 33-2 the pump out and vent hoses are routed to the port side deck and
sheer line respectively via the head compartment, and the tank itself is
located under the v-berth.

a plastics fabricator here (near Toronto) will make a custom tank for C$500
ish. Perhaps you have similar locally.

I will be improving my tank ventilation by increasing the hose/vent sizes and
adding a second vent on the starboard side. There have been discussions on
this list about how best to circulate oxygen into the tank. Something to
think about.

Also, make sure you use the best quality rubber sanitation hose, not the white
pvc stuff, which I can assure you is gas permeable.

Dave,

On my 33-2 the pump out and vent hoses are routed to the port side deck and
sheer line respectively via the head compartment, and the tank itself is
located under the v-berth.

Don't know about the 33, but my 1978 34 (similar boat) had the holding tank
under the forward berths. Although the tank was unique in shape, I found a
replacement at Ronco that fit perfectly. Shipping costs are high,
unfortunately.

SLY has been using a Type 1 Sanitation System but these are no longer legal
in Puget Sound so we need to install a holding tank. Yuck! I looked in our
original C manual and found a 15.5 gallon holding tank listed. Not sure if
these were standard issue or an option but SLY did not come to us with a
holding tank. So my questions are:

1. Where were the holding tanks installed?
2. What were there configuration? Dimensions?
3. Are these units or similar units available and from whom?

Dave, Not sure on tank size or where it is installed, but MARINE Sanitation
next door to fisheries is a great placed to source the tank from. Is there an
old deck fill for the head? That would give you an idea of where the tank might
have been.  Having just replumbed my fwd head. I would put the tank as close as
possible.

SLY has been using a Type 1 Sanitation System but these are no longer legal in
Puget Sound so we need to install a holding tank.

Holland marine has nice holding tanks shaped to match the hull. I think they
give you a good deal of options on where to place the tank. They'll place
fittings for you so you can place the tank horizontally or vertically.

![endif]--![endif]--Hi, I like to enlarge my holding tank of my 1985 CC
Mk3. I have a second water tank I donrsquo;t really need. We sail in Georgian
bay and the North Channel and it would be great to have more
Holding tank capacity.

Any thoughts.

Cheers
